Please keep doing these videos. I have a 2 year old Cane Corso rescue off the street. I'm working with him....trying to. This stuff is helping me SO much. I love my dogs. ❤️❤️❤️
Just got an adorable 10 week old belgium malinois Cross German shepherd amd these videos have helped a ton , she's learnt how to potty and I'm currently doing lurring and teaching her the sit and down positions these videos have helped massively
Roscoe is looking very good now. The trainer is excellent. So glad you found him. Did he train Bernie as welll? You are putting a lot of good stuff into your rottie. Am enjoying watching him grow and prosper.
Zeke kudos to you for not trying to bulk Roscoe up too much. He looks great and well proportioned. Most of all he looks healthy. A lot of people seem to be into these thick, borderline obese dogs. When I see that it just makes me think of health issues for the dog and high vet bills for the owner. I love Rotties. I want to get one for my family. However, I've never owned a dog. But my wife did grow up with a German Shepherd. I do wonder if I am ready for the challenge of a Rottweiler. Your videos make me want to take that leap.
Great video!! I would love to see a video on training dogs to stay close while off leash. Is there a dog trainer certification route you would recommend? Thanks for the tips!
Thank you a lot for great fundamentals lessons! It would be great to know how to teach my dog to stop paying attention on other dogs while training on dog's yard
Emma good point! You can teach the dog to resist as well as yield to the leash. Used in different situations. In this episode we want the dog to stay on the place and using the leash to solidify that a little more.
I agree with Emma. There are plenty of better ways to tempt the dog to break the place command so that you can reinforce it, ones where you don't have to contradict training the dog to respond to leash pressure. So many dog owners struggle to get their dogs to follow the leash. Why undermine that training???
These are the training treats that I use; I get them from Chewy. My dogs love them, so it makes training easier. Also, one treat is only 2 calories if that’s something you would be worried about. I know it’s a popular question. Your pet will love this Zuke's Mini Naturals Rabbit Recipe Training Dog Treats, 1-lb bag:
From what I have seen in another video, you dont really want tension on the leash but you want to shorten your grip on it. Your gonna have a shorter grip on it with no tension, this will keep the dog at your side to insure that your walking them and that they aren't walking you. Eventually with time the dog will learn to walk alongside with you without you having hold the leash with a short grip. Hope this helps in some way. :)
this is actually lesson 6? you mistakenly named it lesson 5 but lesson 5 was posted Published on Jun 27, 2019 and is titled: "DOG TRAINING FUNDAMENTALS: LESSON 5: HEELING POSITION"
because it's unnecessary command.. when you tell dog to sit it shouldn't get up until you release the dog with command.. if i use comand sit i don't want dog to stand up or run away until i say.. so using two commands sit and stay is useless and pointless because dog already knows it should stay in position
So I’m watching hoping to train my dog as well but I’m waiting to see it done without the place cause I don’t think I’ll have one so it’ll be hard for him to know exactly where I want him
You can use anything for a "place". It just helps them to get it faster if it's elevated. (Like a cot or elevated mattress/bed) but it doesn't have to be elevated. Place could just be a folded up blanket, a towel, crate pan, even a upside-down bucket/bowl or frisbee as a "touch pad"/"place". Using a smaller round place rather than a bed type place can be beneficial for future training like pivoting around in place etc.
I recently purchased a ranch and I'm a big lover of Mastiff breeds. Is it possible to keep multiple Male Mastiff breeds together? I'm thinking of getting a Cane Corso, Presa Canario, Boerboel, Spanish Mastiff, Dogo Argentino and Fila Brasileiro for now. I intend to bring them up together as puppies. Please let me know if it is possible to keep these males together?
Dom if they grow up together it should be fairly easy. I have multiple males and have them together, they get along fine. It’s socialization that does the trick.
Talk to the breeders! The temperaments of the parents and other relatives will vary a little even within a breed and can give you some helpful clues as to how your puppy will behave during puberty and in adulthood. Are you planning on neutering or keeping them intact?
@@emmamemma4162 I would prefer not to neuter them but from what I've researched, lot of the aggression goes away but there's still a strong possibility that male dogs will fight or god forbid kill each other. This is what all the articles and blogs say but then I've watched few videos on TH-cam where people have been successful in keeping male dogs together but I've not come across any video where they deal with the breeds that I'm hoping to get.
@@hds_11 I know lots of people that keep intact male dogs together and they never fight, but often they are pack dog breeds, which really makes a difference. If you want to be sure of your males not being sexually aggressive, you should go for early neutering, but that will also affect the growth and possibly health of your dog. It's a difficult decision to make! When talking to breeders, ask if they have more than one intact male and how the males behave when a bitch is in heat. I would consider not having quite as many dogs at once. Mastiffs do not have the longest life-spans so perhaps you could get other breeds when your first dogs pass away.
I think it's for if u bring your dog to a park or a soccer game for example and you don't want them jumping up and running after things or random people, some people would probably rather just hold their leash to prevent them from doing that but a well-trained dog would be able to stay calm and follow directions without the leash. I'm assuming
Duration= how long the dog will hold the position. Distance= how far away from the dog you can go without them breaking the place command. The longer you make the dog hold it and the further you move away, the harder it is for the dog to stay in place.
train everyday, before feeding, don't take too long, i think it depends on the dog, if they like it then continue, but if they are bored then stop. i usually train only about 5-10 minutes, but everyday. so repetition is the key so the dog remembers.
Keep training sessions short. Especially at first. Think 5 mins several times a day. Individual sessions can increase as training progresses and you can hold their attention longer. They will let you know when it is too much by "checking out" but it is best to end the session before that while they are still engaged to keep momentum and engagement. Always try to end on a positive, fun note.
Hi, my name is Ramon, I have a 14months rottie, well socialized since he was 8weejs old. Friendly with dog, kids, people well behave. My question is he will protect from intruders or anybody in street since he is so friendly with everybody. Thanks

Thank you for sharing your training techniques, much appreciated. I unfortunately live on a different continent and far from any experienced dog trainer. Thieves and thugs here, throw poisoned meat over the wall fence into peoples compound in an effort to kill dogs, so they don't have to worry about them, when they enter. My question is: how do I teach my dog ( boerboel ) not to eat anything not given by her family or outside of her dish?
Michelle T yes means you will give the dog a reward. Wether that’s food or tug. Okay is a release when the dog is actively performing a task. The YES marker will also mean a release in many circumstances but the okay will never mean a reward. This is what I think at least
I didn't notice him use "yes," he seemed to be using "okay" as a terminal marker - ending a behaviour to a reward, and "good" as a "keep doing the correct thing". Different markers for different kind of behaviours. Using "yes" to mark the exact moment a dog does the desired behaviour eg, teaching a dog to bark on command. Good for freeshaping and luring into a behaviour.

Are there any specific training tips for German Shepherds?

What's a ballpark figure for this type of training?
Amazing work. I'm a bit confused by the leash pulling though. Isn't it good to teach the dog to go with the leash?
Emma good point! You can teach the dog to resist as well as yield to the leash. Used in different situations. In this episode we want the dog to stay on the place and using the leash to solidify that a little more.
Emma hope that makes sense. If it doesn’t I can try to better explain.

How often should I have training sessions with my dog?
Why don't you utilize "stay" as a marker?

because it's unnecessary command.. when you tell dog to sit it shouldn't get up until you release the dog with command.. if i use comand sit i don't want dog to stand up or run away until i say.. so using two commands sit and stay is useless and pointless because dog already knows it should stay in position
