I did the cxracing kit myself and the manifold cracked after my first dyno tune. they replaced the manifold but it took a week of them dicking me around. decent kit overall for the money though. if I did it again I'd go flying miata.
Mike G Silva bro I deleted the bov on my turbo car flutter is so much better . Also turbos don’t last forever mind as well get what you want out of it and the sound you desire.
I think that this USA "trip" is pretty good for you. U get to learn more on miatas and be with friends who u see very rarely. Awesome dude! Cant wait til u get back to japan
Imagine the content if sammit had his own garage "work shop" back in Japan in stead of his drive way. Yashio factory is cool and all too. but who ready to see him make some big upgrade
To truly bed in the rings, run it under a moderate load on the dyno for about an hour before you do full power runs. No need for 500km etc. dump the run oil after the dyno run in before the power runs.
On one hand, your perfectionism increases the time it takes to get anything done, on the other hand, the end result is miles ahead of what Rudnik tends to come out with. Personally, I would be honored to win that car and would cherish it (and rip it, of course). You have put so much love and attention into that car that it is almost a work of art. Nobody would put that much effort and attention to detail into a car they're not going to keep.
Part of me does not want to see this build end...every morning/day is like a box of chocolates with the Miata...just don't know what we are going to get! It is an epic build and bodes well for future content from Sam! More Power!
Chris has mentioned Harvey the welder on his channel a few times but it was nice to actually get to "meet" him. Seems like a cool guy and does good work.
Hey Sam the build is going well I got my entry. That door handle problem is just a loose screw in the inside of the door take the door panel off you’ll see it put some lock tight and screw it back in I’ve had to do the same on my miata
High idle is just tune related, do some couch tuning start researching closed loop idle on megasquirt. Typically Miata related info is better but most engines work on the same principle. Also don't mess with the idle screw leave it and tune the idle. If you have AC also you're going to need to wire in AC-Idleup or use a really well made closed loop that adjusts for the load of accessories. I would assume Jack knows more then me though, my CLI on my ms2 99 Miata is decent enough. Just keep working, build is sick!!
Congratulations! It's running! I highly respect that you can all do that... quite a difference to Streetspeed 717 who just buys stuff and services and drives it... :D
In terms of the idle, the idle duty cycle on the ecu isn't set correctly, youll probably find that all idle setting are going to be out and possibly the tps needs calibration, not sure if jack did that or not when he got it to start
I’m surprised nobody recommended Sam gets a different turbo kit for the Miata rather than the CX Racing one. I’m so glad I bought merch and was able to contribute to this build because even if I don’t win this was such great content and you worked really hard for this. Keep up the great vids Sam!
I replace the water hose from the back of the head to the radiator with one that moss miata sells,. A little expensive, but perfectly cleared the rubbing with the throttle assembly. *Coolant hose for reroute kit by cobalt*.
I've heard from a few sources even with new motor mounts on the na's the engine moves around alot. I think shart cart was the first time I heard that. Maybe an aftermarket engine torque damper?
If the rotating assembly was balanced it should run silky smooth. Looks like it's gonna be a sweet motor! Excited to see how rudnicks turns out and how rushed he throws it together once he gets it. You know he's gonna pull all nighters when he does lol
my buddy blew up his china charger very quick, he was pushing it hard is it would go to be fair but he didnt want to buy another just for it to blow up again but also didnt have the money for a nice turbo so we got a garret rebuild kit for the equivalent size turbo and everything worked perfect, hes still running it today.
Let's go the miata is fully alive and im excited for tomorrow video because it will run on the dyno im hyped than sammit HAHAHAHA but yeah keepsafe everyone
The IAC duty cycle map just needs to be tuned on the megasquirt. All you need to do is tell it what RPM you want to run at depending on your engine temp.
Hellyeah Sam great work Hey I noticed the tape over the airbag light, quick fix, go under the dash on the drivers side and unplug 2 blue boxes and remove the bulb from the gauge cluster
@@awesomecooly123 I haven't bought a full kit so I can't comment on that, but their turbos are pretty great for what you pay. I've had one of their turbos on my e30 for the past 4 years and its held up well. I daily it and beat the piss out of it. It has 212k miles and has been driven across the country. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. 320 wheel hp on all stock internals with just headstuds. Anyone else who hasn't bought any of their stuff can't complain.
mistuman that’s false lol. They have some cheap junk yes, but stuff like their manifolds are actually rather good 98% of the time now. Their turbo’s are better than most other “eBay” Chinese produced turbo’s and their fitment is usually good. That’s to be expected though with any mass production kit like them. They make kits for almost any car/engine and sell hundreds of thousands lol
TWO OPTIONS for your waste gate bracket 1) make a piece to connect the old turbo mounting hole and bracket hole with a bolt&nut 2)you bust out the welder and weld an extension on the waste gate bracket and use two bolts.
If you don't want to run the bov, just put a small piece of aluminum between the gasket and the bov so you dont have to make a plate. You can just use a tin can or something
I was taught that you never let a freshly rebuilt engine idle that you have to vary the loads for the rings to properly seat but idk it could just be a myth I also was taught to put atf on the piston rings to aid with seating as well but hey there is a million ways to do everything what's important is that it runs good 🤟
I love the videos and SAMMIT but this is 100% why I would get either ffab9 or flying Miata kit. Yea we all know their way more expensive but imo so worth it. I would hate these headache the cheap turbo kit provides
My dad has built over 300 engines in his life and he always puts cardboard in front of the radiator and let it get to 220 degrees and pull the cardboard out and let it cool down a few times and that will break in the camshaft and rings then he would run it for a bit then change the oil and filter and tell the owner to change it again within 500 miles or after 4 pulls on the dragstrip
Also, try locking the door before you close. It auto unlocks to prevent you from locking your keys inside. So all you Miata guys and gals, make sure you lock from the outside with the door closed or you car won't actually be locked if you have manual locks. Not sure about electric locks or NB's in general.
I like the old mechanical solutions to those kind of issues. On my bug if you lock it from the inside you have to pull the lever on the handle when you close it or it will unlock so it can't happen accidentally
Heat cycle does not seat the rings. And neither does 500 miles. Put it on a dyno hold it at 50 % throttle for a minute or so and let off for a few seconds and do it again for about 15 minutes and then do it at 70% throttle and then change the oild and ur ready to do ur power pulls on dyno. I have a performance engine building Certification

This will be the cleanest build to ever happen in that shop
Also probably the car most built of ebay parts so clean yea reliable we will see
I doubt ruddy will be able beat this build lol
Cxracing added a line to their turbo kit description, it either says no cuts required or cuts required after your video went up haha

Cardboard on the floor helps with checking for leaks, especially with a dirty floor.
Just a heads up bro.. as he car cools down and you have no overflow with coolant in it youre going to introduce air into the system again.
