Even though DJ is in his 6th year, I feel like it is really year 3/4. What I mean by that is he had to unlearn all that Judge/Garrett stuff and come again. So now with 3 years into this regime, even though he missed most of 2023, you are seeing growth you like. I hasten to add, this could not be happening without quality OL play. For the first time you can see the confidence that brings to DJ along with the ability to not only have more options, but also to see them. I'm not going to jump out and say DJ is or going to be elite, but if this consistency continues we may have a QB that you can count on and also helps you win. I'm here for it as it would put this franchise on really solid ground.
I have been watching you guys since 2022....I have never heard you guys this excited about this offense, they are showing a lot of good signs...hoping this sustains, I do expect some surprise wins
i think daniel’s confidence is building, he finally has time to throw he’s comfortable now. imagine playing behind the worst oline in football for 5 yrs. He deserves credit when he plays good we been killing him for yrs.
I gotta do my part and get my like and comment in. I've been watching weekly since the 22 season and this is the best Giants podcast out there. Look forward every week to the recap and film breakdowns! Thanks guys
Hyatt absolutely made an impact by drawing two holding flags, one on 3erd down. Jones was definitely going his way on one of them but either way Hyatt made an impact and he was in 70% of the snaps on offense
I think this game was super important for the offense. Showed we can move the ball well without Malik, and ofc the tyrone tracy breakout. Hopefully we can protect malik a bit better from here out and spread the ball out more, I feared we were becoming too one dimensional on offense, and putting our WR1 in too many dangerous spots receiving the ball. Great work as always guys!
Maybe the injuries were a blessing in disguise. Now teams won't be able to hyper focus on stopping Malik and therefore stopping the Giants. Treacy showed he can handle NFL, let's hope he continues to develop
Love you guys, thanks 🙏 I was looking forward to this breakdown, especially because as I watched the game I thought to myself this might be the best game I've ever seen. Daniel Jones play. Let's see the tape 🎉
The mental toughness around this team is contagious. First DJ ignoring the horrendous start week 1 and the calls for Lock from even his biggest supporters, Daboll continuing to get them ready to play and guys scraping for him, Bowen off a bad week 2 performance has strung together 3 quality games in a row especially in terms of pass rush , but BY FAR the most impressive of them all is Dan Schneier nutting up and battling the sun slapping him RIGHT in the face with a little peep to his chin.
Love the pod and show gents. Keep the work up. I try to like best i can, thanks for the reminders Dan lol. I do wonder why this pod doesnt get nearly as many views or subs as the others. Geninue question? Do you think its the length? I love a long listen but maybe 1 long record but breaking things down into 2/3 videos? Maybe you've done this before. Wishing you all the best, GO BIG BLUE!
Excellent job guys. I am a Jersey girl born NY Giants fan for 52 years. I learn something every time with your tremendous content!! Thank you & Giants fans like, subscribe & comment!!😊
Thanks Guys for everything you do, the show is great! Dan, I am doing my best to "like" every episode ;) Nick, I wanted to give you a shout out because I am also originally from Exit 26 on 80
HIT THAT LIKE BUTTON PEOPLE!!! It's a victory film session!!! Here we go! I've been waiting all day for this! What a game, boys! P.s. You guys read my superchat, but it showed as Billy Costigan Jr. For the record, Nick. You're the first to catch that reference! Love the TC hit the like button pop up!😂
Love Dan's point around the 23:00 mark regarding DJ's ball placement. The past few years we've seen him place passes behind targets forcing them to slow down, contort, etc to adjust. Now with better placement it's affording guys to make plays and pick up YAC.
But this isn't exclusive to DJ. I've watched Joe Burrow underthrow Chase and he slows adjust tracks the ball and catches. I've watched Jefferson do this, and many other WRs. Ball placement isn't going to be pinpoint perfect if it's in the WR catch radius they should more times than not catch it. I think this ball placement narrative is overblown/exaggerated and just one of the many hyper fixated Jonesism. NFL QBs miss open WRs all the time it's way over blown when it's Jones. Or maybe that's how I see things in our nyg bubble I dunno I'm ok with being wrong.
An often overlooked part of this is not only the protection being better (multiple levels better), but because of that, DJ has the confidence to stay in the pocket. Shout-out to Carmen Briscillo. He magically has transformed this O-line from the worst in the NFL to possibly a top 10! We never even DREAMED of that. We just wanted average. This is trending in the right direction. I know the Washington loss is a killer, but so was the turnover at the beginning of this game. This team has grit. We MIGHT be going places. PS. The neck injury last year came from a blind side hit with Ezuedu at left tackle. (Ezuedu was crying about it, actually). Yeah taking the hits concerns me too. But Daboll is used to Josh Allen? They should have a baseball coach teach him how to slide. Seriously.
Great recap and insight guys…so happy to see competitive, complimentary football and get a win! Can’t remember the last time I saw Jones and company play so well!!!
This was the first game where you could get into the heads of Daboll/Schoen and understand the justification for their confidence in DJ. There’s elements of his game he displayed against the Seahawks that they must’ve seen over the last few years: arm talent, processing, how comfortable he looked at the line of scrimmage, among them.
We gotta remember, he's always had deep ball accuracy to Slayton. He's already calibrated to Slay. It's the new guys that he's still calibrating to on the deep ball. Which is understandable being that Daboll didn't let them do it during the off season
Do you guys think Schoen deserves somewhat of a “pass” for Neal and others in the 2022 draft class since he was still working with a lot of Gettleman’s scouts, etc? We need to see how the ‘23 and ‘24 classes continue to progress but right now those players, especially this year’s class, look like mostly hits. At the very least, all players are legitimate NFL players. Love the show fellas! Keep up the great content!
