"Leven" means "Life" in Dutch...I wonder what the origin is of the name? Great video again, Clive 👍

Thanks for your comment Frank, as always. The name Leven is an anglicised spelling of the Scots Gaelic word "Líobhainn" which appears on the bilingual station signs, and means "place of the flood". Dictionaries contain variations of the spelling which is often the case with Scots Gaelic.

The coffee shop sounds brilliant. Good on the gent running it. Great to see another line open. A small shame that it couldn't be extended further up the coast on the old line route. Would also have been nice if they could have reinstated the sidings for the distillery and then transported freight on the line. Leven itself has a past with its drinks plant and other industry.

One think that I’ve been wondering is why the new terminus is called Leven. I always assumed the end of the line was Methill. That’s what was shown on Bakers Atlas until it closed completely.

Thanks for your comment. I'm no local expert, but judging from the ordnance survey map it looks like the River Leven is the "boundary" between the two towns. The area seems to be collectively known as Levenmouth, which covers Leven, Methil and surrounding villages such as Buckhaven and Windygates.
