    Excellent video! I own 4 namopressos, 2 barista kits, a dulce gusto adaptor , a Pipamoka, and have ordered their new Picopresso. I use these daily and have 3 nanovessels for making latte macchiatos to-go. Happy espresso making !

    Great video! but keep in mind to move the leaves from the spot where you want to make a fire. A 1m x 1m patch is best for alcohol/gas stoves.

    Very thorough! Can I ask why exactly having two double espresso baskets is useful? And what are the basket lids for? Is it so you carry around pre-ground coffee with you, and use the lid to secure the grounds in?

    Great video! Your original video is what convinced me to buy the Nanopresso and I'm so glad I did. I use the same Hario mini mill as you and I happened to find out the bottom of the clear plastic base works perfectly as a tamp for the grinds basket!! ! So if you ever forget your tamp try it out.

    Your videos made me buy a nanopresso and barista kit i only use ground espresso coffee out of connivence at work i used the lavazza expresso was extracting fine, now i wanted something a little stronger so i tried the illy espresso intense i get decent pull on single but when i use the double i get dripping not good flow lot more pressure and the puk is really saturated, i haven’t got a clue about coffee i even had to spell check how to spell it lol, if you know where im going wrong or just wrong grind i would appreciate it cheers

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Friend, I've used both, if memory serves me correctly, the Lavazza espresso pulled way better. I'd say the reason is that the Illy has a slightly finer grind. You'll need to reduce the amount you add to the basket and tamp lightly, this should help improve the flow rate. I try and aim for a steady flow slightly thicker than a match stick, once the flow becomes drippy its either because there's too much coffee in the basket or the grind is too fine, as it's pre-ground, your only real option is to add a little less than you would with the Lavazza. Hope that helps :)

    Ok, so.. if I understand right I can buy the nanopresso, and the barista kit and keep using the smaller original water tank? that will be enough to make a good americano? 50-60g of extraction?

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's perfect, 16g of coffee for about 55g of drink. Then add additional hot water directly to the cup (around 300-350ml total) until you get the strength you like best. The reason I like using the small tank, is that I can always get a consistent amount by filling it to the top. Hope that helps :)

    I’m tempted, but seem to get fine results with a simple pour over. Do you find that the espresso is that much better? $100 better?

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dwight, well a pour over just relies on gravity, the Nanopresso generate 18 bars of pressure. You'll probably be using a little more coffee in a pour over which means more caffeine. It also takes a longer. I like both to be honest. I think espresso's work better for making certain drinks like Latte's and Cappacinos. As for the money, I think the Nanopresso is an absolute bargain, especially when you compare it to some of the less portable options. Have a great day.

    Hey GadgetViper, my girlfriend and I are looking to purchase the Nanopresso for our camping trips, and I would like to know if you recommend the extra $30 USD to get the Barista Kit or we will good with the rinse-and-reuse single shot Nano. Thanks!

    I just received Nanopresso with the barista kit.
    Firstly I try single shot. It good with easily extraction.
    I used coffee 8 g. with grind very fine.
    then I try to made double shot with coffee 16 g.
    some coffee bean and same grind level.
    It is hard to extract, hard to press.
    The water was quite release.
    Please advised me , what should I do?
    Thank you

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pera, I just replied to another guy with a very similar problem, here is what I said (it should help you too) - 'Hi, I would guess that the espresso grind may be a tiny bit too fine, the ideal grind is sort of in-between an espresso and a filter grind. You may be able to get around it taking the small rubber piece out of the nozzle (there is an instruction in the Barista Kit manual, or watch the part 3 where I demo it) this will help the flow a little. If it is still hard to pump, then try putting 0.5g less grinds in the basket and do a slightly lighter tamp, this will also help. If you've got the tamp and weight right for the grind, then it shouldn't be too hard to pump. If it's leaking out of the sides when using the Barista kit, then it's likely that you're are overpumping. Also, take the large orange rubber ring off from around the portafilter and make sure there are no old grinds trapped underneath (this can happen if you have a fine espresso grind) If you've got this issue and you want a little hack to avoid having to redo the basket, try loosening in the portafilter for a second and then tightening it up again, I've found that if I've overpacked the basket or overtamped, this seems to help restore the flow. - Hope that helps'

