Social housing run by forhousing is as bad in ellesmere port..homes full of mould and damp..roads full of pot holes hedges and grass all over grown..and the biggest joke is they want you to pay to park for these lovely shops
That’s so sad!! You can see the wealth and prosperity and pride there once was there in the beautiful old buildings sand the size and capacity of that now empty shopping mall. Middlebrook retail park in Bolton has had a similar effect on Bolton town centre. Maybe not to the same degree yet but it’s coming .
A bunch of visionaries, perhaps/maybe Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Councillors, decided to give planning permission to McArthurGlen to open Cheshire Oaks nearby. It's the largest in the UK, it opened in 1995, it's devastated Ellesmere Port, especially the Port Arcades, and affected Chester badly too.
All that money spent that dribbled down to Ellesmere Port when Liverpool was capital of culture has all been wasted. Cheshire Oaks was probably the main reason for the shopping parade to end up like this. Parking charges push people away, even if it is only 50p. I grew up in the Port and remember it being a busy little town. McDonalds and KFC in the centre next to Our Lady's Catholic Church. I used to play snooker at the On Cue club round the back of where McDonalds was, but i dont know what became of it. Such a shame seeing it like this now.
So sad to see what's happening in ellesmere port town centre, Cheshire oaks is what destroyed the town centre, but hopefully one day, with a lot of investment maybe things may change for the better
I've living in the port all my life and it's so sad to see it so shit and run down. No pride anymore..

Cheshire Oaks destroyed the town centre.
in the 1980s I used to deliver eggs around there, footpaths were spilling on to the roads, Great Days,
Id be too embarresed keeping my business going in that dump of a shopping centre..or going on a shopping trip