Idk if "pass" is the right word for it. Look, everyone who evaluated that draft will take an L on Neal. We both had him as our top tackle. He wasn't a clean prospect, but he has taken ZERO steps of development since entering the league and his struggles in college are enhanced now that he's in the league. Development is an issue for Neal. There's something to what you're saying about the staff, though.
People want DJ to succeed because he's hard working and a consummate professional. He represents what the Giants have stood for much of their existence, and frankly thats why he got paid. Sure he went out and won a playoff game on the road, but he got paid because he showed the organization that he can prepare and train at an elite level. That's honestly what separates him from the bottom tier starters that people like to compare him to. And with the right team, that dedication and resiliency at the QB spot can absolutely win a chip.
Terrible logic. Saquon encapsulates this better than DJ does. We can’t be paying big money for a mediocre QB. People think because he is similar to temperament to Eli that he is as good as Eli was. He isn’t…
@wrongsnowboard4356 they look at 40M like it's 5 years ago... once the market resets, it's a mid-tier salary for a QB, & if he keeps this up, they're getting a DEAL!!!
my only complaint on offence was not targeting hyatt a single time he was open on at least 3 or 4 occassions that i noticed he caught 2 holding calls but didnt get 2 or 3 others and thats because of his lack of catches i would like to see him run a few of these route robinson gets underneath to get him going and to take some of those shots they give slayton someone brought up ramses barden and what we are doing with hyatt mirrors the way they mishandled barden back in the day where they traded up to make sure they got a WR then just didnt use him enough
++Comments re: Dex and the national media. I think the organization/staff is under less pressure when the conversations are about great play/players than the punch line theme. OL/Bricillo and the rookie class also doing their part here. Play like this and the record takes care of itself.
Nah. Take a qb if they can and if they pick where they don't like a qb take a player they really like if there is one there. Roster is almost complete just need a qb, 3 tech, big edge role, SAM backer, outside corner, and would be nice to have a high end guard too. Otherwise just depth battling
also in regards to 13:15, we lost against the dolphins last year after getting a pick 6 in the endzone! At least another time a team lost after a 14 point swing and it was us lol
Tracys running style reminds me of a quicker less powerful Demarco Murray. More than just wearing 29. Both are taller for RB, solidly built, super upright style, can make you miss or run through LBs and DBs(Murray destroyed some DL too, don't know if Tracy will have that force being lighter) lack that 6th gear of "if I get clear to the 2nd level, its going to the house" but still very fast. I get why people say Bradshaw because both look like the Tazmanian devil a bit, arms and legs just flailing around bouncing off of tacklers, but AB almost looked bow-legged or something idk. Tracy is a better and taller athlete but DBs don't want to have to tackle either of them, but IDK if anyone enjoyed the violence of the game quite as much as AB. That guy was a sick individual and I fuckin loved em.
It’s so funny that a contingent of the fanbase will never be happy as long as Jones is the QB. But if he keeps stacking these solid games, year 7 of DJ isn’t unlikely. Just gotta win
It’s because in a 6 year sample size he hasn’t been good even through the turmoil. I like DJ I like rooting for him but the dude isn’t a pro bowl level player by any means
Right.. surprise!! It's disgusting how him having no line, no wr1, & a sub par support from saquan, was all called excuses... & now that he has a line, some good RB play & a WR1, he's showing up & delivering. On 2 occasions, he did enough to win but passes were dropped in the clutch & cost us the game.
The Giants do need to put more points on the board. It's easy to say hard to do, I know. But when you have momentum, you need to put teams away. I do think this team is better than Daboll season 1, go Big Blue
If Jones continues this level of play, does he stay with the Giants? I mean... his play was ELITE vs the Seahawks....Jones was the 2nd best player on the entire field that game, behind Dexter Lawrence
Why do you guys think Daniel Jones' mechanics were different at the start of the season? I don't get what he was trying to do. Looks like he has gone back to his normal mechanics. It's a curious thing...
It's bs where he was drafted wr before his selection and after are getting more play time .. The giants definitely need another option in pass game just Slayton Nabers Robinson Theo that's it and RB
Fellas, what I want to know is: why did the O get away from power/gap & duo last week, why did they return it to, what is the theory they’re working with?
As far as im concerned i feel this the first yesr DJ had a workable o line. Without an o line u got nothing. Win the trenches on bith sidrs of ball my biggest thing. Big differnece if u ask me. Cant judge any qb with the worst line in nfl history or close to it. He got this year to prove homself in my eyes. Ither years i theow out. Plus he did pretty decent with not much in 22. People like to sown play a playoff win but a playoff win is a playoff win. Lot of qbs dint even get that done with nothing. Imagine barkeley with an o line. His talent got hom to break plays here and therd but with thst o line lot of runs went -2. Line is huge. U need to pritrct thr qb. The best qbs dont get it done with no protection. Look at our 2 suoer bowls with brady. Look at tb suoer bowl agianst mahommes who is a winner. Ya mahommes would make more plays than dj but ur delusional if u thjnk he an mvp with our lines. Last yesr suoer bowl mahommes great but their D got them there
No one gets a free pass for the s#!t show that was 2023 including Jones and Daboll but it really was a season from hell. From the opening drive where the FG was blocked and returned nothing went right including Thomas being hurt in game one. But because of bad line play and injury there wasn't a chance of Jones progressing the way Daboll was hoping. He didn't play well but missed more than half the year and when he played he was under constant pressure. He does seem to be progressing in Daboll's system while the line does its job to protect him. No excuses this year. The offense has to continue to get better as the year goes on.
Hands down best Giants Podcast!

