The family should take a boating safety class
I've had something similar happen. Launched my boat and had my wife take the lines while I backed it up. My wife had the line in hand, and I launched it. Next thing I know, I look back and my boat is floating into another boat on the dock. I'm always pretty uptight at the ramp, lots to look out for and if you aren't efficient others will chew your head off. Anyway, I get out of the truck hot headed and yelling at my wife asking "WTF is going on?! Pull the boat in!!!". She holds the end of the rope. It was never tied to the cleat on the boat. I think my head exploded at that point. My boat hit another one at the dock, he wanted my insurance information to pay for damages. It was a pain to get the boat back to the dock since it was just floating around in very heavy current. And did I mention my mother in law was there too? First time taking her out on the boat. I'm sure she loved seeing me flipping out on her daughter. Fast forward to today, we are at a marina - and still happily married.
This is by far the best boat channel on TH-cam!

My dad always insisted that my mom could operate the boat by herself - mostly so he could drink, but it was still a good idea.
I love the aerial shot of the ramp, it gives a great perspective of the ramps and that dock you usually film from. Nice to see some new content from you CCC. I was stationed down at Homestead AFB in the early 90's and got out a few weeks before Andrew rearranged S.Florida.
He didn't even look at her. He's probably one of those guys who walks in front of his wife at the mall and never looks back to make sure she's still there.

Husbands first task after our purchase of a boat was operating instructions in case he fell ill.
Exactly, on day 1 I started teaching my wife EVERYTHING about our boat, and instructed her, if something happens to me ie. i'm sick/fall in/jump in to save a drowning person....whatever it is...she was now the Captain !!!! And around when my daughter turned 12-13, instructed her the same, and yes she knew how to handle a boat by then!
Good way to make sure you have a nice, quiet, and relaxing day on the boat every time you take it out in the future. The reason is that mom and kiddo will be at home.

Took the fam to a restaurant on the lake in our 17ft Whaler. Pulled up to the dock, handed a dock line to the dock guy. He tied a perfect cleat hitch. Far end of the cleat, round the horn, flip line, done. I was so impressed I tipped him 10 bucks. Told him he was the first person I've seen all summer that didn't tie up a 4 inch thick clump of rope on a dock cleat.
Thumbs up for some good tips when you're approaching the dock.

2. Does anyone in Florida know how to loop a dock line?
3. The proper way to do this if she doesn't know how to do the backing in or starting the boat is for him to back it in then GET OUT OF THE TRUCK AND GET IN THE BOAT to unchain, unstrap, lower the motor, start it, and start backing in reverse while she pulls the truck straight out and parks it. That'll only work though if she can bear to lower the window and turn down the Florida Georgia Line song that's blasting on the radio so she can hear him when he says GO. Him sitting in the truck while he finishes his smoke is hilarious.
4. I don't blame you for blocking the daughter's face...kids can't pick their parents.
5. There's a way to do this if one partner can't grasp the physics... have him or her do the things they're good at and practice a couple times at a ramp that's not packed. We did this for 28 years with a 22 foot Sea Ray and after a year or so we could put it in the water in less than 90 seconds and pull it out in about two minutes....TOPS. It isn't that hard to learn "Ramp Edicate".

Amazing how many guys don’t teach their wife or kids how to operate the boat. I started my daughter when she was around 10 or 11. She can drive it off and on the trailer and does a decent job of docking. Wife can get the batteries on and get back to the dock if need be. What happens if that dude has a heart attack out there?
It appears that in most US states, no license is required to operate a boat. No training, even the most basic. Life jackets, even for children also seem to be optional rather than mandatory. This makes for some entertaining videos but I imagine in comes at a cost !

I say blame goes 50-50. The guy should have checked if she was ready. But the daughter was on the dock. The guy looked back and probably assumed they were good to go. The wife should have already thrown her the line to hold.

A paddle is legal required equipment for all boats, to begin with! She should have known that & there should have been one in the boat! She should have known to get it out & start using it... assuming they followed the law and actually had one onboard? 😮
