Not really, Wesker engineered multiple B.O.W's including Uroboros, which requires much more smarts than Afton's engineering expertise, and Afton didn't really make a breakthrough to find remnant, if I'm correct he only stumbled upon remnant after finding out the animatronics got possessed, but don't quote me on that
