I've got a few messages asking if the problem is with the packs/ESC/motor, and no, that's not the issue. It's purely down the the kv of the motor being too low, so as the pack voltage drops, the required RPM cannot be sustained. It's completely normal, and is addressed by increasing the pinion size or getting a higher kv motor.

If headspeed is not being maintained Rich then you're hitting 100% PWM output of the ESC, with no further headroom to govern to the target. At 8.88 ratio, you should be able to maintain 2100 whislt still having PWM headroom at the end of the flight (ish). How well your governor holds headspeed depends on the type of gov in use, the health of the packs, your pitch setup, and your thumbs ;). Going down in gear ratio (motor kV stays same but pinion increases in teeth) whilst keeping the same headspeed "usually" means you motor is working harder as it is typically running a less efficient average PWM output, so ESC gets hotter, and losses tend to increase. However, if you were previously running at too high a headspeed for the setup you had/pinion you had, then moving up a tooth and keeping the same headspeed as before might have actually made your setup more efficient! With your previous pinion, I'd say a 2000 headspeed would be an optimum target. Just my thoughts, nice vid 👍

@@andytuscrr You're right on the money. The start PWM was too high, something like 87 on the small pinion, so hitting 100 very early in the flight. On the bigger pinion the start PWM was low 80s I think, much better.
I've ordered the 550kv version of the egodrift 4530HS to try with the smaller pinion. Not sure I'll see enough of a difference, but good to know.

Awesome flying Richard !! I’ve found the calcs to be alittle off myself.
How long have you been flying Helis ?

Must be about 15 years with a few life breaks here and there. Thank you

Looks good, probably need to tweak the tail setup too😂

    Good going Mate.
I'm wanting LHS on my Dnamic. Going to try a 15 tooth pinion on my setup. (6S)
Im wanting the motor & esc to be happy.

Oo, that Dnamic is nice. I had a go on one last weekend. It felt very different to a regular heavy 12S, and took a flight to get used to, but he was also flying Spartan though.

Unless you're sport flying I'd go 8s minimum 4500mah that's what I run in my dnamic, 6s won't have the power to sustain the loads of constant 3D flight
