    Great comparison. I prefer the nux. The distortion sound of the valeton is more thin than the nux to my ears. The nux is more dark.

    I'm mostly interested on the looping function, since my amp has IR's on its own.
    Which one would be better for looping purposes??

  • @Case_
    @Case_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    It probably doesn't matter after all this time, but in case it's relevant to someone watching the video - the AC30 comparison is a bit unfair here, since it's using a different amp/channel for each of the units. MG300 only has the top boost channel of the AC30, so the appropriate counterpart to that on the Valeton would be the Foxy 30TB amp, not the Foxy 30N that is used here. I believe it's the same with the IR comparison video, but here the difference is more pronounced I think.
    Thanks for both this and the IR comparison for both, helped me to decide between the two units tremendously (went with the Valeton because of features, and I'm not regretting it so far - even if the Nux has a somewhat better sound, it's not that big of a deal for me, especially if IR's come into the mix).

      @@accentontheoff I'm still reasonably happy with it, but it has to be said that for various reasons, I sadly had little time for guitar the past two years, so not sure how relevant that opinion even is. Also I wouldn't consider myself someone who's constantly struggling to improve their sound via new gear. The most disappointing part of my setup still tend to be my hands ;)

    Somewhere in the chain with the NUX is giving this cocked wah sound. Some kind of weird filtering I bet could be fixed, maybe in the output settings or something . . .

  • @ssslayer

    First sample in each model appears to be missing speaker emulation. Very weak 2.5 khz to 4 khz spectrum on the contrary appears to boost the 400 to 500 Hz spectrum which lends a muddy charachteristic. The second sample for each model is doing much better job. But I see a problem with second processor - fixed order of virtual pedal. Many times the modulation effects sound better before distortion (e.g. few of early Dave Gilmour's tone)

  • @kr.4966
    @kr.4966 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I have them both...Valeton is the best in every way imaginable. Just dial it the tone you like tweaking the EQ and Bass and Trible, sounds more tube like, where as NUX sounds like a flash memory processor. Only down side to Valeton is its pedal bend and picth shift which i find unusable, where as NUX almost replicates the the Digitech whammy and the harmonizer is pretty good and clear. I hope future firmware for Valeton takes care of it,

  • @jreagle58
    @jreagle58 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I want a cheap multi-effects pedal that I can travel with and use in a live jam setting. Is the GP-100 that unit? Leaning hard towards Boss GT-1 but the GP-100 is about 80 Euros less.

    • @Tone-Quest
      @Tone-Quest  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hhmmmm, good question.
      Both have Pro’s and Con’s. I think the GP-100 has a metal chassis, so for travel it might be more robust. The Boss GT-1 is made of all plastic.
      The GP-100 has the ability to have IR’s loaded on it, while the Boss GT-1 doesn’t.
      The Boss GT-1 has the ability to move up and down through patches while still maintaining a foot switch to turn one or more effects in a patch on or off. You can also add an external foot switch to the Boss GT-1, which would give you two more control switch. This could be very handy for playing live. The GP-100 has two foot switches which allow you to move up or down through patches, or you can enable to foot switch to turn off or on effects in a patch, so essential giving you two control switches but then you would need to rotate the large parameter button to change patches.
      If you like the sound of the Boss GT-1, I think would lean toward it, as it seems more flexible for playing live.
      Good luck

    • @stevewhite8997
      @stevewhite8997 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest the Valeton. My experience of the Boss was that everything sounds very similar after a while. Boss was unable to distinguish between different guitars of HH and SS varieties so lacked subtlety. I got really bored with the Boss. It didn't record well either.

    • @jreagle58
      @jreagle58 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevewhite8997 that's an opinion I haven't heard. I really didn't want to go the Valeton GP-100 route because there's little or no customer support whereas the Boss has tons. For me it has been between the GT-1, the Zoom g3xn, or if I want to shell out a bit more money, the NUX MG-30. Everyone seems to rave over the MG-30 especially with the scenes feature and the additional 2 switch accessary. The G3XN is intriguing because of its multiple footswitches. I could envision having a preset that I can start with a clean chorus, switch to OD and then a harmonizer in the same song. Whatcha think about that?

      I've checked out various videos of it (as you probably have to by now) and found its sound to be disappointing. The MG300 (or Valeton) wins for me. EDIT: Bought the MG300. Unfortunately I couldn’t get it to sound convincing over my HK Polar 10. Too much sizzle in the crunch and distortion sounds, and the clean sounds didn’t sound too realistic. Probably more the fault of my column speaker, but it just didn’t work for my intended purpose.

    I'd you like the Digitech Rp360 you will like the Valeton GP. They are very similar in functionality. A real test for me is whether a fx unit like this can make close to the Gilmour sound. The RP can and the Valeton can: the Nux MG 300 can't. The fx section of modulations and delays is pretty poor. Not saying the Nux is bad, it certainly isn't and it does have it's uses. I have all 3 mentioned units and the one I prefer is the Digitech. It is simply the best all-rounder. Nux needs improvements to get it's modulations and Delays right because that's what let's it down mostly. Valeton has a dissappointing Wah and the drive pedals don't really sound authentic. Both the Valeton and the Nux have very poor noise cancellation and when used they tend to cut notes short which sounds artificial and becomes annoying to the point whereby you don't use it at all. Also with the Nux , the best Marshall sound I have made was using the Crunch box sim into a Fender Amp simulation. Way better than the Marshall amp simulations.
    Sorry to anyone who read my previous review here because I have changed my mind on the units after using them over an extended period of time.

      @@elemkay5104 Valeton is ok but there are some problems with it that I have found whilst using it. Many fx are disappointing particularly the Wah sound which is rubbish and it doesn't give an authentic Tubescreamer ( very unconvincing). Also the Noise cancellation is terrible. I mean really bad. It's difficult to use because it stops any sustain on notes you play. Very frustrating to use. To be honest I have stopped using the Valeton because of these problems. My advice look for a better unit. It's cheap but nasty.