Man I can’t wait to get a new qb that Daboll can mold. If DJ can play like this and ball out to this level imagine what another qb could do

Is year 3 Daboll's magic number for turning QBs into something?
We will see.
One truly good game. He was the main reason they lost last week. It will take more than one game for me to get excited at all.
Wasn't there at one point DJ was not allowed to call audibles? If my memory is correct then it shows a lot growth on his part that now he is.

WRs get to play when they can do things like
-defeat press coverage
-stalk block effectively
-run all the routes
His build is a limiting factor.

He’s playing well, I expect him to keep improving too
Unheralded gotta go to Banks imo
Why do you guys think Daniel Jones' mechanics were different at the start of the season? I don't get what he was trying to do. Looks like he has gone back to his normal mechanics. It's a curious thing...
The mechanics didn't seem to be an issue outside of Week 1 where he was getting nailed for much of the game.
Whats going on with hyatt?
I’m worried too. He should be out there.
It's bs where he was drafted wr before his selection and after are getting more play time ..
The giants definitely need another option in pass game just
Slayton
Nabers
Robinson
Theo that's it and RB
Last yesr suoer bowl mahommes great but their D got them there
People want DJ to succeed because he's the white QB for the Giants

A flea flicker for a pass at the line of scrimmage is not a good play. Jones can't throw anything further though so that is the only option.
