    Tisha B'av
(The Ninth of Av) is a day of mourning and fasting. The holiday commemorates various tragedies that befell the Jewish people throughout history, particularly the destruction of the two temples in 586 BCE and 70 CE. Tisha B'Av, which literally means the ninth day of the Hebrew month of Av, is a 24-25-hour period of fasting in remembrance of the destruction of the First and Second temples in Jerusalem. On Erev Tisha B'Av (the evening before the 9th of Av), it is customary to chant the verses of the Biblical Book of Lamentations in a sad tone during the evening synagogue service. On Tisha B'Av, many Jews observe a full fast day, refraining from eating and drinking for 25 hours.

On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, "To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates- the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites."

    Biblical account
On the seventh day they marched seven times around the walls, then the priests blew their ram's horns, the Israelites raised a great shout, and the walls of the city fell.
    The conquest of Canaan
    Conquer
As told by the Deuteronomist, the conquest of Canaan by Joshua and the Israelite tribes was swift and decisive. No conquest of central Canaan (in the region of Shechem),

Joshua, the son of Nun, of the tribe of Ephraim, was first called Oshea or Hoshea, … [Numbers 13:16], which signifies saved, a saviour, or salvation; but afterwards Moses, guided no doubt by a prophetic spirit, changed his name into … Yehoshua or Joshua, which signifies he shall save, or the salvation of Jehovah; referring, no doubt, to his being God’s instrument in saving the people from the hands of their enemies,
    Inheritance
The Promised Land (Hebrew: הארץ המובטחת‎, translit.: ha'aretz hamuvtakhat; Arabic: أرض الميعاد‎, translit.: ard al-mi'ad; also known as "The Land of Milk and Honey") is the land which, according to the Tanakh (the Hebrew Bible or Old Testament), God promised and subsequently gave to Abraham and to his descendants. In modern contexts the phrase "Promised Land" expresses an image and idea related both to the restored homeland for the Jewish people and to salvation and liberation.
