This is a great excuse to practice. Train like the power will be out for days. Train like the water will get up to the door. Train where to evacuate to. Be ready. It is hurricane season after all.
Use Gorilla repair or waterproof tape to keep water out of everything. I live in Southeast Florida with our share of storms. Placed the tape on the bottom and sides on a neighbor's patio door that flooded every time. The tape did its job - 0 water.
I was looking at predictive models on tropical system strengthening and with the speed of the storm and the path it could get to cat 2-3, this is a slow moving storm, lots of potential for development once is gets past Cuba!
Been in Florida for 45 years now and this is the first time I have ever heard the term, "Tropical Cyclone" used. Is this something we have never had before or just an addition to fear factor.
Sustained winds have to be 39+ mph and it has to be more organized than it is to be called a tropical cyclone. And even then the term cyclone really hasn’t been used much if at all when meteorologist are tracking storms and relaying information to the public. A tropical depression is a term we’re more familiar with. It looks like the meteorologist are going to have a new catchphrase for the general public. And you know it’s all due to global warming, right? 😂
@@FreeDom-k2k Meteorology student here. We have always used the term cyclone to refer to organized storms with rotation. It's called a "Potential Tropical Cyclone" before it is named.
There have been several Cat 1 or 2 hurricanes in the gulf that overnight (8-24 hrs) have become dangerous hurricanes (Cat 3-5) Some of those Gulf of Mexico hurricanes were Idalia (Cat 1 to Cat 4 in 24 hrs), Humberto (Tropical Cyclone to Cat 2 in less than 24 hrs), Ida ( Cat 1 to Cat 4 in 24 hrs), Laura (Cat 1 to Cat 4 in 24 hrs).
Hi Rebecca, by my own experience in Miami we had a big surprise with a forecast of a cat 1 hurricane WIlma in 2005, having a similar path than Invest 97L. We ended up getting a cat 3 hurricane which in time was supposed to make landfall a bit north of us, but it didn`t . In my case I d rather wait til that baby becomes better organized and is closer to the U.S. coast to say something more definite about its track, oh by the way you are the prettiest meteorologist I ve ever seen in my whole life, rgs
@user-rc1sn2ut2e People in the comments are so ignorant to downplay storms like this, I remember when Hurricane Dorian almost hit Miami head on until it did a 90° turn to the North. Storms can be very unpredictable sometimes!
I hope that it misses everyone without any loss of life 😥 I hate this time of year, the middle of September will what we will have to watch for, may GOD BLESS AMERICA 😐.
I miss Rebecca B on WJXT4 because she was so proper, professional and elegant! Not a runway model posing with all the giggling! So now I watch this channel from North Florida!!!
A bunch of ignorant fools I see down here in the comments. Never downplay, never underestimate, never disrespect the unpredictable and dangerous moves these types of storms can do. Better safe then sorry if something sudden happens. If nothing bad happens, at least you were prepared, simple..
The cone track is **NOT** consistent with all of the current models as of the recording date/time, nor what the National Weather Service is showing. As you show in the detail track forecast ... it will track to the Northeast across upper Florida peninsula and end up off the coast of NC. So, you need to update your thumbnail, which is very misleading (shows it pointing to the Panhandle).
Potential in my Mind the Possibility But nobody know that for sure we have to wait and see When it become a Hurricane then Sound the Alarm in the Mean time is a Tropical Storm I have been in Tropical Storms in the Miami area is just Torrential rain and a little bit of wind 30 miles that it now 74 75 now you got a Hurricane
@@vega4281 I’m sorry. I was thinking that Ft Myers was further East. My brother is a Deputy Sheriff Captain there. I visited him two years ago. I could get lost in a bathroom at the Mall. Thank you!
The ocean and gulf are too large for a hurricane to lower water temperatures much . Maybe a large hurricane will lower temperatures a couple of degrees. Of course bays and inlets would probably see a bigger difference in temperatures .
