These progressions are just what I need to get back to where my kick serve was when I was playing more. I took some time off after indoor tennis season and once I came back my second serve was going long all too often. Need to get back on the practice court and get my toss back further to 11:00 to 12:00 position. Excited to use these progressions Nick!

Great Drills to improve the kickserve. While executing these progressions I got a good feel for the basics of the kickserve. Thank you Nick for this helpful video and by the way: 4 Tennisballs 🎾🎾🎾🎾🤚🏻in your tossing hand while performing these exercises is a real hard challenge 😁. All the best Jörg

This video was the one that taught me the kick serve, that helped me finally record the feel, the muscle memory and the image in my head that I needed to make a kick serve. I really think that I wouldn't have learned it, or would have preferred to learn it any other way, thank you! 🎉🎾

Hey Nick, Big fan of your work! Your videos have helped me a lot in developing my game. I am playing high-level competitive tennis and I always look forward to your videos.
I have a decent kick serve but I am comfortable only hitting them toward the middle on the Duece side and out wide on the Ad side. Due to repetitive kick serves at the same angle, I get attacked by my opponents because they know where it will land.
My question is "How can I hit good kick serves out wide on Duece side and down the middle on the ad side." Can you please provide your valuable advice on how to aim a kick serve?
    Looking forward to your comment.
    Cheers!

@@IntuitiveTennis Thanks Nick! I would work on getting comfortable with using slice as second
But I still am unclear about one thing.
Does that mean that a kick serve can not be hit out wide from Deuce & down the middle from ad end?
I know that the serve mechanics are more suitable otherwise but can you please address that.
      Thanks again! ☺️

Hi. I watched your video and i think its good. What will make it even more effective is to have a close up view of the grips and showing the contact path of the racket moving over the ball.

The 3rd step is iffy for me. If I don’t try to jump high enough on a serve, my hip absorbs the shock, which injured my hip. If I jump high enough, my legs naturally absorb the shock, is there a way you could incorporate/explain in your lesson on how to jump high enough to prevent this issue?

Excellent video. I have watched many kick serve videos, including your own from a few years ago, and the progressions is great advice, especially the first tip about choking up on the racquet to get a better feel when making contact. I had not been making any progress on my kick serve and was resorting to tap in serves until i followed these progressions and now at least I think I have got it. The one issue I still struggle with in the transition from the first flat serve to the second kick serve is in adjusting my toss. I find myself out of muscle memory still tossing closer to the 1 o'clock position. If there are any videos on right way to toss to 11/12 o'clock position, that would be appreciated. Thanks again!!

I have a shoulder issue and when I connect with a ball thrown at 11 or 12 o'clock it feels painful. Most directly overhead exercises are painful for me and so I am wondering if I should not hit this serve.

  • @laykefindley6604
    @laykefindley6604 3 ปีที่แล้ว

You seemed to have more kick when you choked up on the racket versus the middle progressions until your final serve motion when the kick came back in. I'm confused on why this is. Any insights?

Ok, so here's my issue. It's the deuce side kick serve. Please demonstrate contact point on it. I tend to hit only T on that particular side whilst hitting the kicker. Cheers.

I really like your videos!!! Some of the very best instruction out there.
This is one where I have a question about your instruction to leave your body silent and not open towards the net during this serve. I am older and so I learned the kick serve from watching and mimicking Stefan Edberg's (thankfully youtube has a few slow mo videos of his serve to watch now instead of the VCR tapes I used back in the day). I do have a very big kick serve that not only kicks high but also far to the right (I'm right handed). But I definitely open my body up before and during impact. And I also grip the racket in an extreme eastern grip (only for the serve). Another characteristic of big kick serves I notice is that the racket on follow through stays on the right side of the body versus crossing over to the left side of the body like you see with most other serve types. Just curious what your thoughts are on these movements. Thanks so much!!!

This is the best drill so far. The roquet should be like for slice or edge more toward head? More twisted?
