    Got the same on my 1416 Stutzen. Much ammunition goes hard in the chamber. The ammo that goes easy in the chamber hits okay. My best results are with the Eley Match and Tenex and with the RWS Special Match. With this ammo, I get hole-in-hole accuracy.

    I do own a 1417, and mine has a Hawke Vantage scope on it, but haven't fired it in a long while. I have to go test it out as soon as we get some decent weather. Then I can see what I get with my Anschutz.
    Good groups on your Day 2 try.
    Opps,. .I lied, not intentionally mind you, but as I said it's been so long since I had my Anschutz out of storage, that I had forgotten that it is actually a model 1416 with a heavy ( bull ) 22 inch barrel. It does have the Hawke Vantage 4-12x40 AO scope. I do recall that it is a very accurate shooting rifle.

    Lovely little rifle. Very handy (ahead of its time) with the short barrel and thumbhole stock. Mine is happily sub 1/2" in outdoor variable light breeze, better in still conditions. It's a classic Anschutz to me - exceptional trigger, excellent (exceptional for 14") barrel, but the mag is niggly and the bolt a reet PITA if it comes out. Which it can. Frankly, all a bit 'match.' I've only and always used Eley Subs and run a SAK. I'd be inclined to buy a 5 round mag, but they're expensive and I'm tight.

    I use a 1417 with a sak mod... what I can tell you is that, your groups on day one were somewhat erratic however, on day two I like yourself like to use Ealy SS and I have found them to be both consistent and group well at 50mtrs...CCI Green Tag Competition also fly well you can get hold of them.

    My BRNO is dated 1951 and I wouldn't like to guess how many rounds do I have put through it in the 20 + years I have had it let alone its lifetime and with Winchester subsonics it will do a ¾" group at 64yards as long as I do my bit right that is. The group will tighten up a little with Lapua rounds but not enough to warrant the extra cost of them.
    This lille rifle has accounted for many foxes to 75yds and who knows how many rabbits out to 200yds in perfect conditions

    Anny 1416 16 inch barrel. 1/4 inch @50 all day long with Eley subs being the most constant. Sk were a cleaner round and Winchester and rws good but at no further distance
    I ve tried a lot and eley are best for me. Accurate quiet and affordable. So much easier that fac Airguns at 100 plus

    I have a cz457 in 22lr and eley subsonic are by far the best grouping,it shoots mini mags and velocitors very well too. Cci subsonic and winchester 42 subsonics group the worst.

  • @Strutingeagle

    Only you can answer if the groups are acceptable since it was windy. No wind should result in half inch groups about 70 percent of the time at 50 yards.

    I'd be expecting (near enough) Same Hole Grouping at 50 yards, I was in .22 LR Rifle club many years ago.
    I think we used Eley Match (was it Eley Club?) rimfire with a with diopta sight & Single shot, Martini Action Rifles. We tried the higher velocity rounds, but they didn't go well for target work so same may apply for small Game re the Grouping?? There's nothing wrong with the Henry Martini Action - the Zulus didn't like it!!

    • @lancsvermincontrol
      @lancsvermincontrol  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Standard velocity grouped ok but because I want to use this for hunting I need ideally to use sub sonic, but I’ve found they’re slightly less accurate.

      I'm now using cci subs and my groups miles better and theyr a lot cheaper than Winchester which have gone upto 75 quid for 500.

    I also have a 1417g, it doesn't get out of the cabinet much in recent years due to fac PCP. However I am distinctly underwhelmed and somewhat disappointed by the accuracy it delivers. Initially tried a bunch of ammo and settled on eley subs as being the most accurate, now using rws subs due to difficulty in sourcing the eley locally. Just made a barrel tuner to try with it in the vain hope of improving the accuracy but as yet not had the chance to try it out. I'd say mine shoots much like yours, not tried the cleaning but probably need to re-lead the barrel after a clean.

    • @lancsvermincontrol
      @lancsvermincontrol  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tend to use my FAC PCP over 22LR as I find them more accurate 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • @Oregon-airguns
    @Oregon-airguns 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Man I’d expect much better results out of a $1000++ rifle. Although a clean barrel did make a good difference! But still I’d expect 1 rag hole with a rifle of that caliber

    Don`t have a 1417 Anshutz however I do have a 1416 Anshutz and I do believe Mine will hold tighter groups than your does however mine probably only has had about 50 bullets through it. My trigger is very light for a 22. I would guess less than a pound.

    Not sure that this will help,have a 1982 Savage Anschutz 54 Sporter using CCI 40gn subsonics best group 50 metres 0.45 including flyier,0.155 ctc 4 rounds,cleaned the barrel when I first got it 15 years ago and not cleaned it since. Also had a 1415/1416 which shot as well as my Match54 target rifle best 100.8

    I've had my cz 10 years or so,over 20000 rounds through it and never cleaned it, i can manage 3/4 in groups with eley subs or winchester subs. Try macavoys they usually have winchester.

    Can't believe iv come across your anchutz accuracy test.
    Iv been up the farm trying to zero my new alpex scope in but the grouping on my 1417 wasn't good. Ì was using Winchester subs which iv used for years and it's always loved this 40g ammo,but today was a bit of a disaster, I'm wondering if my barrels worn as iv put a few thousand rounds through it as iv owned it from new, its now sixteen years old. To be certain il give the barrel another good pull through and try for a better day before I pass judgement.

    hi...am only on sub 12 air rifles at the moment...but when i get my ticket will progress to cartride cases...any rifle will benefit from a good scrub n pull through, nice shooting i think you would deffo have the target worried lol...all the best Happy hunting. Gordon.

    • @lancsvermincontrol
      @lancsvermincontrol  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Gordon. Yeah I noticed it groups better after a good clean. Interesting test.

    • @pistolpete938
      @pistolpete938 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your right of course Gordon, keeping the rifle clean and lubed has an effect on groupings of any rifle. I found vouchers that Winchester had dropped the bullet weight and made the casings wafer thin causing them to expand and jam more than usual.
      This is what happens when manufacturers start to penny pinch!.

    Try Winchester 42 gr subsonic hollow point always used them in my 14i7 and I never cleaned the barrel until I shot about 2000 rounds also give the fiocchi 40gr hollow subsonic my new Tikki Tx1 loves them but please try the 42gr Winchester Subsonic hollow point most of my gamekeeper friends who have the 1417 use them.

    • @pistolpete938
      @pistolpete938 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine used to group well with Winchester but theyv altered the bullet and made the casing thinner, it started shooting rounds all over the place so I had no choice but to find an alternative.

    Ive got a 1416 with 16” barrel , i used to run eley 40g but they stopped making them and i think the 38g are absolutely shocking with loose bullets in the casings they shoot more like a shotgun , i have done quite a bit of ammo testing in mine and SK standard plus are the best followed by SK match , i cant upload pics of the groups on this message but if you want to send me your email addy i will send them to you , great guns by the way
    I clean my barrel after every outing and have never suffered any accuracy problems

    • @lancsvermincontrol
      @lancsvermincontrol  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I noticed that cleaning the barrel gave me better grouping. The rifle performs quite well with SK Match but it has a crack to it. I need to be able to use subsonic. Interesting test though I thought.

      @@lancsvermincontrol yea interesting video , good to see the difference in grouping , if you need subs try the rws again in a clean barrel they came third in my tests , bit of a pain in the backside but try each brand in a clean barrel as the different wax cotings can affect results 👍

    • @lancsvermincontrol
      @lancsvermincontrol  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@davyt1090 yeah will do. I fired 4 shots of each before doing the group test to season the barrel a little first.
