Excellent as usual. A word of advice from an old trail runner: don't run with such a wide grin in the summer when there are bees or wasps around, they tend to resent being in the mouth. It hurts!
Best trail running advice ever! That's totally how it starts: you head out to a beautiful place, start walking, then you'll start to bounce or playfully hop off a root or stone, and then you're running! And then it hurts and you stop, take in the natural beauty, and it starts again. Trail running should be fun and playful.
Northern Ireland is so beautiful! I can’t wait to get back there! Excellent advice about starting slow and not to pressure ourself. I’m sure my wife will now be hiding her slippers! Have you thought anymore about offering a Luts pack??
Started watching your videos looking for info on GoPro cameras... and now I'm watching it all! Trail running! Love your way of testing cameras, hiking / running / gust wind-canping etc... humour... and the scenes are amazing!
Funny and entertaining, thanks! The problem with trail running is that there is no going back once you start. The equipment you need depends on the distance, and how remote you are. If you are in the mountains (running or hiking) you should always carry emergency equipment. A first aid kit and survival blanket are very cheap and light, and could save your life!
Thanks! I make a distinction between trail and mountain running, I see them as disciplines as different as road and trail. A lot of trail races can just be done in road shoes. But yes a lot more kit once advanced to mountain/fell running, first aid kit, survival bivvi (not blanket), emergency food, full waterproofs, map, compass (depending on area) and sometimes a satellite communicator

Morning Stephen, again another brillaint video. We have been looking forward to this and it did not disappoint. Really useful, non preachy, supportive advise, thank you. Loved the mackerel sky in the back ground too, normally a sign of changing weather! Great advise on finding tracks and trails too, clubs and groups are brillaint, even if you don't like talking to people you can still gleam information 🧐 We are a little way off the trail runners smile lol, maybe one day! Stay safe and well, Ceri and Kat ❤🏔👍
I’ve been mostly running on road for years but really want to start more off road stuff. I find that in my trail runs my mile times are MUCH slower mostly because I’m focused on not breaking an ankle or falling on my face. I’m aiming for 1200 miles this year and I hope to make at least 600 of it off road.
I went from a 7:45min/mile road pace to 9:30-11:30min/mile on trail. That’s one huge difference, you have to let your ideas about pace and time go as there are a lot more variables. It’s a different type of fitness. A runner who is 8:30 on road is less fit than one who is 8:30 on trail.
I started running on trails a couple of weeks ago. I'm 62 and way overweight! I got the Salomon chest active pack to carry water, added bonus, it restricts my man boobs from bouncing all over when attempting to run. Every other day I'm running through a forest at 5.30am and loving it. Why 5.30am? Mainly because I'm fat and don't want people to see me 🤣🤣🤣 At the moment when I run (if you can call it that), I look like a beached whale struggling to get back to water!
I've seriously got more respect for you getting out there and getting active than someone really young and in shape. Too many people just give up and decide they are stuck and will never improve so never try. I've been enjoying your terrible jokes when they pop up in my feed! 😁
Just took the bins out wearing my slippers and I'm feel like the support and cushioning is starting to go. I've been sporting the Christmas stocking filler special the last couple of year. I like a neutral, medium cushion slipper thats durable and has an air of distinguished style. You seem like a slipper connoisseur, would you have any recommendations ????
You want something with zero drop, medium cushion but with maximum faux fur collar for ankle support. Most popular for winter are the over-sized gorilla feet style with the chunky nails on the front for grip in icy conditions 😛 I hear some of the latest models have a carbon plate, but it’s a bit controversial 😂
Right, I think I’m sold... but I’m most definitely a non-runner right now! I’m gonna use this as my inspiration to lose a few (a lot!) pounds and get back into shape - all on the condition that when I head over to POV you get me out on one of those stunning locations with some running shoes and a drone 😉
I loved the intro and you are so so very correct. If you can stand satirical and profanity laced humour I would encourage you to seek out Trail's Rants here on TH-cam. It's all about how silly trail runners can get.
Another entertaining educational video. I wish you could be my teacher in all things. Like... "Hey Stephen, I need to patch up my plaster wall, could you do a video??" Lol
Hi Sean! I run about 2-3 times a week on average. Maybe 4 times when I’m seriously training. I’ve met a least a couple of decent runners who only started running 60+ Definitely not too late, take it slow and give it a go, listen to your body. The fact you’re already a hiker is a good start.
Hi Stephen, awesome videos! I have a technical question: The Timewarp at the trail and SloMo at the bridge - was that done in postproduction or did you you Timewarp and SloMo directly with the GoPro?
Watch out I’m coming for you Mr Reid….. lol. Been loosing weight and have started walking/running 10k, some of the lads want to start trail running. Watch out.
“An important part about trail running is about stopping and enjoying the views” thankyou!!!
Yup! Enjoy em views!
+1

Started my couch to 5k today, was super fun, enjoyed the challenge. Set myself some long term goals. Cheers for the videos, they are great inspiration
Brilliant! Very happy to hear that! Keep at it and remember sometimes it can take a while to ease into.

Loved the video and the location was beautiful, but I'm knackered now and feel to old to run. Thanks for the video.
I sometimes think I’m getting old and slow and then some guy twice my age runs past me 😃
Thank you for this, i have started running and found this video inspirational
Great! Glad it’s still being useful all these years later
Great start to this subject, can't wait for mor. Keep her lit!
Thanks Andrew!
Yep, I’m definitely going to take my running off road at some point! The more frequent sunny weather makes it more appealing! Great series!
Pleasant conditions do help, but there’s something about running in terrible weather too that’s pretty special 😂
Funny and entertaining, thanks!
