A Southern Gospel Revival: Drew Kennedy - When They Ring Those Golden Bells

- "When They Ring Those Golden Bells" is an old hymn written in 1887 by Dion De Marbelle which has withstood the test of time, remaining relevant even today. Emmylou Harris put this song on her 1987 record "Angel Band” almost 120 years after it was written and now Drew has taken the song and made it his own with his unique voice and incredible arrangement. Drew is a passionate man; this quote taken directly from him sets the tone for his performance. "I love music. I love hearing songs that are intelligent, thought provoking, and honest. They give me hope, and those who wrote them inspire me.”
The roots of Southern Gospel reach back to a time when singing together was a way of life. People would come from miles around to join in song, and be a part of something that was bigger than each individual could ever be on their own. It was a real community of both Faith and music.
As an homage to that community we wanted to create a modern take on traditional Southern Gospel heritage. We asked musicians from a variety of genres, styles and bands to come together for a Revival of Southern Gospel Music.
The recordings are available to watch below and are for sale on iTunes and Google Play starting. All songs were recorded live in single takes with no overdubs and all heart. We hope you love them.

I have to be truthful, I have listen to all of you singing totally buy yourselves throughout youtube for months now and I enjoy your voices. but, when you guys sing together as the Southern Gospel Revival your voices really blend together soooo well. I feel like you have lost a great opportunity to continue singing as this group. I did hear that this was a one time setup and after these 8 or 9 songs were over you never continue singing together. unfortunately, many moons have gone by since those videos were made. just my opinion. See you someday in Heaven

A few weeks before my grandpa passed, he began hearing this song in his head but he thought it was playing aloud. Days later he was hearing all sorts of hymns. Funny cause I don’t remember him listening to hymns. The day he passed, his first cousin had a vision of my grandpa entering the gates of heaven. His mom and aunt greeted him at the gates. What a great grandpa he was.

When I first play this on the piano ,the timely was so hard but I got it . He does a real good job on this song and the moving is his way to keeping timely .

When I was a kid growing up in the Mississippi Delta, once a month or so we would have a Saturday night Gospel sing at our church. The first hour or so was the congregation singing, people would just request songs and we would all sing them, then we would break for supper. Everyone brought something, buckets of fried chicken, pulled pork, home made everything. After that, several amateur groups from all over Mississippi would come and sing and a few families in the church would perform and sing. This music touches my heart and takes me back almost four decades to those Saturday nights. I hope you all get together and do some more. Would love it if you would take a request or two.......

Went to the acoustic jam at the old hotel . We sang 'How Great Thou art ' , twice. The spirit moved us.

We did ours on Wednesday nights, followed up with a Bible study with a great teacher. So special. Food for the soul. Best times.
I wish these people would come together and make another gospel album. I have looked each one of them up and listened to several of their country songs but none of them compare to the work each one did on this album. This album and video are superb.

I love yall's music. I remember Loretta Lynn singing this one. I love these old folk, southern gospel, bluegrass songs. This kind of music bring people to people and all of us to God. It's Biblical. Praise Him with an instrument of 10 strings. Speak to each other in spiritual songs, psalm and hymns, sing and make melody in your heart to the Lord.

If a church in my city had music like this (not too loud), everyone in town would show up, and they wouldn't have to have a special "flag waving squad"...the Congregation would pop up and start dancing in the Lord!....

As far as I know there's no album. There's these 5 or 6 songs on the TH-cam channel recorded in a cool country setting in Texas and that's it. All the songs are fantastic! I especially love the one about take your shoes off Moses, you're on Holy Ground. If you know about an album please share info about it 😀

Just stubbled across looking for an old southern church hymn. The best of the best with a modern but still down to Earth feel. It is comforting and i can listen with mom. For all ages. And such a beautiful young looking group yall are. Older songs are hard to find these days on TH-cam without it being a granny screaming in church thinking she can sing. It would be a blessing if any way yall could sing your version of "winging my way back home" .🙏
