  • The Best Video on How to Inspect a Fire Extinguisher.
    • Ensure the extinguisher is visible, unobstructed, and in its designated location. In your home, ensure it’s in a location accessible to you and your family. Never attempt to fight a large fire. The extinguishers are designed to suppress incipient or small fires if it is safe to do so.
    • Verify the locking pin is intact and the tamper seal is unbroken.
    • Examine the extinguisher for physical damage, corrosion, leakage, or clogged nozzle.
    • Confirm the pressure gauge or indicator is in the operable range or position.
    • Make sure the operating instructions are legible and facing outward.
    • Turn the extinguisher upside down to move the dry chemical around. This stops the extinguishing agent from hardening at the base.
    • Initial and date the service tag.
    • Ensure the tag is secured to the unit.
    • Check the last professional service date on the tag. (A licensed fire extinguisher maintenance contractor must have inspected the extinguisher within the past 12 months.)
    Note: A-B-C fire extinguishers can be used to extinguish various types of common fires. If the extinguisher shows any signs of corrosion, dents, damage, or leaks, remove and replace the device.

    This is the shortest but the best I have seen so far. Really need to inspect thoroughly the hose but others just merely look at it rather inspect. In these video by detaching the hose will reveal both ends of any obstruction and the tilting of the hose will loosen any obstruction. Very nice, well done sir, well done. Thank you very much.

    Hey quick question, I noticed that you were able to disconnect the hose without the use of any tools. Should the hose on any extinguisher be only hand tight? What about a CO2 extinguisher?

      Good question. In most cases with ABC extinguishers, manufacturers want you to tighten the coupling by applying a ¼ turn after contact is made with the hose gasket. Regarding CO2 fire extinguishers, the inspection process is different. CO2 types have no gauges, therefore; the unit is weighed to detect any pressure loss. They should be recharged it the weight loss exceeds 10 percent . See, 46 CFR 132.350 - Testing and inspection of fire extinguishing equipment.

    Sir, do ABC type Extinguishers require a refilling every 1 year even if the pressure is in the green zone?

      Saurabh Makkar no they do not. They should be inspected monthly and serviced annually. In some locations the annual servicing has to be completed by a service provider. Here is a link for some additional info www.cintas.com/fire-protection-services/fire-extinguishers.aspx

    What do i do if is on red, what does it mean?

    • @taterjoe5523
      @taterjoe5523 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the needle is on the red, it is empty and needs to be recharged. If it isn’t a rechargeable extinguisher then it would need to be replaced.
