Every time I was watching Luke Plapp at the back of the peloton, all I wanted to hear was Chris calling him the first "KNUCKLEHEAD" of the year
😂👊
Was Plapp at the back because he has a broken wrist and was avoiding any argey-bargey and hoping not to crash?
Plapp either rides off the back, or charges through and takes the lead. Positioning and tactics don't seem to be his strong suit.
Happy to have you back for the season!
Don't get why Ineos didn't keep Narvaez. Another gift for UAE.
🤔 hardly a gift, I’m pretty sure UAE are paying handsomely for his services 🤣
@@rhodriwilliams2891I’m not so sure UAE are really over paying riders like you might think. They are paying fair market value for a lot of good riders and below market value for the GOAT. Narvaez is an excellent rider. I would argue UAE could’ve either payed Him or Hirschi. Who would you rather have? It’s tough to say because Hirschi wants bigger chances. Narvaez will probably not have another GC tour like TDU. On his schedule. He’s going to be an excellent rider in the Tour and maybe Vuelta. That first week of the Tour he could definitely win a stage if given freedom (my personal opinion is that hell no he shouldn’t be given freedom when you have Pog on the team lol) but UAE is never bringing Hirschi to work for Pog.
Ineos must have budget issue. 🤷🏼♂️🤔
they had over paid Tom and had to recover.
Because he was inconsistent and failed to deliver the results Ineos expected from a rider with such a high salary, every year he shone brightly for a day or two and then disappeared for the rest of the season. We’ll see if UAE will find an approach that works for him.
Good job Chris and Garrett
👊👊
Great analysis!
1st knucklehead cyclist of the year : Chris Harper
1st knucklehead team of the year : Jayco
You should keep track during the year.
Does Jayco get full UCI Knucklehead points for the Tour Down Under or are they reserved for the real start of the season in Europe?
These knucklehead points are upside down...
@valiantabello : We'll try, but I'll lean on Chris' knucklehead-ism expertises to keep track on those athletes 😂
Oh damn. I should have said that in the video. At least it’s not the B🦋E officially. So I still have time to say it. 😂👊👊👊
Best thing about the TDU was the fact that the coverage on Peacock was add free and featured Phil Ligget in perhaps one of his last roles. Personally I only dialed in for the last 10k which is were 99% of the action was anyway....I had cancelled my Peacock sub after the tour last year but got sucked back in with their cheap one year deal so I guess I'll be catching coverage on it again....until BR comes on and then it's sound off.....
👊👊
I think Phil is going a bit the way of Murray Walker without the mistakes
Chris, great to have you back!
Good times! Here comes Chris Horner again this year to rain on cycling's parade of experienced teams and pros acting like knuckleheads. Please do one episode where you're actually sitting on the Chesterfield. I will be watching for your take on the spring classics, my favorite time of the season!
Excellent video Sir 👍
Knuckleheads arrrrrr back Chris!!!! Great year of analysis ahead . Looking forward to it!
Great to have you back making videos Chris! I missed your content this off season
Winter is way too long. ❄️👊👊🚴
I love January. All my sports-cycling, tennis, and motorsport-begin to switch on again. Agreed about Jayco Alula. Oi Oi Oi!
Welcome back!
👊👊
Nice Video. Thanks for the effort. Cheers.
👊👍👊👊👊👊👊
Harper and Schmidt going up the road tells me Jayco didn't have full confidence in Plapp. Made good TV though
Agree and another tactic / idea might have been to let Schmidt go at the top and Harper drift back to the peloton. Other teams would still have to chase and Harper could have saved some energy for the last climb. (Imho i.e., rear view is always better than reality). 😃
Yep. 👊📺
i like your calmer voice.
Great breakdown Chris. I was at the race and it wasn’t Jayco’s team plan to have Harper and Scmitt going solo. Not sure what Plapp was doing through the tour, he was always hanging around the back of the peloton and then kept working his way through on the climbs only to drop back again. Seemed like a lot of wasted effort. He also chased down Romo when he broke on the final climb, he had nothing to gain and should have left that to UAE to close. Was a great event, please come down next year. Would be great to have the butterfly effect live commentary!!
When I saw the thumbnail I immediately heard Chris's voice yelling in my ear "Knuckleheads." Jayco will have worked hard preparing & had high expectations for their 'home' race, sadly they didn't get the results they were hoping for.
Nice to hear your 2025 analysis. Getting ready for the start of the European season.
👊👊
Thanks Chris
👊👊
Welcome back Chris!
Bam 👊👊
For the first time ever i PRETTY MUCH agree with your tactical analysis haha. the one thing i have a bit of an issue with is that plapp needed to drop johny on the climb itself, so pulling on the front was his only hope of beating him. if johny was in the group coming into the sprint, he was 100% going to win and plapp come third.
You’re back! Awesome 😎 Looking forward to a great 2025 season (from my chesterfield 😂)
🛋️👊👊
These guys travel to warm, sunny Australia, before returning to the south of Spain to continue their training? My heart breaks.
Great take
👊👊
Great video!
Would love a video of Chris discussing all the Pelaton teams for this season, particularly any interesting roster changes and what their ambitions might be.
👊👍
So DSM got a new name sponsor, and now they're Team Picnic Post NL. Picnic is apparently a supermarket chain, but it sounds really funny to have a bike team named, "Team Picnic."
