Make Fabric Buttons | With NO kit or machine | Fast, Easy, Simple Tutorial

Save money and make fabric buttons with no kit or machine. This simple method will help you create the perfect matching fabric button in just a few minutes. After you are finished you can attach the buttons using the same holes. This method also works well for shank buttons.

SUPPLIES
========
- any size button - this method words with flat buttons and even buttons with a shank at the back. (just gather around the shank)
- scrap of fabric
- ruler
- hand needle and strong thread
- small amount of polyester fill

How do you attach them... do you use the "buttons holes"?

Great question! I should have shown that. Yes you can just go through the holes. You do have to poke around a little to find the position the first time but once you've done the first stitch the rest are easy. You can also use a button with a shank and have that poking out the back. Thanks for watching :)

Watched a few of these videos now and all great but need a little finessing. I originally was lookin for an alternative to the kit as i do have the metal buttons but not the rubber thingie. Came in box of notions I bought at thrift. First will say it never occurred to me to use a button, either shank or flat button. My mother taught me to use cardboard but we also made a backing slightly bigger and wind the thread around a little point you pull out. Can be done similarly with the shank button. Sew a backing on to catch thread ends. Hmm I may make something similar to those yo-yos? Flower thing, slit up the back, insert button. I have a video camera but never used it yet. Sorry for jumping on your video. I think so great the young are sewing again. Keep sharing skills. I plan on opening a little studio local in my retirement town.

HI! I love your tutorial. Here are my questions :) Firstly I adore buttons! Here is a thought...some of my buttons are small, but I would like to make large ones, as I am making hats and I love the bold, big look of a button adornment. What about your process, but not on a "button" itself, but something with a good resilience, like a plastic lid or something cut to the size "button" I would like? Then using the "yo-yo making" (the style of sewing you show) to close the fabric chosen around the "button" and TADA...a new, big bold button!?? What do you think?

This was a clear and helpful video. But how do you attach the button to the fabric?

The strongest way is to sew through the holes as you normally would. Because the fabric covers the top you just have to stab to find them for the first stitch. The other way to do it is to sew through the bottom like you would for a shank button. Thanks for watching.
