    sometimes speed isnt the only thing that wins. This is why this pigeon is alive, it can out drift the drag racers.

    Falcon is the fastest bird on the earth, but it attain maximum speed while diving only, racing pigeon are have speed + endurance.

      Have you watched this video 🤷‍♂️
      It literally shows peregrine destroying racing pigeon in every single flight category!
      I have video on my channel where you can see the GPS data on peregrine male catching racing pigeon after more than 35 km flying at maximum speed.

    Pigeon is Marathonbird can fly for hours average speed 125km max butt the Falcon is a sprinter, so he will lose in the end if the pigeon keeps his marathonflight.

    To bad he stopped, Pigeons can fly for days non stop, pigeon could outrun this bird easy, but for some reason he was circling around, not a straight flight like the wild once.

    • @Semendrija123
      @Semendrija123 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Obviously you don't understand the hunting dynamics!
      When the pigeon asses that the falcon is faster in a strait line, it starts to climb in a attempt to stay above the falcon. That type of technique is called "ringing up", or as you said it, circling up since that is the fastest way to gain the height. But in this case the Peregrine was able to outclimb the pigeon, and when they were leveled it used its higher level speed to catch up. The only choice for the pigeon in this situation is to dive to gain speed and maneuver, but since nothing can dive at the speed of the peregrine, the pigeon started to panic and search for the cover.
      Bottom line, pigeon couldn't outrun this falcon, not even close!

      @@Semendrija123 You could be correct, but i have dozens of pigeons, and i watch them every day outrunning. so im just coming from what i see

    • @Semendrija123
      @Semendrija123 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jafarhon I believe you because wild falcons out of the breeding season have relatively very low hunting success. Immature birds have on average around 10%, and adult have around 27% of success. In the breeding season adult birds have between 22% and 40% of success depending on the experience of the breeding pair.
      Also, you have to keep in mind that large portion of the attacks are not serious attacks because the falcons are hunting even if they are not hungry. That way they are staying in great shape, especially for the breeding season where they need to be much more serious when chicks need a lot of food.
      Second thing, experienced falcons are not going to tail chase and go after every pigeon they have attacked in a flock because that is very demanding energy wise. They will abort attack, remount and attack few more times using higher speed and surprise, but in this case where you have one falcon and one pigeon over the desert where the pigeon doesn't have the cover and pigeon loft to hide, everything is changing. The falcon knows that it has much greater chances of success, compared to the entire flock that is flying above the ground with lots of cover.
      Also, the peregrine subspecies used for this type of competitions are most of the time Calidus subspecies that like to tail chase, and are very fast and persistent in level flight. Other peregrine subspecies like to attack from the great heights more often and are less suited for this kind of hunting.

    • @Semendrija123
      @Semendrija123 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jafarhon Here you can see here that the racing pigeons are escaping the peregrine, but it is obvious that the peregrine falcon is faster:

      It didn’t catch the pigeon in the air. The pigeon was trying to hide. I couldn’t see what happened afterwards. No blood whatsoever on the pigeon so I don’t think it was caught by the falcon. Amazing chase though. I would say the pigeon outflew the falcon. It was just confused and didn’t know where to fly being put in such environment.

    • @LaurenMartins
      @LaurenMartins  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@codrinptpt no blood because the guy got there right away. Also falcons break the neck first, little blood before eating, not like hawks. The pigeon with its lighter wing loading tried to out climb the Falcon, that usually works with a weaker Falcon, but not this one, the Falcon wore that Pigeon to his last drop of stamina, the Pigeon out of breath and energy quickly run for cover as its typical of them when the first fly high tactic fails. Both birds flew like champions.

    • @codrinptpt
      @codrinptpt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@LaurenMartins thanks for your reply. I disagree though. The pigeon was taken out if its natural habitat so it didn’t know where to fly to/for cover. So I think what you’re doing is not fair game. Also, as I said before, the falcon didn’t catch the pigeon in the air. The pigeon outsmarted the falcon time after time. However, just like you said, they both flew like champions. Impressive birds both of them 💪🏻

    • @josephking1947

      @@codrinptpt When a falcon pursues a pigeon, if the pigeon outflys it in the air, by climbing above the falcon, if then the falcon sets its wings the pigeon has beaten it , if the falcon pushes the pigeon to the ground where it is looking for cover, the falcon has beaten it regardless if it catches it, releasing pigeons for falcons is hardly cruel they are perfectly evolved competitors of speed, they value the pigeon as much as the falcon.

    After watching this i feel there might be some racing homer pigeons who can outrun a falcon even in a straight line. 🙄 i even feel this pigeon could outrun maybe he jst got confused were to go.

    • @Semendrija123
      @Semendrija123 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately your feel has noting to do with reality. It's obvious from the video that the fit peregrine is faster in a straight line, and these pigeons are specifically trained for the competitions, and they are released multiple times from that location before the competitions starts. They know their way home and they know where to fly!
      The pigeon wasn't confused, it was outflown by the falcon, and it started to panic and search for the cover. You should also keep in mind that these falcons are immature birds in their first year, and they are slower than adult free/wild peregrines 😉

      @@Travel-life-pets so can almost any other bird falcon is hunting since the average hunting success rate for the peregrine falcon is around 30%.
      That doesn’t mean that any of them is faster in a strait line. It just means that they can use different flight techniques to escape.
      But put a great falcon that is serious of making a kill, and great pigeon over a desert where he can’t hide and you will see who is faster!
      My falcons have hunted numerous pigeons, and many have escaped, but none of them was faster 😉
