I believe that the dress up game genre is a huge untapped market in the gaming industry like the amount of potential and causal gamers that become invested in those games are surprising in fact. But I wish we could go farther away from the business setup that is happening today like the huge amount of microtransaction and the predatory nature of p2w system.
I used to play SuitU but because of how it became a game of spending real money, it made me stop playing.

I became so invested in the game so much that I always engage in the discord community (which is new to me and help me navigate the discord app) entered community contests and even applied to design competitions and creator program. But in the end, I realized that becoming more committed to this game might put me into a financial struggle so I did the right thing and left the game.

I feel like you only need to look as how much people love character customisation aspects and options in games to see that a lot of people LOVE dress up games, but there aren’t many popular games of high quality that are known. I feel like Sims 4 is a good example of a game where character design/customization/fashion isn’t meant to be a big part of the game, but the sheer volume of cosmetic mods that have been made for it says a lot for how people love being able to dress up their characters.
Unfortunately, i feel like a lot of people associate dress up games with low quality mobile games or games for little girls only, which is such a huge shame.

Not a fashion game, but for Switch, Animal Crossing actually scratched that itch a little bit. Looking forward to Fashion Dreamer!

Absolutely. I have over a thousand hrs in acnh, and even though theres not much for me to do in the game anymore… i still boot up the game and make new outfits every so often

i agree, it wasn’t perfect but there was more then enough pieces to make fashion a pretty big part of customization in game

Thank you so much for this video! People look down on "girly" games so much, especially in the toxic gaming community. The western gaming industry is still convinced there's no audience for them outside of little girls, so even when there are fashion games released they never bother with marketing them (cough fashion dreamer cough).
While it wasn't a dress-up game, I was obsessed with Imagine Fashion Designer as a kid. It was, and still is, the most detailed fashion design game I've ever played, letting you pick the pattern and colors, cut the fabric, iron out wrinkles, sew them together, sew in buttons, everything! The story was also cute, with a war against moths.

You can really see a difference between fashion games developed in the west versus the east. Western titles feel so much more bland. They’re all like, “Design the perfect business suit!” in exciting colors such as brown, black, and navy. Do they really look at their game and think “Yes, when people dream of doing fashion design they definitely want to be making straight leg jeans.” The games look like a chore to slog through. Bright graphics and a stylized look beat mundane realism just about every time.

    • @purplemist7
      @purplemist7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Personally, I think that's a matter of preference and not that one is inherently better. Some people might prefer realism over a more stylized style. I think the Style Savvy games do a good job of representing more realistic styles, while also having more fantastical aspects with the lolita styles, for example.

One game I’m surprised you didn’t mention in the 3DS section was Girls Fashion Shoot which is actually part of the Nicola games that was mostly a Japan only series but this one got an English release around 2013.
It’s actually a cute little game, your character play as a model and you do several different photoshoots depending on the theme and you can also hang out with other models and take pictures with them. You can also edit your pictures of the shoots too. It’s a rather niche title though as not a lot of people bought it I think. And since the eShop and 3DS units are gone, getting a copy of this game physically will cost roughly between $60-70
I highly recommend looking at some videos of gameplay cause it’s a game I’m sure you never heard before but it might catch your eye a bit since I don’t think any more future Nicola games will get localized, which is a shame cause it’s a good alternative.

Great video! I only recently realized how much dress up has been a huge component in my appreciating some games and am super looking forward to Fashion Dreamer and got Love Nikki and Life Makeover after your recommendations here. Although fashion is limited by the individual creator, picrew also scratches that itch for browser stuff.

I started with Love Nikki and still consistently play it but after a certain point there just wasn’t much to do. I wanted to get Life makeover but I don’t have enough storage on my phone :( I got suit u instead and it’s pretty fun. I would say it’s less free to play than love Nikki but it is still rewarding and I have a lot of cute stuff.

For people that are interested in ; Mostly in french, but I do think still in english too there's OhMyDollz, which is a browser based dress up game & with a little small community, sadly the game is dying but it has fashion since 2008 !! There's also in french only ; Sailor Fuku, a cute pixel art fashion game, also a small community but people still play those two games, it is more cosy with less people but hopefully it will stay online for more years ! Forums are available for both. :)

Then i stopped because my phone was so horrible and played a lot of ever skies but yes the community there is SO insanely toxic and young so i stopped playing that too. The graphics for the storyline based mobile games are so beautiful but I did tried few of them and I'm too lazy to care. I really enjoy playing SuitU and Covet Fashion since I just need to spend few mins of my time to complete all the challenges/comp.
Since you can borrow items from your fb friends / fashion house in Covet Fashion, it honestly so easy to play without paying since at least one of your friends/members will own the items. You'll also receive quite a lot of diamonds daily so you don't need to spend rl money that much.

I know I'm a year late to this video, but I can confirm as someone that played for a while that Everskies is indeed a hellscape and you have to walk on eggshells every time you interact with people on there 😭 There's drama every single day, and everyone just wants to fight while pretending to be "morally right." I myself had gotten jumped on there and dogpiled multiple times over the stupidest things ever and got perma banned over a misunderstanding (which I had to wait 6 months to even attempt to appeal WITH proof and screenshots, but I got my account unbanned at the end). Basically most ppl on there are a bunch of chronically online snowflakes who follows the crowd and act in numbers because they're too afraid to start up drama alone. Taking a break from the app is probably the best thing I have ever done. Im so sorry for the YAP session, but the second I saw you mention everskies I got what felt like war flashbacks 💀. im so sorry about the terrible experience you had no one deserves to be ganged up on like that, i also might have came across the hate post they made about you since i was active at the time but similar stuff happened multiple times so im not sure :(