    Hi GadgetViper,
    How is everything, are you still using your Nanopresso? I bought myself one for Xmas2018. I really liked it and as I got better and better with it I got the Barista kit and it became my favorite way to make coffee on the weekends. I've been using it for months now but I've hit a snag; one that seems like it will forever end my use of the device.
    To start, I've always used pre-ground lavazza coffee. And I've developed my technique for measuring and tamping this coffee over the course of months. But now suddenly the Nanopresso has become extremely sensitive to becoming over-pressured. If I have any coffee in there, even lightly tamped, the plunger becomes stiff and no espresso comes out.
    I've tried and tried again to decrease the amount of coffee I use, lighten the tamp, but it's no use. I've checked the filter, it's clean. I disassembled the main body entirely to look for anything out of place, there wasn't.
    Did you ever run into any problems with your Nanopresso as it aged? At this point It seems like I'll either have to start pulling 4 gram shots, or give up with this device (heartbreaking as it is).

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am still using the Nanopresso (used it yesterday) and it's still going strong. I once had a problem with loss of pressure, this was due to the pump getting tiny bits of limescale in it from the kettle. I resolved it by fast pumping fresh water through after each extraction and it's been fine ever since. Regarding your problem, it sounds to my like the pump is building pressure, but for some reason, there is a block in the flow somewhere between the basket and the portafilter nozzle. Have you tried unscrewing the 3 screws on the portafilter that hold on the stainless steel perforated disc? maybe that's clogged? Also, is there any chance that the preground coffee has a slightly finer grind on this batch? The reason I ask is that I once bought some espresso ground Costa coffee, and it was just a little too fine to use in the Nanopresso. I'm no Nanopresso engineer, but I think the issue is either that the fine grinds are clogging in the portafilter, or that the portafilter has a flow restriction somewhere? - I hope you get to the bottom of it :)

    • @Pikmin012
      @Pikmin012 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Genuinely nice to hear you haven't had any problems with yours. It's seen a lot more service than mine; I imagine. It does seem like the coffee is the only failing piece of the puzzle, but I have a hard time convincing myself. I might try replacing the entire unit, either on warranty or out of my own pocket, just for my own peace of mind.
      Thank you very much for the fast response.

    Does the Barista kit’s water tank have the inner threads that let it screw tight to the nanopresso body? I read a review on Amazon that said it was lacking these and the boiling water’s steam pressure can ‘pop’ the two pieces apart in your hands causing scalds. I noticed the normal water tank does have little locking threads that do prevent separation.

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it does, I think the problem they are referring to, is that if you over tighten the threads, it can cause them the wear. This leads to them becoming less effective. As long as your mindful not to overtighten, you'll be fine. If you'd like an even better water tank, check out the Nanovessel (I did a video on it) have a great day

    Hiya buddy, thanks very much for your great videos... but i'm having some real dramas with mine!! I'm trying to dial in my grinds and really struggling to press the pump sometimes that I feel like i need to get to the gym 💪🏼 I am using the Hario Mini Slim Pro with a ceramic conical burr grinder, i'm measuring my 16 gms of beans and tamping the grind to 4mm below the lip of the basket as per Wacaco's instructions... Could mine be faulty, because not once have i had an easy extraction with the perfect crema... i'm even getting grinds in my espresso. Please help

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you like the videos, I've found the perfect weight depends on the beans your using, sometimes 16grams is a struggle with certain roasts, try slightly less so that you get the same height in the basket, but with a slightly less forceful tamp. If it's still hard to press, then go a little coarser on the grind. The Nanopresso requires a slightly coarser grind than you'd typically use on a big espresso machine. Start of a few clicks coarser and see if the extraction improves, it's likely to flow too quick and be underextracted, but then you can try again one click finer and work toward the sweet spot. I find that the flow from the portafilter gets thinner but remains a constant stream, like a match stick, the moment it becomes a drippy extraction, you've gone too fine. At that point you could try slightly less in the basket. If it's still hard to press even with less weight and a coarser grind, perhaps the portafilter is a little bunged up, I think there are some screws you can undo. Anyway good luck my friend and thanks for watching :)

      Martin Fustes The Barista Kit is only available directly from Wacaco at the moment I believe. I bought my one from their website. It does come with free delivery, but I did have to pay VAT/Import charges when it arrived. Delivery took a couple of weeks too. It's worth it though. I'm using the Nanopresso all the time now I can make double shots. I'd imagine it will eventually be available on Amazon.co.uk, however it might not work out much cheaper. The Nanopresso unit is about £20 more expensive on Amazon than it is to buy it from their website. Hope that helps and happy new year.

