Diode test: If you look at page 32 of the manual, the diode test is rated for "Open circuit voltage: about 1.5 V". It looks like it's designed for plain silicon or germanium diodes (forward voltage about 0.7V or 0.2V), not LEDs that have a substantially higher forward voltage. Your test LEDs were measured to have forward voltages of 1.8V - 2.6V, well above the 1.5V the meter claims it can measure.

Thanks for the info / detail Henry!

I have discovered why the diode function doesn't work.
I measured the open circuit voltage at the probes of this meter for the diode and continuity tests at 1.498V.
Information I had previously read on the web for this and similar meters, says around 5.0 Volts for the diode test, however my findings are completely in accord with the meters quoted printed specification voltage, which states .... "about 1.5V"..... (The web information is incorrect).
The meter is therefore not faulty, but working completely as intended.
Most LED's require at least 2.2Vf to illuminate, so the test voltage and current applied by this meter is not enough to overcome the forward junction potential, so the diode will not conduct.
Light emitting diodes can therefore not be reliably tested with this particular meter.

Great review, Ape. I appreciate you walking through all of the features and taking it apart. I’m with you on the fuse situation. Weird that the diode test failed, too. I saw an Auto label - I assume it auto ranges on resistance at least.

Thanks Jim. I think that something must be wrong for this particular meter to fail that test. Yes, it’s is auto-ranging which is a cool feature in my book. Thanks for watching 👍

#Teamreplay FTW. Not bad for $52. That display is jam up. Kind of a bummer about the diode test. I just bought a new meter to supplement my Harbor Freight meter of a certain age. I got a Proskit MT-5211, which is one of the meters I see Electroboom using everytime he lights himself up. :) Pretty cool that it has a scope in it....imagine...just sayin.

@@TheSmokinApe I have a couple generic ones that’s still hanging on to life, but I would like one that beeps like y’all fellas always use on the videos lol. I would almost consider the one in your video because of the stand it has!

Great review, is it possible to use Ni-Mh rechargeable 1,2 volts instead alkaline type?

I have the newer version of this same meter and had the same results trying to test LED's. I did test a normal diode fine but not the LED. All of my other multimeters could test the LED in diode mode except for this meter and my Hantek scope/DMM which also failed to test an LED. Strange!

    • @TheSmokinApe
      @TheSmokinApe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I just think the forward test voltage is low in these meters. Thanks for checking out the video Bruce...

Thank you for the informative video.
To measure batteries i have to measure volts and ohms at the same time. Can the device do this?
Is it also possible to specify limit values/tolerances?

I do not th8nk this device can do that, glad you liked the video 👍

I bought one from banggood a long time ago and right out of the box the meter had problems every time I would hit one of those rubber buttons it would get stuck and jammed inside. I'd have to pry it back out. I contacted banggood, and all they wanted to do was give me a $5 credit towards my next purchase. So I never ordered from them again. I still have the meter but I've never used it since then because of the issue.

I have the same unit. Nothing special but good for testing second hand generator if you are worried about the sinewave and voltage fluctuations/ spikes. I tested my pure sinewave inverter and compared to 240 volt household. Inverter was perfect. ( Giandel) 1700 watt RMS. 3400 watt peak for 15 seconds. Capacitance in mine never worked! If the MUSTOOL 8207 or 8208? I'd rather either of those. Cheers.

I am 71 years old and have bought a lot of meters, and seen green horns blow up a hundred of them ohms/voltage type hook up, most meters are close in calibration. I use Simpson, but I do have one of these coming and maybe it might come in handy in a time of what is called a brown out by using the wave form to see which side is out, but at 71 years old it cant break me so why not try it, LOL

    Money out the window.
No way to change the amplitude?
    The cardiogram was basically unmeasurable?
    No readings on the diodes.
    Damn.
