This is my deep dive, reaction, analysis and breakdown of Gabriel Henrique performing Mariah Carey’s classic power balled, My All. I really enjoyed his beautiful tone and vibrato as well as all of the little embellishments he added to the melody.
Gabriel has a lovely, bright sounding voice that he ornaments with swift vibrato as well as riffs and runs. I have enjoyed every performance of his that we’ve looked at. I really admire his control of the nuances in his voice and I catch myself listening to him often these days!
I am a jazz/R&B vocalist, baritone saxophone player, music educator, and vocal coach local to New Orleans. I have two degrees in jazz/music education and work professionally playing music. Thank you for all the support on these videos! It is such a joy to create educational, entertaining content for you. Hi Erika!
I hadn't heard Gabriel's version of 'My All' so far and it's pretty amazing, I have to say. It gives me the impression that he's such an intuitive singer that he builds up his performance at the very moment of the recording. Maybe if he had to sing it once again 10 minutes later it wouldn't be quite the same, you know what I mean?

Generally speaking, I have nothing against men singing women's songs et vice versa, but this song just fits Mariah's registers so perfectly (that's probably also why she chose this tonality), that it just feels different when a man sings that song, since the passaggi between registers are different for men and women. He did a great job, he's a great singer, but I prefer Mariah's version simply based on the tone. That's just my opinion and my personal preference.
