I love your style of storytelling, I just wish I could show your videos in class lol. There is more to the story you may not have heard. During the surrender at Yorktown, Cornwallis couldn't bring himself to attend the ceremo personally, so he sent an underling named O'Hara in his place. The American soldiers stood on one side of the aisle, the French oncthe other, with the British soldiers walking down the middle. The British soldiers were facing the French side, trying to ice out the Amwricans. The Marquis de Lafayette, aggravated at the disrespect, ordered his band to play "Yankee Doodle" as a parting slap to the British and force them to instinctively turn and face the Americans
4:25 - Just to clear up any confusion, it was independence. And we totally stuck it to King George. But we still love you all the way from across the pond.
I'm so glad I found your channel. It is very interesting. The idea to look for this content was a conversation with my kid about the history of knick knack paddy whack rhyme. So interesting we've looked at 3 videos one after the other. Down side was some cussing, if you can avoid it you've got a gem of first class work for a family to enjoy together. Your story telling personality is captivating enough you don't need those words.
Yo I love these videos of yours im going to show these to my kids. And to all the people worrying about the cursing... you know darn well your kids are hearing it in school and other entertainment forums. This chap actually pretty tame
I homeschool and wish I could show this to my kids! You do a great job at story telling! 😁 But… being a conservative family… I really don’t want my 7 year old to hear all the cussing. I guess I could memorize where the words are and yell to cover them up. 😂
If you are a American when you sing the Yankee doodle song, you are actually talking to yourself and your country. In a mean way the song first started when the British killed the other states so they made the song Yankee doodle. Then the Americans won a war against the British now they were their own country and they took over the song Yankee doodle and play some of the words.
I like how you are talking about how words have changed in history. I was thinking about letting my kids watching your videos, but I heard you cussing. It would be nice if the newer videos could not have words that are considered cussing. I can tell you want the atmosphere to be laid back. I think you have talent and I hope you don't take it the wrong way. Thank you for making videos on history to help people understand.
Just came across this channel yesterday and am currently going through the catalogue from oldest to newest after subscribing. Read some of the comments here and just wanna say please do not stop the profanity. I'm so damn tired of everything being censored and whitewashed. Hell, most of these nursery rhymes really warrant it with just how dark they are.
I have a theory "Yankee's" was a British term for Yanker's or wankers?? So then, what's a "doodle"? LOL! And we know what a "dandy"refers to in some cases. Thus when American colonist sailors showed up in England, and into the "dating pool" , competing with Local British, the locals would refer to them as Yankees. SO, the American's who had no idea of this insult, decided to embrace to term, and ultimately name their favorite Baseball team after this. What do ya think?
Yankee is the term used for the original local settlers of the 13 colonies. Now covers all Americans, typically used as a derogatory term for someone of lower class, no manners, dirty, etc. A Doodle is a fool or an idiot. Dandy is the term for a “meticulously” well dressed man. Roughly translated, the song says, “This country fool came along on a pony, not a horse! And he thought that merely sticking a feather in his hat would turn him into a suave, sophisticated, aristocrat like a European. What a rube!" Lol I was trying to explain this to my kids and decided to TH-cam it for them. My oldest looks at me and says, “he tells a story just like you. But you’re more grumpy about it.” Lol I told him that why I don’t make TH-cam videos.
Believe it or not, we Americans did it again but with a word during the war on terror. In the Middle East, soldiers were insulted and called Infidels. So we put that word on T-shirts, stickers, hats and marketed it. We turned an insult into profit.
Mexico also defeated a undefeated French army. Unfortunately they never really obtained civil rights for the majority! Mostly Natives take down a French Army.. th-cam.com/video/tX6-gQGKm40/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fITRlORPdXkkXgES

His expressions while explaining all this just crack me up. Enjoyed this video!
😁 Cheers!
I enjoy his style of telling the story with a bunch of asides that begin with "i think..."

Thank you! Nothing wrong with a little bit of both :)
Thanks for the video, you reminded me I've got leftover macaroni and cheese to eat.
The fairy tale histories are interesting, but his American History lessons are even better!

The drunkenness is what gets me into it

Hi True Rhyme can you read I Had a Little Nut Tree please
We also did this to the south in our civil war, we took the Dixie song and made our own diss track against the confederate traitors.
FYI: Not safe for kids, folks!

Dude came from the word doodle same meaning
@@elysium76 LOL! That's true. "He's a Yanker" or "Yankee"
You know what they say. "If your going to insult me, at least do it right" merica
It's crazy that a "patriotic song" is a complete joke on the Americans. Every word is a insult

The term "decimated" the new de rigueur for "destroyed". Decimation is not destruction.
JD Vance's "childless cat ladies" comment is the new "Yankee Doodle". An insult-turned-term-of-political-empowerment.
Believe it or not, we Americans did it again but with a word during the war on terror.

We turned an insult into profit.
Yankee Doodle was a joke in the war but usa beat Britain 😀 (learned that in music class 3rd grade)
