due to drought, heat and grubs my lawn looked horrible. i had to figure this out since i am tired of digging up bad grass. I found Doc's channel and watched countless video's. The turnaround my yard has experienced is nothing short of amazing and i expect it to only get better. Thank you Doc for what you are doing. I love the comments from people walking by. I wish I could post before and after pictures here. I also put Dirt Booster in my raised garden bed, and DAMN! Great results.
Same here. I live in south Texas and learned a lot from watching his videos around the same time. I have the greenest yard on the block every growing season and get compliments ALL the time.

Hey Doc! I’m in San Antonio and summers are brutal. I have done the short watering cycle and it works. We have tiftuff Bermuda so it does tolerate heat well but constant triple digits can stress it out. Your suggestion definitely works! As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

His farm now: we’re along for the ride of what the man wants to do and what makes him happy. Its different now. The channel has changed. The lawn advice from 2018 still applies. Grass hasnt changed. Just enjoy it.
I’ve been following Doc for 4’years now and I have learned so much from him. The channel has changed due to the new residence but he is still applying the same rules. As you said @MrGermany18, grass doesn’t change! I swear by the Anderson products and I even have screenshots of all the products I use with bullet points as to their purpose, how to use, etc., including cost, and place them in binders and hand them out to people who ask questions and motivated to spruce up their lawn! Just spreading Doc’s wealth of knowledge. 🏆 My husband jokes and tells people that I hold class in the garage on Saturdays. 😜
Doc - I need to use a long distance sprinkler - 100 ft - I remember you mentioning a website for sprinklers? Request posting the link. Thank Sir and learning a lot from your channel.
I was about to say the EXACT same thing! My neighbor got a citation and a court hearing for watering on a non-watering day here in San Antonio. So, it's once a week watering for me; about 30 minutes for each zone (2 split 15 minute sessions to avoid run off). I wish we could water earlier than 7am too. I think the time restrictions here are ridiculous as well.
@amadorivasphotography474 yeah I had SAWS come out and do an audit on my system, they recommended 3x 10 minutes to prevent run off. Drought rules suck.
I'm in New Braunfels and have the greenest yard on the block. I only water every Friday morning/evening on my designated watering day and I learned about using humic DG and hydretain from Doc about 4 years ago. I will die on this hill defending the products, it's a game changer for us south Texans.
Doc, I pre germinated Monaco for 8 days in the bucket, spread the seeds yesterday and just now looking with the flashlight there are grass blades EVERYWHERE, I put down lots of dirt booster down as well and used humichar as my carrier for the wet seeds, dirt is BLACK lol I waited until the top layer of Monaco started germinating. Wow grass blades in 1 day, was 95 F today.
Thank you for the inspiration , I'm in the process of trying to repair a old and neglected Bermuda lawn. I'm fairly certain this is common Bermuda. It hasn't been touched in a decade or more. Just left to it's own devices. I've sprayed weed killer twice ( mix of Certainty and Celcius) and just put down biochar. I'm wondering at what height I should be mowing this grass. It's currently under 1 inch and doesn't seem to be growing much. Should I just leave it to grow for a couple of weeks? Thanks for all the great info on Bermuda.
I am in Myrtle beach SC with cool season grass. I set my irrigation to 7 minutes each zone starting at 3:30 am everyday. Let’s see how this works. It’s looking good except it’s browning where a tree was removed. Hand watering that area too. Thanks!
I'm in Houston, Texas. This year I finally had my irrigation system put in. My system starts at 3:00 a.m. everyday and I usually water 5 minutes per Zone. So far so good!
I have perennial rye in central CA- no rain since March, steady 90-100 degree heat. I water in the morning then another short cycle around 3:00pm my lawn is staying green. Tried the deep and in frequent method but it did not work for my climate.
Doc, Aside from heat stress from my neighbors window reflecting the sunlight in a rectangular patch on my zoysia,I just discovered that there is some gravel and rock about 2 inches below my zoysia where it’s been turning yellow (over the past two years during the hottest part of summer) I’m guessing because of the heat that heats up the rock takes away the moisture? And the grass area is about 6‘ x 6‘ area. What’s the best way of trying to get the gravel dug out from under it without destroying my yard?
Hi Doc, I’m knew to your channel and for the first time, I have Bermuda grass. I live in middle Tennessee and my grass has only been in the ground since August 2023. It was planted by the builder and it’s never really looked super good. Do you provide a plan that I can download on how to care for my Bermuda grass. We do get plenty of rain, and now in the middle of a drought and my grass is crunchy and burnt. I’d like to get on a schedule so that in future years, I’m in front of it with grass that is well feed and looks good. What should I do during this summer to begin having a healthier Bermuda lawn. Thanks so much for your advice and great videos. Thank you!!
Using the Yukon in Oklahoma and its been 100 degrees and I am watering at 9pm and 9 am . Using a reg Honda mower cutting about one inch still have a lot of dead grass under the green …. Been fertilizing with weed and feed maybe it’s killing weeds under but it looks like some dead hybrid mixed in. Think I am not going to use that stuff anymore . See if it helps .
Have you heard of sundancer buffalo grass? Saw a old video asking about suggestions and throwing it out since you are planning to convert to yukon Bermuda atm. Anyways thanks for the confirmation on light and frequent water in drought, its nothing but the opposite for the general rule of thumb with no mention of what to do in extremes.
Doc, I'm trying to convert my Tall Fescue here in Mooresville, NC to Zenith Zoysia. My front yard has almost ZERO shade and it is StRuGgLiNg HARD. how short would you mow it to make sure the zoysia pops through? 1", 2", 3"??? Also, do you have a drought watering schedule like your fert. schedule on your website?
Doc, here in southern Pa it’s been very dry. Finally got rain last night from the storms moving in. Any recommendations how to eliminate voles from damaging the lawn? They have been chewing up the lawn constantly. I have it short and tried many products but it don’t seem to work. Plus with the dog I don’t wanna use the poison stuff.

Hey Doc. What do you recommend for a mixed lawn of Fescue and Bermuda for cutting height and watering in this Georgia heat? The Bermuda was in really bad shape & had a ton of very large bare spots, so I threw down fescue seed to get something to grow and let them battle it out. Now the lawn is full, but the Bermuda is way too tall, but if I cut the fescue shorter, it’s going to die.

Wouldn't the opposite be true for survival ... let it go long and survive on less water out of necessity?
