This is how Jewish kids are taught about money

  • In the video, Berel Solomon discusses the approach to financial education within the Jewish community, emphasizing the importance of teaching children about money, business, and career success from a young age. He shares a personal anecdote where his mother discouraged him from becoming a rabbi due to the low income associated with the profession, highlighting the community's focus on pursuing high-earning careers. Jewish children are encouraged to think big and aim high, understanding that financial stability is crucial for supporting large families and maintaining a kosher lifestyle, which can be expensive. This early financial education is a moral imperative rooted in the Torah. It commands parents to teach their children how to make a living to avoid the destructive cycle of poverty.
Solomon stresses that financial literacy and ambition are critical because schools do not adequately teach these skills, leaving parents responsible. By instilling a proper financial mentality, parents can help their children achieve success and avoid generational poverty. He encourages viewers to actively participate in their children's financial education.
Keywords: financial education, Jewish community, money lessons, career success, economic stability, Barl Solomon, teaching children, high-earning careers, Torah commandments, avoiding poverty, financial literacy, parenting tips, money management, kosher lifestyle, professional development, business success, generational wealth, child education, personal finance, family support

The thing that people are not taught about money, it took me a while to figure this out, the power of money isn't what it can buy. The real power of money is what it allows you to say NO to. Crappy job - if you have alternative sources or at least an emergency fund you can leave job and find a better one if you need to. If you go out and buy a bunch of stuff on credit, new car with $1000 month payment, credit card bills, etc. then your job and your money owns you. If you can manage and make money YOU control you. How many people are working crappy jobs for people they HATE because they have credit card bills, car payments, vacations on credit, etc. Control your money. Don't let money and debt control you!

If you wanna be successful, you most take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to make you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You must look outward if you wanna be successful in life

We never talked about money when I was growing up. If anything was said, it was usually negative in the context of an argument. So…I was left to fumble through life and figure it out on my own. Now, at 58, I finally understand much more than I ever have about money but, bad decisions made previously, have made it very difficult for me. That said, I am taking all four of my sons to an investing workshop this fall. It may, I say may, be too late for me, but if I can set my boys in the right direction, I will consider my life a success. Thanks for your video.

Nice statement. I believe, however, that the reason that families did not have conversations, especially in the 50s through 80s, is because the general public did (does) not know how money works. Most people only understand how to consume, not establish wealth. So, even high wage earners during the period I mentioned somehow assumed that money was earned to burn - not because they wanted to do so, but they assumed they had to spend to make what they earned make sense. This message was delivered to their children and others under their influence. People are becoming wiser about money now. So, that narrative is slowly changing, in my opinion. And, you are doing the best thing for your sons. Kudos to you. Also understand, it is not too late for you. If you maintain good health, you will be around until around 90, that is 32 more years. In encourage you to begin wealth building now. There are a lot of folk who learned about wealth post 60 years and became wealthy in their later years. Why not you? Much success!!!

My Parents while living in the Projects, put a good work ethic in me and a knowing that I was as good, as I MADE MYSELF. This was happening while the America, in general, projected a group of people that had no hope. To elevate out of the class you are born into happens to a very very small percentage of People, even in America.
That said, I retired at 41 from the Army, as planned, and now have enough resources to put $1K up a month for sharing with those that are not as fortunate as I am. All that I contribute to the idea that, I can do as much or as little as I want, Money is not Evil, and I need it to have some peace in this World. My older cousin once told me a story about my grandfather talking to her as a little girl maybe 8 or 9 years old. She was the first one born in the U.S. in his broken English he proceeded to tell a 9 year old that he expected "big" things out of her. That he had a college fund for her as she would be the first to have the opportunity to go to school. In 1976 she opened up her own coffee shop on the upper west side of Manhattan. Today she is in her mid 70's & stills goes to work 3-4 days a week, she is the neighborhood un-anointed mayor of the block. Yes from small things one day big things come!

This is so interesting. I don't know any jews personally and growing up in Eastern Europe I heard about Jews being obsessed with money and it always had a negative connotation the way it was said. But it never sat right with me because I didn't hear about them stealing or getting their money through some dishonest practices. I always had a suspicion they must be doing something right, they must be good at making money. You pretty much confirmed for me that it's goid mindset and hard work. I can guarantee you that every cleaner I've spoken to hates their job due to the low wages and disgusting things they have to do. You can't compare that to a job handling finances where you'll make more money and be in a comfortable office. I'm not just speaking from a wage standpoint;; I'm speaking from a comfort standpoint as well. We don't need to pretend that all jobs are equally desirable just because they're necessary

Now I don’t mean in the sense of buying Ferrari’s because he was modest and always put back, but to be able to provide for yourself and the future you may want.
    Respect

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

As a non Jewish person, I noticed my Jewish friends are very hard working, well educated, and humble. I also noticed they don't waste money because they value their family, friends, and community more than material things. I would be embarrassed to ask them about how they do it. But since your putting it out there, I'm hoping to learn. I hope I'm not being offensive by saying this.❤

I’d say as an orthodox Jewish entrepreneurial woman myself - I also want to create opportunities for the world where we fulfill the pusik in tehillim about not thirsting for water and instead only thirsting for Torah. I’d want to make like so easy for everyone that all we really need to do is simply 1. Focus on the spiritual aspect of loving the other, and 2. Having everyone learn Torah everyday 3. Be able to truly enjoy life and never have to worry about any material needs. Please Hashem let this be true so we can have moshiach earned through Sinas Ahava 💗

to increase understanding and teaching for everyone, use clear English rather than just unfamiliar words to those who don't know the teachings...otherwise the comments are bypassed especially when words like sinas ahava, Torah, and moshiach which have no meaning or explanation in the comment, are used. Part of coming together as a species needs to be a thoroughly practiced simple and common language understood and spoken by all. As complex as it sometimes can be, the logical choice would be English.

Retirement is now more difficult than it was in the past. I've been saving for a long time instead of investing, and right now I only have about $400K. considering all the inflation, i'm thinking of investing in stocks, i dont just have idea on market strategies.

The increasing prices have impacted my plan to retire at 62, work part-time, and save for the future. I'm concerned about whether those who navigated the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am currently experiencing. The combination of stock market volatility and a decrease in income is causing anxiety about whether I'll have sufficient funds for retirement.

This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800k

Yes, I guess I was right. A very big principle of this religion is about how to love money and be rich. I live around the strict Hasidic Jewish community and they're buying out everything in our area. Businesses, schools and lots of houses.

I used to buy a lot of stuff from their Kosher grocery store and one time I wanted to buy (I believe it was) a small bag of garlic flavoured onion ring chips. I went to the cash and took out the last spare change I had. I ended up being five cents short and asked the people waiting in line in back of me if they can chip me in that nickel and they turned their backs on me. They're all millionaires. They should be ashamed of themselves but they'll never be.

I want my children to know how to make money as well as I do. I want them to know the difference between Revenue and Capital Gains, and how to stay away from any kind of debt that has an Interest Rate. I don't even have a Savings Account because I refuse to charge an Interest Rate as well.

    • @RaphaelavanLeer

There’s a big difference between good debt and bad debt that you might not have heard of. Good debt returns your interest paid and more (like buying a flat and rent it out where the rent covers the mortgage plus profit) bad debt is buying a car for own use that decreases in value and only costs money. Read Rich Dad Poor Dad about this theme, great book.
