Because his wife is his other half. The mother of his children. Though his mother feels the loss in a way that cannot be described, it is customary to honor the wife. Who in turn will honor his mother. To lose a husband is a horrible pain, but a mother loves a child unconditionally, before a child learns to love he is connected to his mother. And he was brought into the world in pain.. the mother is reliving all of that pain and agony that was once replaced by joy... And he will always be connected in spirit to his mother. Just as his children will always be connected to their mother.