😂👊
Chris, what do you think about Romo's attack? It looked knucklehead move to me because he could just followed Narvaez till 100ms to the line and try a sprint though we dont know if he can outsprint Navaez.
@10:55
You said it. And Romo also said it after stage 5 that he has no sprint (his words not mine;). So he was probably worried about Naraez taking time bonuses. Personally I would have liked that he waited longer also though. 🤔👊
Personally, I don't have Romo as one of the strongest climbers and certainly not one of the strongest punchers in the race. So his only chance is to get away early and hope that the chasers don't cooperate well. Bad luck that Plapp sacrificed his own result to pull back Romo.
What do you think about Romo attacking whete he did? Don't you think the flyer would have been better timed later?
If the Harper move had've worked, it would've been amazing, but it's not often you see Jayco nail the tactics. I watched the stage live and none of the commentary team from what I remember had the nous to see the problems with their tactics. Loved Romo's bravery with his attack
Romo has some fitness. Going to be interesting to see how he does in the big races. 💪👊
Haaaarper!!!!!😎😎
UAE sending a strong message this early 😅🚴🇵🇭
Narvaez is a great rider. Would like to see him get some more chances this season. Who wins in the Milan SanRemo sprint… Pog or Johnny?
Pogi. 💪👊
What you are really saying is TDU is a waste of time. You are probably right - they did pay their way in but no different to many fringe F1 host cities.
It seemed like Ineos was organizing the lead group on most stages, got swmped at the end and ended up with nothing. Doing it once is understandable, but doing it on multiple stages?
G is on vacation and so they have no climbers. It’s good to swarm the front before a left or right turn starts but after that ineos need the race to be slow and tactical. But no one told them that. 😂👊
This was a bummer for the kid from Movistar. That was sad the team director did not come up with a better plan or tell the kid to just mark Luke Plapp. Then he could have saved that energy for an attack with 400 meters to go or 300 meters, and he probably would have shattered everyone he was riding so strong!
I wondered the same thing. At least wait for the first real attack to happen. Certainly Jayco would have went early first and then he could attack. But at least it wasn’t exactly a knucklehead move after he was clear of the group so quickly, you know all eyes would be on Plapp or Narvaez doing most of the work and he would he just need a bit of hesitation from behind and he wins it. 🤔👍
@ChrisHornerCycling great points 👉. Dean Meyer once told me that you were the best in the world 🌎 at reading a race scenario in action. Keep it up, Chris!
Great another guy that beat Tadej (even if it was that one lucky day) is on the same team. Not to me tion Ayuso and Almeida.
As soon as I saw the leader go at the bottom of the climb I thought he's finished. Seen too many races to know that seldom works unless you're names Pog. Shame, could have won the race if he just used that form to mark them.
Why hasn't a team signed you as "directeur tactique" ? Would love to see that. 👍
Good question. 🤷🏼♂️👊
i dont see how anyone could have beat uae and johny in that race. jayco could have gotten on the podium for sure though. johny could have had more bonus seconds had he needed them.
I wonder if Plapp could have dropped everyone if he just done a steady effort. He did too much work in the group, but (at least fresh) he should have been strong enough to drop Narvaez.
Me too. What would a fresher Plapp have looked like if he was in the correct position to being with have done. Maybe follow Romo right away. We will never know cause Plapp loves the back of the peloton. 🤔😬👍
🙏🙏👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️♥️
👊👊❤️
compared to Valverde, Gerrans duels of the past, Willunga stage this year was booring. Jayco bottled it, they should have had 2 riders in front of Harper for final climb, he is best aussie climber, team did him no favours at all. Race lacked a big name Andre Greipel, Kittel for sprinters, is suffering post Richie Porte deflation!
This is what INEOS gets for giving away Jhonatan Narvaez! They get nothing! Shame on INEOS. But they don’t care. But we have Caleb Ewin 😂
man this guy talks A LOT & says little
must like the sound of his own voice...woof
Plapp / Jayco has some of the strangest and questionable tactics... To me Plapp a 1 day and maybe a 1 week rider at best...Hes definitely not a GT candidate...i don't see how Jayco believes he's a GT possibility. I also think he's over-rated.
I'm jonesin' for a race up in Sweden or Finland on pure hardpack snow, using studded ice tires.
🎉😂🎉
It's sometimes pretty cold for the Arctic Tour of Norway, and that's in August, IIRC.
😂❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️🚴
Plapp's riding was borderline amateurish. Jayco should have employed tactics to isolate Narvaez even after Romo went off the front. Dragging Narvaez to the finish was only going to end one way. They should have gambled on Narvaez having to pull it back, better that and Romo win, than them employing the tactics that facilitated Narvaez's win! both ways they lose, at least trying to isolate Narvaez they would have had a sniff!
Agreed. Narváez was the favorite started the stage. His job to do more. But Jayco really should have given Harper a realistic chance and played tactics on the last climb. 👊
Guess I’m third
Third is a podium. Good job. 👊👊👊👊
The TDU is just the very poor step cousin of the UCI European WorldTour races. While cycling is big in Australia it is lucky to get 10% of the funding or support that Europe puts into cycling.
Okay I'm first
Jonny 1st 🥇 🏆👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊
