The incredible Chaga Fire Plow (or "How to get warm without a fire")

  • Imagine to make fire simply by rubbing a piece of chaga and a piece of wood together! Chaga, this parasitic mushroom with it´s black, deeply cracked outer skin, has been used for thousands of years for fire making. Here I showcase how to use the fire plow method with chaga and wood, creating friction and resulting in an ember. Just before this video I tried the fire plow using wood against wood - the classic way - but failed. Chaga turned out to be much easier even though I consider it to be your last option for fire making. It´s a physically demanding task and will drain you on energy. But you get the heat up for sure, even before the fire is started!

Thank you mate 😊 first time trying this. Tried the wood-wood fire plow just before and failed. But this was easier, still some physical effort. Its like if you succeed you wont need the fire because you will be warm by then 😊🔥

This is awesome! Is that comfrey that you're using to wrap the chaga at the end? Thank you so much for sharing.

Or you could take one of your boot laces to make a bow drill set up using the chaga fungus as your base. Works great. Never thought of the plow method you demonstrated. Well done! Cheers from Montreal QC

Really interesting about urtzi, I knew he was found with chaga, didn't realise that he was using it to carry an ember. That looked like hard work mate😂. Got there in the end. I though you were going to throw the chaga into the firebox at one point, that would have been such a waste.
    Nice video.

Hi Stephen. Yes It's fun to play around with. But a bit hard to find. Its not very common. But I believe it might be the best option to get at fire going if you have no other option, at least in a boreal forest.
