Great video. I ordered that Comet antenna for my second VX6R. Great radio. It is my everyday radio. I also enjoy my FT70 for wires and my ID52 for Dstar. KN6PWH... 73
I just bought my first Icom radio yesterday on QRZ, the 706MKIIG. Fantastic radio from when I used it at my local club. I want to get the Icom 91A HT. Heard they are bomb proof like the VX-6R and VX-8DR (not available anymore). The HT-224 Comet antenna is fantastic even after I bent that thing lol 73 de N3VAN
That “new board” thing has been blown way out of proportion. It’s essentially the same thing but instead of a solder blob connecting the jumpers, it’s a very, very small resistor, just tap it with a soldering iron and it’s gone, very easy and not even worth of a new method. It’s the same thing really.
Matt, thank you for the great help and advice regarding the VX-6R - and the and Comet HT-224 antenna! It is a great portable for 6/2/222/432. Going through my junk box I found the original antenna I had for my VX-7R years ago, which included an optional loaded section that could be screwed onto the top of the antenna in place of a short cap that was used if you were operating on 6/2/222 only. With the 6 meter loaded section attached the antenna is only 10" tall. Between the HT-224 for use on 2/222/432 and the original Yaesu VX-7R antenna for use I six I have the best of both worlds. 73, K3TD
You are very welcome! Glad you got your VX-6R and enjoy it. Great radio! Did not know about the VX-7R's antenna. May have to get one of those and do a comparison when I do an HT analysis video for my channel. I want to grab a Signal Stick to try out. A lot of hams use them and supposedly really good reception. I still have yet to setup the FT-8900R I bought from you on QRZ. Have too much on my plate right now but want to get to that shortly. 73, Matt N3VAN
@@n3vanradio According to Yaesu and several users (plus my feeble memory), the VX-5, 7 and 8 that were factory built for 6 meters used exactly the same stock antenna, a YHA-65 Q3000185 that came in 3 parts. The bottom is 6.5" long with a 3/8" long metal threaded shaft at the top. For 2 - 440 you screwed on a very short 'cap' (My short cap was lost long ago). For 6 you remove the short cap and screw on the 3.5" loaded segment. HRO shows the antennas as in stock.
Thanks Tad! Will look that antenna up. I just got a $100 door prize for DXEngineering at one of this weekends Hamfests. A comms friend who still enjoys his Baofeng wants me to do a showdown between the VX-6R and hte Baofeng UV-9R Plus. Just got the Chinese radio in today and will be putting both through a rigorous field test.
I currently use a Weller WES51 with an ETS or ETA tip. I use an SMD station for chip work at my IT business. But not needed here :) Will be doing the video this week and hope to have it up by weekend. Thank you for watching 73 Matt N3VAN
Thank you for sharing Matt, the 6m is good to know.
Thank you Janice! Hope you are having a great holiday weekend. 73
@@n3vanradio Happy 4th of July to you & family.

Yes, please, show how to do MARS on the new board.
i will work on that video this week!
@@n3vanradio What's up on that new MARS video? I think I may have messed up my Yaesu VX-6

Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching!
Thanks, I MARS modded mine and was looking or a good 6 meter antenna. Subscribed. 73 de AI5DD
Hi bud, will the mars mod work on the v6 E model thanks
That Icom T90 does 6meters. without any mods. But I think it's 5watts.
Thanks. So will people on FM hear WFM and vice versa?
That is correct! Just tested on my VX-6R's

What is the power output on 6m?
Matt do you run this vx6 to ear pro? Thanks
No but I should!
Will it actually transmit in AM modes? Or just FM? If so, have you tested its AM transmision?
Yes, it will transmit in AM modes on the allotted frequencies.
@@n3vanradio Have you tested it?
I briefly tested it on 6m and it does transmit but haven't extensively tested the AM on other bands.
@@n3vanradio What i meant is have you tested the AM transmission by using another radio on the same frequency on AM receive mode
