Great, reliable little ATV, like all Yamahas. They were made from 1999 to 2004. They're actually the first Yamaha ATV made in the USA, in the Georgia plant. The tenth digit of the VIN indicates the year. The first year, 1999, would be X. 2000 is Y. 2001 is 1. 2002 is 2, 2003 is 3, 2004 is 4.
Get some PVC blaster sprayed on those rusty bolts check the brake pads check the oil check the carburetor you can use a heat gun on the plastic that’s faded

looks kinda like the Timberwolf 250 I had. Loved that 4wheeler, wished i had another one.
That bike look's a lot like the 2004 Kawasaki buyou 250, that I had in the past !
I've owned two of these. I added a few performance parts to the first one. It was pretty spunky and would lift the front wheels about four inches off the ground when snatching second gear.
I have a 2002 which I daily, how exactly did u pop? I've never been able to
@@jpg9797 Hey, it would lift the front wheels at full throttle hitting second gear. Nothing crazy but it was fun. I added a full DG exhaust, K&N air filter and jetted the carb up by 3 or 4 sizes over stock. Ran great and make a noticeable difference in power. Use a high quality spark plug as well to get a complete burn from all the extra fuel. The upgrades only costed around $250-$300 and was well worth it.

I’m not really a big Yamaha fan but I took a 4wheeler just like that in on a trade cause I never would have bought it but it proved to be a damn good 4wheeler.
There is a river I have to cross a few times to get to the store and that thing would run completely under water for 3 or 4 minutes before it started spuddering and missing and it didn’t have no kind of snorkel what so ever so suggested when you get it running find some water and try it yourself
Yup they are claimed or labeled 250s and the Yamaha Timberwolf the same engine, even some of the wolves are 4x4 with that engine. The reverse shifters on the Timberwolf was rather flimsy as well as rear axle tubing/wall thickness, and swingarm prone to breakage. Other than that pretty bulletproof. Then again I was 15 25yrs ago when I had a new 93 and I was a bit rough on the bike as a teenager, lol.
Harvey I had one of those bikes, they seem to be rare and it was a fun and comfortable ride!
also, mine was a 99 and looked identical.

I was just at my local electronics surplus store and purchased some little 12 volt batteries ( Panasonic Lc-r121r3p ) for $2.00 each . They would make perfect DC jumpers for the boxes you make , and a couple 2.5x 6.75 x 5.25 plastic boxes for $1.95 ea. And a couple packs of multi-color banana clips with leads ( 10 each pack ) for $3.95 and double A battery holders for $1.50 each . Let me know if you need something like this !

It’s a hoot going there ! They have anything and almost everything you could imagine! The name is axman surplus in Fridley Minnesota, it’s about 25 miles north of Minneapolis. They have capacitors , diodes, vacuum tubes , military surplus electronics, chemistry equipment dang you name it they probably have it ! By the way do you have a way to contact that Cushman graveyard? I need some body parts for mine .

They where produced in various versions. But yours look like it's the most common one, wich is not automatic but a Semi-automatic :-)
And are you positive that the front wheels have drum brakes? Usually it's two disc brakes in front and a drum-brake in the back on the right side.
Thinking about the size of the engine, it's a very powerfull ATV!
And a little advise from me, would be to check the seal on the shaft going out to the pull-starter that there is engine oil behind the next cover. And you don't want it to be bad and then have to clean the whole pull-start arrengement up! :-D
I also want to give you a very big 'thank you!' for all of your helpfull videos! Your way of eksplaining what you do, and how everything works is just great!
I startet up working on engines 3 years ago, and your videos gave me an awesome start! I went from knowing basicly nothing about it, to everyone I know is now coming to me everytime they have everything from a 2-stroke 50cc scooter to a car or a boat, and everything in between, that is causing trouble!

Hey Wicked Offroad!!! Check the rear end oil for water and to make sure it is full or is there something else I should look for.... Most Honda shaft drive rear ends are pretty bullet proof.... Thanks in advance for the info, watching, and commenting!!!
