It just surprises me how Astro Boy has got a movie, but not Kimba The White Lion. (No, I’m not counting the Jungle Emperor Leo films, even though Kimba’s name is Leo in Japan) I mean a movie we can watch on the Big Screen. Kimba never got a film on the big screen. After TBCTF released in 2010, the franchise has just been… abandoned… like… it’s been over 10 years since we’ve got anything from Kimba. The fact they just abandoned one of Tezukia’s beloved IP’s of all time!

The musical score to the Jungle Emperor (Kimba) series is the best. A long time ago there were records and CDs of the actual show soundtrack and familiar versions.
I watched this on channel 44 in the SF bay area in 72' the 44 represnted the Golden Gate Bridge. Very forward thinking cartoon - I got it. Positive message & kids know good when they see so wonderfuly renderd! I'm 59 now. Like I watched yesterday! Kids today ate so short-chined! We can do better than Niji Turtles & Power Tangers? Ya think?! Come on!!!😱👍
As a French person, I was curious to check out the English dub of this series and while so far, the voices seem fine, not a fan of some dialogue differences (in French, when seeing the music box, instead of asking what it is, Kimba asks who the man is and when he is told it is the father, he asks why he has none). But also... why change the name of Leo to Kimba? As well as the father's name to Cesar? Especially when (unless this was an addition from the French dub, which I somehow doubt) Leo literally got his name from his own father, also named Leo. It just seems stronger to me on many levels... and trust me, the French dub still has MANY flaws.
The most important thing to know is that Africa is not a country; it's a continent of 54 countries that are diverse culturally and geographically. It's so diverse because Africa is really, really big - about as big as the combined landmasses of China, the United States, India, Japan and much of Europe.
funny you say that, when pretty much all the Black African human characters in this show are blackface caricatures... (In case it's clear, no one finds it offensive that an animal character is white. have you seen anyone complain about the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland? or Moby Dick the white whale?)
People have been making stories about lions since the Bible, Aesop fables, etc… you cannot tell me that the Lion King could have possibly inspired from Kimba the White Lion alone. It’s also a show about African animals, what do you think the odds are that a lot of their environments would happen to be the same bc it takes place in Africa???
Watch the YMS review on the Kimba/Lion King conspiracy, it eviscerates it to shreds… There are at least three to four decades worth of Kimba animes, movies, etc. compared to 60-90 minutes of The Lion King. You have been lied to.
The original Lion King film may only be 90 minutes long, but there’s two sequels, a remake and a prequel to the remake, and two TV series too. Not to mention there’s a lot of spinoff media. Still, YMS did do a good debunking. Tezuka’s estate never sued at any rate, but that may have just been because they thought Disney had really great lawyers.

Whenever I hear the English opening for Kimba, I am immediately transported back nearly 45 years to when I watched the reruns on television.

Leo's father is called Panja in Japanese, not Leo as well. The French dub is wrong.
