Note to self: check my softail's rotor bolts. New fear unlocked lol
pulley bolts. rotor is on right side but check those also.
@@bobberguy1 d'oh that's what I meant :)
Man we’re so lucky neither resulted in a crash
service manual states to replace those bolts/ proper torque spec/ thread locker compound
I still cannot believe this. I thought it was wild when it happened to me and for it it to happen to you twice in 1 day is wild. Things happen for a reason though. Good thing it happen on her bike while you were riding. Would have been way worse if it had happened with her on it and she went down. Thank God for that!
Also, have you checked the road king yet? lol
I came here to ask that myself. lol
I’m checking the road king before I ride it! Damn straight
I had the same happen on a 2005 twin cam softail, mine sheared and scrapped the wheel. Hope you get it sorted.
getting it worked out now
This happens quite often on chain converted Harleys, Locktite or not does not seem to make a difference. The best way to prevent this is using a thin steel ring with tabs that are bent upwards after torqueing the bolts, against the flats. This makes it impossible for the bolt to spin loose. It's like $10, Lowbrow have and strongly recommend them for a chain conversion.
Smart. I haven’t heard of these and can’t picture but I want to check it out. I wish they had safety wire holes. I know how to do that
Unbelievable, glad y’all safe
That's wild holy crap. Luckily y'all are okay!
One thing i learned a long time ago check everything even if its a new bike . Bought a brand new softail first ride would get a banging sound on bumps.
The neck bearings were loose. I repair, build and customize bikes ,have a buddy who helps me out.
everything gets checked twice sometimes 3 times .i suggest once or twice a year check the major components. And you should do a basic pre ride check tires, lights, brakes and a look over.
Ride safe
Here's my take. I think when the sprocket was installed on the green bike. The bolt hole threads were not properly cleaned out and had a thread chaser run through each bolt hole prior to installing new bolts torqued to spec and using blue loctite. As for your wife's bike I see that it has a aftermarket chrome pulley cover installed over the factory pulley. Same thing as the green bike. I always run a thread chaser down each hole , new bolts and blue loctite and torqued. Have never had any ever back out. Best of luck fixing them, hopefully the hubs aren't ruined.
Agree, Kruesi Originals has done a video on this exact situation.
Dude that sucks! Glad you guys didn't get hurt! Hope you get it figured! Stay safe out there!!😎🤙👍🤙👍🇨🇦
Yeah thanks man we’re good
When rear bearings start to go it heats up the wheel thread locker lets go from the heat and load.Have seen this a lot check it out Geist Wulf Cycles
could be it. not sure
Good looking bbq. Sorry that both bikes had issues man. Stay positive mister
Appreciate it, man.
Hey Uncle Bo, it's me again!! Sorry to see u is having problems with 2 rear sprockets! Cold up here in Saskatchewan so my ol' Dyna is parked fer now.
Saskatchewan winters are brutal! Hope you’re staying warm man.
Ahh full circle. Found your channel a few years ago when you posted the video from our deployment back in 2000 and found you again because I finally bought a Harley.
Nice! Welcome back
I have a 1989 FXRS Low Rider. No local Harley dealer will touch it. I do have a decent independent Harley shop not far away. My bike has 71,000 miles on it. I bought it in near new condition in 2003 with only 13,000 miles on it. Even when I bought it, and it had been a garage kept bike in Phoenix, AZ, some of the aluminum parts were tarnished, and had minor corrosion. That just seems to be a Harley thing. I used a very fine sanding sponge to remove it. I have done that a few more times during the past 20+ years. I've replaced the belt and both pulleys about 25,000 miles ago. I put a chrome cover on the pulley. I've added quite a bit of chrome to it. If there is one thing I can't stand, it's a blacked out bike. The pulley (or sprocket) bolts need Loctite on them. Pretty much everything on a Harley needs Loctite. I'm a bit puzzled why you put a chain and sprockets on a '96 Dyna.
I agree have ridden a long time first I have heard of this.
I have that same smoker, works great, I always try to fill it up though to save on fuel costs. I'll smoke three butts and freeze two.
Yeah it’s worked out great so far.
Nope, never had sprocket come loose. Had chain and a belt snap, but not on the same day or year. 🤷 Glad you're both safe though, could've been ugly!
I've seen a belt snap but never a sprocket like that.
I am so glad that you weren’t hurt and your wife wasn’t hurt. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Everything is a learning experience ❤
im surprised youve never run into this issue before. i know atleast a dozen twin cam bikes that have had this issue. all have been twin cams that shake like crazy and were a swapped drive sprocket or swapped wheels, people cheap out and reuse bolts or dont clean the holes well, and dont loctite well enough and they wiggle loose or just wiggle out enough to shear off.
Yeah first time ever man. And the yellow one is an evo
Just found your channel and subscribed!
Welcome!
