Now THIS is what I've been waiting for! I was really hoping you filmed Michigan Ave at night, and I'm so happy that you did. I really liked this a lot (I'm a sucker for skyline views and activity on city streets), and the quality and editing was top notch as always. Thank you so much for this! Favorited.
+Freewayjim: I just discovered your channel. What a great concept. It's simple, yet brilliant. I grew up in Chicago but left the city in 1987 to take a job in Seattle. I've gotten back to Chicagoland only very rarely in the years since. Your videos of the Kennedy and Dan Ryan took me back in time almost 30 years. This "Michigan Ave. at Night: Chicago, IL" video has me feeling like I need to call my mother. Thanks for the great work.
Excellent! Arguably one of my top 10 favorite streets in America. The "Magnificent Mile" is appropriately named, although in reality, there are dozens of city streets in Chicago that are truly "magnificent" in their own right. Excellent soundtrack to boost, too. Another favorited video.
I walked along Michigan Avenue from the Apple Store to 900 N Michigan. It was one of the most amazing walks I have ever done. Chicago has a lot more than Milwaukee will ever obtain.
I'm moving to Chicago next year for college. I'm going to Roosevelt University which can be seen on the left at 1:18. I can't wait! I love it so much there!
Love this video!!! Ive driven up and down michigan ave so many times i cant even count!! Its an awesome street!! Lots of traffic, lots of honking!!! LOVE IT!! :D Thanks for posting! Hope you enjoyed the "windy city"
This is my "getaway at the end of the day" video, relatives are irritating today and so im sittin up in bed and have wii steering wheel and i know it so ridiculas for a grown guy to do it but i sit here and its like im behind the wheel enjoying driving thru chicago, irritations just melt away, perfect lyrics! and I actually sleep better at night after 'a drive'. bless u jim
Right before you reached Randolph, on the right is Millennium Park home to concerts, special events and most important, Chicago newest big tourist attraction ¨The Bean!¨ or by its real name Cloud Gate.
@ 1:52: Here's another fact to know about Michigan Ave, It's true that it was US Route 14, The southern terminus of the route was on Adams St and Jackson Blvd. Both of these one-way streets was better known as the Historic US Route 66. Adams Street went westbound, and Jackson Blvd went eastbound.
Although not mentioned, before it was US 14, except for the Chicago River bridge alignment before 1920, the entire length of Michigan Ave shown in your clip was the Yellowstone Trail (mid 1910s-1930). See their website for more on that early-20th century transcontinental 'auto trail', a 'sister' to the more well-known Lincoln Highway.
I have to admit that you post some of the most magnificent and encapsulating videos about driving in Chicago. As a matter of fact, I would say that very few videos on TH-cam come close to the quality and informative value of the vids you post. Just one minor thing: the captions on the bottom, while I THANK you very much for including& encourage to to continue using, could stand to be a little smaller. They take away, albeit briefly, from the magnificent footage.
@shysterlicious Thanks for the kind words and the constructive feedback. I can see your point, I've ben told by some people in instructional design to err on the side of making it easier to read. Yes it may block a little more space than we'd like but small print is irritating in a different way. I keep the text up for 4.5 seconds in most cases so with that in mind I felt the slightly larger text was justified. I try not to place text bands at important places as it is. Thanks for watching.
@videowilliams I get that "sophisticated" feeling from Boston, as well, and to a lesser degree S.F. and N.Y. But man, Chicago is just a world-class metropolis. And the good thing is that it keeps getting better and better. The new architectural additions have been fantastic. It's a shame they won't build the Chicago Spire, what with the global downturn. I understand it would have been the second tallest building in the world! I wasn't a fan of the style, but brother, it would've been impressive.
What song are you talking about? if it's the intro music, that's not a real song, just a royalty free loop. The info for the song used in the video is in the closing credits.
Thanks! As for driving, I was only there on a Saturday but traffic was really bad in places, especially the Kennedy Expressway inbound, it was bad in the afternoon and evening.
I will be sure to wave to you next time you cruise by...My home and I can't imagine living anywhere else. Having a condo on Michigan Ave is pretty close to perfect...Its NYC without the attitude...Be sure to come in the summer when we have all of the festivals in Grant Park...well done FWJ!!!
HighwayJim..you do a great job of capturing the real essence of our city, just wanted to say that! Also, when you crossed Michigan at the river, it's really something to see without Trump Tower there.
@CosmoPhotography Well the tunnels in Boston really made that video special IMO but considering what I had to work with in Chicago, it did come out well.
Where do I find that song? Whats the title and who is the artist? love it. btw to the DetroitTigersFan, you obviously don't frequent Chicago very much. lol....Detroit???? now that's the pot calling the kettle black.
Excellent video and great choice of music. I have a question though, is it true that driving in Chicago is a nightmare? Or do people exaggerate the difficulty of driving through Chicago?
For comic book fans, Chicago is truly the World's Finest city - in recent years, it has served as both Gotham City (in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight) and Metropolis (the upcoming Man of Steel).
UPDATE: As of March 2021, the use of the Chicago skyline has expanded into TV's Arrowverse, serving as the backdrop for both Batwoman and Superman & Lois.
Yet another reason Chicago is the greatest city on earth! Great song too!
The Paris of the USA. Nothing beats Chicago.
I Love Chicago, and i hope come back very soon!

One night? Son you need to get back up there! What about the double deck streets downtown. You got to do them. You should do a month in Chicago.
Right before you reached Randolph, on the right is Millennium Park home to concerts, special events and most important, Chicago newest big tourist attraction ¨The Bean!¨ or by its real name Cloud Gate.

Thanks for watching, glad I could help you relax.
I like the drive up from South Lake Shore all the way past the top of North Mich. It's one of my favorite views of the night skyline.
@CosmoPhotography Thanks, glad you liked it, stay tuned for the next video, "Overdrive" on the Dan Ryan and Kennedy expressways.

Greatest city just look at it.
This coming from a Detroit fan?
@ScrewdUPClickV2 A lot of that park area was made from landfill after the Great fire in 1871, no doubt Chicago has a lot of park area.
I wouldn't say hopping, but its not bad. Impressive architecture certainly
@0marigolds Thanks, Chicago may be the best lit city I've driven in.
@Freewayjim: Whoops, didn't realize I was posting from my other account, lol.

@mgk920 Good tidbit, I did see that in my research but I was worried about "talking" too much during the video :)