    Hello! I have two questions about the barista kit:
    1) can you pull a double shot using the smaller water tank?
    2) would the nanopresso with the ring attachment but the smaller water tank fit in the original case?
    Thanks and please keep up the reviews!

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, 1. You can pull a double shot with the smaller water tank, the finished weight will be around 50-55g if you've got the tank full. 2. Unfortunately not, it will fit in the Minipresso case (the previous version to the Nanopresso) but not in the Nanocase. Wacaco are making a new case sometime soon though. Hope that helps :) Have a great weekend

    I got my Nanopresso NS Kit today and also found the crema valve. Also without it I get a really nice crema. But the capsule is not opened as good as with a Nespresso machine and I found some ground coffee in my cup, what also not happens with an original Nespresso machine. I would like to see your review of it and also trying without the crema valve.

      Hi, yes it can, if you like a Lungo, I think some Nespresso pods are made for a larger extraction. With the Barista kit water tank on you'll be able to get about 110g of drink instead of around 55g with the small original tank. Hope that helps, have a great day

    Great videos! Lots of good tips, thanks for posting. Im trying to figure out if I should get just the Nanopresso or also add the barista kit, if anyone who has them, can help with some insight: at home I usually make a “latte” using a 3 cup moka (about 4oz/120ml) and adding some milk. I’m a flight attendant, and need something to take on my trips with me. What would give me the closest result? Should I do a double shot basket with the larger barista water tank, or maybe a double shot basket using the short water tank? Or since espresso tends to be a bit stronger than moka, will just a single shot be enough? For me the smaller/least I have to carry, the better, so trying to see if I really need all the extras from the barista kit or not.

    Really helped me in deciding to buy this product and I love it. I have purchased the whole kit. I'm having a little trouble with the double shot. Took the rubber pressure piece out. I have a fine grind like it says and I fill to the top of the filter then tamp. I get nothing sometimes because of to much pressure build. So I try a coarser grind and get a good pour. But I struggle to get 16 grams in there. Do you double tamp with a coarser grind to get the 16g in? Thanks in advance. Love your work.

    Great video as always. Your last video about Nanopresso is what makes me decide to buy a Nanopresso. Thank you so much for the great review. Btw, I got the barista kit also and sometimes have a lil bit problems. After all the preparation step, when I pump, the pressure was getting harder and harder until it was too hard to pump, then it stopped coming out from the portafilter and start leaking from the sides. I'm still wondering what's wrong. Is the ring or portafilter isn't tight enough, or the coffee was tamped too hard on the basket (making it too full or too dense, or just the grind size (it's grind for the espresso size already actually by my local coffee shop, since I still dont have any grinder). Do you ever experience this before? Thank you so much

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, I would guess that the espresso grind may be a tiny bit too fine, the ideal grind is sort of in-between an espresso and a filter grind. - Hope that helps

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think you really need to, espresso purists would say a pressurised head is cheating, you'll get a little more crema, but it's superficial, there is no real difference to the flavour. I'd leave it in as it makes it easier to build intial pressure. If you remove it, pump quicker at the start to build the pressure otherwise it will start extracting be little before the optimal pressure is achieved. Hope that helps, tha is for watching :)

      Yes, you can't quite get the grind as fine as an espresso machine, there is a small comprise there, but if you dial your grind down a fine as possible, tamp lightly and get the right amount of coffee in the basket it makes a very drinkable double shot espresso.

    Ok so a question from gf, in Brazil my gf adds sugar to the water while its boiling and then pours into a paper filter to make her espresso. Can the nanopresso take the sugar water or will that effect the machine over time? Thanks

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I would not put sugar water through the pump, I'd imagine it would leave a sticky residue throughout which will only lead to problems. I guess if she were to pump lots of clean water through afterwards before the sugar water has had a chance to dry then it might be ok, but I wouldn't risk it.

    • @GadgetViper

      Try holding the main body under a running tap (so the underside/ water tank side is facing up) and pump the piston really fast for a minute or so. It sounds like the pump has some sort of obstruction or partial blockage, this might help clear it. If it does, then do this when you're rinsing it off between uses, and it should help maintain a healthy pump. Hope that helps.

    Staresso vs nanapresso
    Who would you says wins?
    Who has the Strongest yield and filtration?