I felt sabotage was the culprit for my front brake caliper falling off the first time then when it happened again 2 years later I realized it was install related. EVO’s vibrate!
Apparently they shake rattle and roll
Rode my mini to work and someone disconnected my throttle cable from carburetor and took apart my phone holder. I ride the mini to work because it is relaxing and it saves gas. It was intentional done.
silly question did you check the roadking?
Not yet but I haven’t ridden
6:44 My first thought as well... maybe not malicious, but someone touching bike that doesnt know what they are doing lol.... at least nothing bad came of it.. other than the hit to the pocket book.
pretty big hit too.
when was the last time it was serviced? and buy who?
ive done my own since i got it in may
Two in one day? Damn. What are the chances? That’d be like getting hit by lightning during a shark attack. Lots of good intel in the comments. Hope you get it sorted. My maintenance schedule for wheels. Ever second tire change, new wheel bearings, pulley bolts, threads chased, loctite, proper torque specs and tightening sequence. Best of luck.
Thanks! Yeah we’re working it out
That is pretty wild that happening on the same day
Yeah man very odd
Last spring I had to have all new wheel bearings,... and my Road King is only a 2020!.... and never ever before since i was a kid!... and I'm 66!
Weird things happening out there man
@UncleBogator But of all Motorcycles you'd think would wear out wheel bearings at all youd think it wouldn't be a Harley!.
. However, i was told it's recommended to get new bearings with and when you need-get new tires!... first time I've Ever heard that in my life!... seems crazy!
Use shadetrees excuse and blame blockhead 🤣
That’s thinking
I broke my front wheel last summer, between wheel, tire and labor it was 1400. The real kicker was that I never hit anything that I thought would break it, and it was only 2 years old
Expensive man
From the pitting, but lack of rust- are those aluminum wheels? Remember folks- aluminum is trash compared to steel- it will fatigue and fail guaranteed, it is not a question of 'if,' but of 'when.'
I used to own a 84 FXR with dual belts, ditched both for chains. NEVER had a problem with the chains with thousands of miles. Driveshaft, or chains will never own a bike with a belt drive.
The first bike that broke was a chain drive
Definitely strange.
Huges Hand built sprocket lock $65.00 easy install and peace of mind!
Should look into it
How could you end the video like that🤤
I was drunk and hungry lol
Bummer of a day. Glad you are both ok, even though your wallet just got punched in the face.
I know exactly what it is. You're never gonna believe me. But definitely, without a doubt, it's gremlin's.I'm telling you it's gremlins. Those little sobs are running all over my shop
What happened to you guys it was intentional sabotage definitely. I would put a small recording camera on your bike that is not noticeable at all. I have one on my bike and my mini bike. Sends notifications to my phone any movement around the bike.
Putting weight on the bike like that would potentially make the belt way too tight.
Potentially
@ usually you need to make a suspension adjustment when putting more weight. I ment no disrespect. It is 1 in a million you would have two of your bikes fail like that. I will be taking out each pulley bolt, clean and re lock right after seeing this though. I am glad no one got hurt. Could have been bad.
Who'd you piss off???
Wish I knew
Very Strange
Broke bikes suck! Sorry for your troubles. Thank God neither of you were hurt though. ❤
to many wheelies
I know who did this to you're bikes. it was Shadetree Surgeon 😂 just kidding, I ended up getting my Eahora tiger 🐅 max scooter 3weeks ago and put the custom seat on and I'm in electronic scooter tramp heaven. it all worked out great 👍. I hope you can get you're bikes fixed ASAP it's never a fun moment when bike's are broke down.
Hell yeah man glad to hear it!
That’s just shit ass bad luck. Damn.
Weird right?
Buy a lottery ticket.
Should huh
Who'd you upset? Might be something you always do that some petty person got butthurt over. Or, do you have a helpful kid wanting to learn......on your bike at the house at anytime?😮
Nope. None of the above. Very strange
Quit them cigs brother..
one of these days maybe
Typical. The iPhone of motorcycles... over priced, over hyped ultimately junk.
could be
Say you do all your own work without saying it.
i never touched the wheels or pulleys my man
Someone doesn’t like you…..
I’ve got over 500000 miles on motorcycles of all types never had a sprocket come loose….
Yeah me neither til now
Unk Bo, you haven't pissed anyone of lately' have you? Either you need to play the lotto or watch your back. Don't those bolts have red loctite? That's some bummer s_it. I'm heading out to the garage and check my 2012 Limited.. It's good that you guys were not above the speed limit... Stay safe...
Yeah man we got really lucky it wasnt worse. Twice!
You have to remember it’s a Harley Davidson one of the most unreliable motorcycles you can own. I’ve had many of them yeah pile of shit.
I've had just about every brand of motorcycle made. none of them are immune to this type of thing
@@UncleBogator yeah they are the most unreliable motorcycle. You can just about buy do your research.
