- This is a complete episode of "Leo the Lion," the English title for Osamu Tezuka's 1966 Japanese animated series, "Jungle Taitei Susume Leo" (Jungle Emperor Forward Leo), which was the follow-up series to "Jungle Taitei," which had been shown in the U.S. in 1966 in an English-dubbed version as "Kimba the White Lion." The sequel, which follows Kimba as an adult (Leo), was not shown in the U.S. until 1984 when the Christian Broadcasting Network ran it in a newly dubbed version. This episode, "The Blue Lion," tells the story of Leo's confrontation with a group of rival lions led by Zamba, a blue lion. Leo tries to defend his animal friends from Zamba and his group, but is reluctant to fight him after he learns how Zamba was rejected by the other lions when he was a cub because of the color of his skin, an experience Leo can relate to. Leo recalls being called "Kimba" when he was a cub, an animal word for "little coward." This is the only reference to "Kimba" I've heard in this sequel series and it strikes me as odd, since no one ever gave that as the meaning of "kimba" in the original "Kimba" series. Definitely an unusual entry in the series and quite a bit more violent than usual, with scenes of lions attacking and killing other animals, the kind of action that would never have been allowed in the U.S. version of "Kimba." Look for other Leo the Lion episodes on this channel, including "Leo Becomes a Father," "The Golden Bow," "The Sabertooth Tiger," "The First Adventure," and "The Case of the Moonlight Stone."

I have this on VHS, watched it a million times when I was growing up, 21 now first time seeing it in years, still got the tape! What an incredible story, so glad this was part of my childhood, I gained allot of seriously valuable and respectable qualities from the lessons within. Wow... Deep.. Thanks for posting!

To be completely honest, Zamba the blue lion is zany, abrasive, mean, brainy, athletic, thoughtless, harsh, emotionless, boorish, loathsome, unfriendly, earnest, loquacious, irascible, obstinate and negative.
Specifically, his uncle is honorable, inspirational, sensible, understanding, noble, caring, lion-hearted, even-tempered, humble, instructive, selfless, unswerving, nice, courteous, level-headed and encouraging.
Because Zamba was bullied constantly, and that's what made him very antagonistic.

This episode first aired in 1966 but wasn’t dubbed until 1984. The voice quality is too clean for 1966 so it doesn’t sync up with the original Japanese version.

+TheMADWonderland Leo is the original Japanese name for this white lion. 'Kimba' was given to him by NBC when they bought the series from Osamu Tezuka and made adjustments for an American audience. These adjustments included a very experience NY cast of voice actors for the original series . . Unfortunately it appears no professional voice actors were used for this sequel as the quality is so poor . . . .

@@braunshugar1 well, he was know as leo in the 1983 cartoon, that aired on a us network cbn in the 80's. btw, cbn is now freeform, and in that cartoon he was a cube .nickelodeon aired kimba back in the 80's as part of their special delivery hour.

@@KimbaCookie Well I use to watch the show on cbn in the 80;s , so I looked it up and it said that kimba was know as leo in the us version that aired on cbn , and I rember seeing the show on nickelodeon as part of a programing block called special delivery. and I guess due to regulations or something they made him a cube .

is this the same as kimba the lion? how many episodes is it for Leo the lion in total?
This was a sequel series to the original Kimba the White Lion series. Leo was the original name for Kimba in the Japanese series. This series shows him as an adult. There were 26 Japanese episodes, but I don't know how many were dubbed into English. I explained all this in the description I provided.
Wait... I watched the movie and Leo died so I thought that Kimba was the kid. The kid didn't die in the movie. I'm confused