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      cory ridings The Staresso can (if you seriously pack in the coffee) can get around 13.5g in the basket, but it's not ideal, the pump is a task. The Nanopresso with the Barista kit on the other hand is designed to take 16g. The extraction is no more difficult than with it set up for a single shot. So the Nanopresso most definitely has the better yield. As for the filtration, is there a way I can do a comparison test somehow? I'd be more than happy to give it a go and report back with the results?

      Phoenix Zhou Glad you liked the video, I definitely would treat yourself to the Barista kit, it's awesome. If you're grind is fairly fine and you've tamped it well, then you should get a solid puck. Also try waiting for a few minutes for the puck to dry a little first, that helps too. The Barista Kit comes with really nice tamp that is a big improvement over just using the underside of the filling basket. Thanks for watching, have a great day.

    Hey! Any chance you know how to fix a leak from the adapter ring? Probably it’s coming from the basket seal...

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it's leaking during the extraction, it may be because your pressure is getting a little too high, this could be due to the grinds being either a little too fine, the tamp being a little too hard or that there's a little too much weight in the basket. I'd try easing back on those three and see if it still leaks. A good sign that you've prepped the basket well is the flow rate during the extraction. If it slow drips, it's probably working a little too hard, I've found that sometimes cause the coffee to leak from the ring. If it's leaking with a good flow, then maybe there's another issue. Hope that helps.

    • @djmuscleg
      @djmuscleg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GadgetViper Thank you very much for fast and comprehensive reply, I totally appreciate it. As I found, I press too hard and also my flow is more into drip side than nice flow. I also think that my ROK grinder is pulling inconsistent grinds that may be clogging the machine and causing me to press too hard on it. Sometimes I feel I pull shots at 18 bars haha

    • @GadgetViper
      @GadgetViper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@djmuscleg I've had leaks around the ring occasionally when I've switched to a new coffee, if you're just on the sweet spot of grind,weight and tamp, you'll need to adjust a little each time (to get as close as you can) when it's a slow drip, just dial one of those back a touch :) have a great day

      @djmuscleg 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      GadgetViper Hey 👋🏼! Finally, I got an answer to this ”ring leaks.” It turns out that Wacaco didn't put too much research into their seals or didn't expect people to preheat the unit without a basket. It appears that the silicone gasket getting too soft after the first preheat, causing it to leak water at the time of extraction. Long story short: there are two ways to solve this problem, first is to preheat the unit with an additional empty basket, and the second is to find a replacement, stronger seals that can withstand the high pressures created. I'll continue experimenting and let you know if I could find compatible seals, especially the one sitting in the cap.

      I've used Lavazza beans and 16g is definitely possible if the grind is right, I tamp my basket so the edge of the Barista tamp is level with the top (the grinds are about 3-4mm lower) The funny thing is, with the AMAZING beans i'm using now (Square Mile) even with a similar coarseness, it's so much further down, I've increased the weight from 16g to around 17.5. I have tried 3 times with pour over sort of grind (medium-fine) and changing the tamping pressure (more to less), but it seems to blow the seal anyway and I do not get a single drop of espresso. Hi GadgetViper, thanks for your prompt reply. I will try both and will let you know. Thanks for reviews!!

      Hi GadgetViper, I tried this method with a medium fine grind (8/40 on my Virtuoso, just a tad less of what I use for with my V60) and medium/hard tamp, but it released a lot of sediments to the cup, did not generate any crema and it was too watery/thin. Should I grind finer/tamp harder? If I grind finer, I suspect I will get even more sediments on my cup?
      Thks!

      I wish I had a Virtuoso so that I could compare the grind, it's on my Chrismas list. I haven't noticed much in the way of sediment, If I go too fine the extraction takes too long but I've not noticed much in the way of sediment. If you've removed the rubber (non-pressurized mode) you may get a slightly thinner extraction at the start, I tend to pump fairly quickly for the first 7-8 pumps then slow to about 1 second a pump. I'm surprised there was no crema, that's something my unit has never had issues with. I will say that the grind does need to be medium/fine, if it's too fine (like powder) it will definitely choke it up. If you were to buy a bag or preground Lavazza Caffe Espresso Coffee, that's about the right coarseness. I do hope you find a way of dialling it in that works for you, you might need to try a different coffee, I bought some really nice Red Brick coffee from Square Mile roasters and it was like starting from scratch again to get it right. Good Luck Martin!
