    A strong air chisel is a must for working on rusty, crusty, nasty stuff. Didn't know about this one. Thanks! (The spring thingy sucks)

    Get full air connectors. Normal connectors do not allow maximum air. You want the Thor experience

      Exactly my thoughts, not enough air coming through, and 'big nasty' needs some!

    Astro made some new bits this year, after we users began whining about no long reach bits in the 498 size. There is a flyer with the new long bits on the Astro website. I had a long Mahew 0.498 that seemed to work, but I had to grind the lip profile quite a bit. Astro make their own set of bits for standard size as well. The problem is in the lip profile of the bits, not the quick lock adapter from Astro. Lately I've been swapping my air adapter on each tool to a high flow Milton V style adapter. You need one Milton V style female adapter on the end of the air hose. In my experience it will play nice with high flow OR the older style we all use, so I only swapped hi flow for the devices that suck a lot of air.

      I ended up putting 4 small vertical grooves in one of those bits with a grinder, to get it passed the bearings. Worked very well.

    I have the 498K Thor Hammer and same Astro Quick Release chuck. Also same set of 4 Mayhew bits that work fine with it. The locking sleeve needs to go all the way back and the balls will fully retract. The sleeve may catch a little and requires good pressure to compress the spring but it works fine.
    This is one very potant hammer !

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to grind 4 small vertical grooves in the bits. They refunded my money for all of them, because one broke. I sharpened it, and broke again. I don't think they tempered one of them right. Sweet hammer though.

      @@RustBeltAuto I have two of Astro 49801 Quick Change as I believe you have. The sliding sleeve must be pulled all the way back until it meets the shoulder of the mount hub. The balls will 100% retract leaving a clear .900" tunnel for the .850" bit shoulder. If not, I think your Quick change may be defective.

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  ปีที่แล้ว

      @jimbode it must be. I took everything apart, and could not see anything out of the ordinary. The bearings go all the way into the groove, and they still stick out a little. Almost as if the groove for the bearings were not cut deep enough.

    Try screwing that quick chuck in with the bit to the point where it allows you to quick connect and disconnect the bits , than secure the quick chucks Allen bolts to the hammer . I would think the Allen bolts are for fine quick chuck adjustments but I could be wrong.

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea. No. That chuck has a couple problems with it. The bearings fall all the way in the grooves, and it is not enough. The threads are a plastic insert, and the screws don't stay tight, and fall out. I'm still using it, but it's just wrong.

  • @mritron7649

    You can get an adapter sleeve to use the smaller air hammer bits in the bigger air hammer. Make sure it's a good brand because they can break with the power of that big hammer

    • @RustBeltAuto
