    Of course Alessio is into the Statue of Liberty, the statue was a gift to the US from France after all! 🤪Knowledge of languages is the doorway to wisdom, comrades. To have another language is to possess another soul. Learning other languages is how we open up as people. It's how we grow as better people. Language is the road map of a culture. And by learning another language, you open the door to the world of that culture.

    It’s so hard trying to speak a foreign language for that length of time when you still haven’t grasped everything yet. I remember getting a headache and just feeling exhausted which is exactly how Jesse looked. Her Italian is very good. She’s doing very well in such a short amount of time.

    The Lego store you went to on Fifth Ave has been in that specific spot since June 2021! The Lego store I grew up going to in that area was in Rockefeller Center proper and opened in 2010. They moved from there to this spot because they wanted more space. Don't be shy to get your own Lego set, Alessio! Lego is for ALL ages, after all! There are even Lego sets of football stadiums!
    I love when I can understand certain Italian words without reading the subtitles because they’re similar in Spanish. Bathroom in Spanish for example is baño, and when is cuando! Although still different languages, it is nice when languages have things in common. Because it’s not only a bit easier, but also it makes one understand about the origins of languages and how they evolved overtime. I love learning multiple languages because to me, it makes me better appreciate the world surrounding us.

    Jessi - you did pretty well with speaking so much Italian during that day! My Italian husband would only speak Italian with me and still won't speak English with me after 25 years of knowing each other. LOL -- he always says that my now fluent Italian is way better than his English skills. Living in Italy and having to use Italian every day in every situation did help the spoken Italian skyrocket (I already had my B.A. in Italian/French). Y'all are so fun to watch. Thanks for making all these videos!! Very nostalgic.

    I'm learning Italian all on my own. Jessie you're lucky to live with a native speaker! For the first 2 years i was learning the language I never even encountered a single Italian! So I was proud to get a few compliments on my Italian when I visited Italy in October. Especially in the South it seems like the locals really get a kick out of an American speaking their language.

    • @allisonhunter1063
      @allisonhunter1063 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think people who live outside the USA just appreciate it when stereotypically Americans are loud, ignorant, and rude, and then they see an American TRYING to learn the language and understanding that not everybody speaks English. At my old job, I was the only employee who spoke VERY LITTLE Spanish (I can understand most of what I hear but it's hard for me to respond in Spanish), and we had a woman from Brazil who would come in maybe a few times a month, and of course she spoke Portuguese (which I don't speak AT ALL), but she and I got to talking and somehow through my broken Spanish and her perfect Portuguese (which I was surprised at how many words they have in common!) We always got the job done, and she always thanked me for trying. She only ever shopped with me bc I was the only employee who would take the time, look up translations and work with her not speaking English (which she spoke very little of). It was always fun to talk to her.

      I’m trying to relearn Italian, but it’s definitely easier I feel to pick it up when you’re there; and if you have someone who can translate in English to Italian or said language to Italian an vice versa.

    • @avonlave
      @avonlave ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@u140550 definitely is! At the end of each day in Italy, my brain was buzzing, could feel it reorganizing itself, starting to think in Italian.
      I recommend watching Italian TH-camrs if you can't be around native speakers in person. Allows you to learn the language in a more natural way, while not feeling like you're taking some academic course. I like Giovanni Fois for food content, Nicolò Balini and Stepsover for travel vlog. But key is to find someone covering topics you're already interested in.

    • @u140550
      @u140550 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@avonlave sure, but I feel it doesn’t beat a physical native speaker. It’s the same way when I speak a bit of Tagalog as I’m Asian, and i understand; but can barely speak it due to how things were back in the day around the 90’s. My parents speak Tagalog, and one of the many variations/dialects; but it still takes a while for me to register it.

      @@allisonhunter1063 as someone who lives overseas, I can tell you is quite wonderful when you hear someone trying to speak the language, even when they struggle. I've encountered many Americans who get upset if you don't speak English in a Spanish speaking country. But fortunately not everyone is like that. Congratulations on your portunhol lol. I speak both languages and yes, we share around 89% of the words. Felicidades! Parabéns!
