      u know what happend to the union
      ? he programmed ski simulators for geman rtl (buy that shit) and created the "NEED FOR SPEED" franchiose, yes the union made need for speed... but without mad max songs... he knew better.

    Discovered this late but thanks for uploading. I was SO into the Atari ST's demo scene and it's good to see the old demos again. Was even in a crew or two myself (nothing notable though :)

    Nice quality recordings! Great work! Though the sound is incorrect on the loading-screen text, not all emulators do that correctly.

    I have to admit this demo is très good. I come from Amiga world and I must admit in 1989 nothing on Amiga beats it, even Kefrens Megademo 7 or Red Sector megademo don't reach it (no inconvex vector for instance). At that time, the only very very good one (both technicaly and artistically) on Amiga which could compet is 'Wild Copper Megalo Demos' from 1988.
    Stunning Atari demo for sure. Btw, in this demo what is the screen with the famous first overscan feature ?

    I believe that this one was one of the first ST-demos I watched... had experienced C64 and Amiga demos before that...
    But I got this demo on disk from a friend after I got an 1040 STF from my father... :)

    47:47 I remember the Atari ST had animatable colours. Inspried, I tried to make some images like this. IMHO they weren't bad, but I've since lost them. Probably on some diskette somewhere in a house I once lived...

    What happened to the prototype soundtracker featured in the hidden screen ?
    I remember it fro, back in the days, and I always wished to have it, did it ever exist ?
    The quality of the mixing routines of this tracker was already excellent, with lound sounds, etc.. other tracked music from this area sounded quite noisy in comparison.

    • @davidwalker1652
      @davidwalker1652 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was released as "The TCB Tracker". There was a demo on ST Format coverdisk (issue #16). Was the first sample-based soundtracker app I ever used!

    Amiga rulez! ;)

    • @ZCT808
      @ZCT808 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I think this demo is a great example of why it didn't 'rulez'! Considering the horrific hardware limitations of the ST it is quite amazing how the members of The Union were able to overcome these issues. If you compare several of the demo screens in here to say a Red Sector demo from the exact same year, it is amazing how lazy Red Sector appears by comparison. The only area where they win out is fantastic four channel digital music; a luxury of the superior sound chip. But it wasn't long after The Union Demo was released that they figured out how to trick the ST sound chip into reproducing the same kind of four channel digital sound anyway, and even ported over some of the music from groups like Red Sector.

      @@ZCT808 +1. But i think the comment was just a joke ;-) But I'm totally agree with you about the efforts made by the ST programmers to create the same quality without co-processors.
