I love your videos so much! thank you! I especially relate to self-portrait tip. I remember at times when I wanted to draw but couldn't do anything good, I just drew myself. Realism, semi-realism. cartoonish style etc. It really helps out when you beat yourself up for not drawing anything and also with self-esteem. As for me - I have my own tip: is that you should find something that will make you recognizable on your self-portraits, even if they're VERY simple. For me it's my hair and eyes :)
I just KNEW that I wasn't going to like the quote page idea as soon you started writjng. Boy, was I wrong!!! And your self a portrait tip is very timely since I'm struggling with my very first human portrait (I usually paint pets and airplanes). I'd decided to do a self, portrait but it's a tough go. Drawing a sketch a day would really help me develop that skill, not to mention the side benefit of the emotional therapy of "facing myself" intensely every day!
Seal your oil pastels with an art fixative spray, or I used to use hair spray (because it was readily available) to stop it from transferring to the next page, also good for when you want to layer your oil pastels a bit more without ruining the bottom layer! :) Hope this helps, love your art!
Really cool video ! I just finished my first sketchbook (I drew on random paper sheets for years ahah) and I'm trying to find goals for my next one and this was useful ! Also, I use a lot of different mediums and when using oil pastels or things like charcoal I put tracing paper between the two pages so the next one doesn't get messy (you can also draw on the tracing paper, it's kind of like having a new layer on top that both looks fun and protects your next page) :)
Just found your channel my first video absolutely beautiful. I am almost 68 and just starting out I don't have much skill but hope to learn. Thank you so much for all your help and hard work 👍 ❤️ blessings from Ontario 🇨🇦 oh could you please tell me if you use mostly water color or gouache and is gouache similar to watercolor only more apaque?
Thank you so much for commenting this means so much! I use mostly gouache and yes it’s similar but it is more opaque almost like acrylic. But it can always be thinned out and reactivated with water. There is also Acryl gouache which acts the same way but once it’s dry it doesn’t get reactivated. In my art supplies video I show both of the brands I use!
Lovely ideas! Thank you! It’s so easy to get a bit frozen in front of a blank page, especially with sketchbooks. So any ideas and inspiration is always welcome. ❤❤❤
I love these ideas!! Been having blocks lately, so thank you for this. ☺️ I regularly use line of action (learning to draw animals, which is a weak spot for me). It’s been a very useful tool for studying.
