    Both Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson will forever be remembered as the two people responsible for the franchise's destruction. Forever and universally hated by fans.

      Seedy J funny. But I have an unrelated question. Rogue One showed us that ANH lied to us about it being the first big death star test.
      Strange that Obi-Wan acted as if this was the first time he felt a great disturbance of the force. Guess jedha city's millions didn't count as enough people lol =(.. . . . . . .

    They're using the same tactics as they used with Ghostbusters 2016. The film does badly, an actress suddenly gets harassed by "racists" and "misogynists" over Twitter, media goes wild and paints the fans in a bad light, etc. Same shit, different year.

    • @rayvenkman2087
      @rayvenkman2087 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Verklarte Nacht Whatever happened to taking the blame...
      Back then, a film director, producer or whoever else is responsible would accept the blame and carry on like what happened with Heaven's Gate(1980). None of them use that "misogyny" or "racist" bullcrap to avoid admitting that they're wrong.
      In fact they were way more earnest about accepting the blame than any of these narcissistic knuckleheads would ever want to do, given that their egos is the size of Betelgeuse. A shame really.

    The fan boycott was a huge success! We (the unhappy fans) proved to Disney that we are not mindless drones that will buy and see anything with the words STAR WARS in it! We showed that we are passionate fans and that Kathleen Kennedy’s vision is ruining what we have come to love and cherish since the debut of A New Hope in 1977. I hope that by some miracle they bring in someone with a vision and passion that the fans have showed with this boycott.

    • @Killzoneguy117
      @Killzoneguy117 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      There was a boycott? I just really didn't want to watch two Star Wars movies IN THE SAME 12 MONTH SPAN. Also, TLJ was awful and I've frankly just stopped being hyped for Star Wars as a result. God, now there's something I never thought I'd say.

    • @dr.boring7022
      @dr.boring7022 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use to be hyped seeing new rpisode of The Clone Wars, and Rebels. And the newer movies. But Solo? Lol, nope.

    • @zombielizard218
      @zombielizard218 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      garcianelson123 That Boycott was a massive failure, because it was thought up by triggered fanboys. Not people who understand economics. By boycotting Solo, you have successfully told Disney "I preferred Last Jedi to Solo", because they look at PROFIT, and if TLJ makes way more money (as it did), they will assume people liked it, and hated the movie which was basically designed to do exactly what the fans asked.

    • @dr.boring7022
      @dr.boring7022 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      zombieLISKlizard You're looking at it the wrong way. People pay for their ticket BEFORE they see the movie, not after. People were excited to see a new Episode in the Star Wars story, and Episode 8 absolutely failed at being a good movie. Just look at its reviews. After that, people got so fed up with Disney, they're done watching their movies.
      I have to partially agree with you, tho. People did want to see Episode 8, but even if it was a success, I just don't see myself going to see Solo at all. It's just not as interesting as Rogue One.

    • @FD2003Abc
      @FD2003Abc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @zombwhatever: Not only do you not understand what the term "triggered" means but you don't understand what is happening the SW universe.
      Last Jedi is a MONUMENTAL loser. Solo was just a WORSE MONUMENTAL loser. Disney is losing an AVALANCHE of money on their purchase of the franchise.
      There was no formal boycott. It is just the SW fan base just flipped off Disney back after Disney flipped them off in movie content, character development, SJW and most importantly -- DIRECTLY INSULTING those fans.

  • @julien8629
    @julien8629 6 ปีที่แล้ว +70

    It's not fatigue, it's not marketing, it's not other movies, it's not production issues. It's the decline in quality and the shitting all over fans. I now draw much greater pleasure from video essays documenting the rapid decline of star wars than from star wars movies themselves.

    Hate to say this but, Star Wars is dead. It's broken beyond repair since The Force Awakens/The Last Jedi made the Original Trilogy pointless. There's no hope left for this beloved series. Disney, LucasFilm and Kathleen Kennedy have destroyed something people have cherished.

      Master Vidxad 58 yeah, episode 9 has too much of a hurdle to leap, to try and stay cohesive with Last Jedi, and repair the damage, it can't be both. Episode 9 will be a colossal failure, like the industry hasn't seen before. The lead up to it will be particularly embarrassing for everyone, it will be cringeworthy when the trailer comes out.

      JubeiSenpai because most women are not Borg and you can't fool them by serving them a shitty movie while saying "but look it has veganas in it, you also have a vegana, you will love it". I personally feel like it is more insulting to women then anything.

    • @mOczakowski
      @mOczakowski 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ur right Sempai, original GB was fun & had great chemistry between the actors & characters along with a great storyline. New one had poor story, bad acting & poorly developed characters. It was basically made with hope to sell a bunch of crappy merchandise to little kids, they just forgot about those who buy that merchandise for the kids also sit in the theatre with them.
      Original GB was cool & fun just like original SW, and that what's missing with both. Marvel figured that out, and while I'm already tired of all the marvel movies coming out (whats next a, plumber that unclogs toilets w powers?), but at least the characters that continue being developed throughout the interconnected movies are enough to have me continue coming back to watch some of them.

      I didn't go to cinema to see soft reboot. I didn't go to cinema to see an explanation for a plot hole that wasn't even a plot hole to begin with. I didn't go to cinema to get my expectations subverted. And I didn't go to cinema to see how much the space dice matter. I went to cinema to see Star Wars...and I got nothing. Well actually I got the Vader scene from the "plot hole explanation that even wasn't one" , that was something I considered to be a pleasant surpsise.

      This quote shows perfectly why they failed: The upper management and analysts think they know how Star Wars works because they watched it once 10 years ago, without even knowing how exactly Rian Johnson messed it up. The fact that TLJ was compared to any SW movie other than the holiday special shows they just can't comprehend what's wrong with TLJ.
      They think "oh yeah, it's got light sabers, a bit of space combat, and we even made some birds that are much cuter than the ewoks. It can't possibly fail and we'll sell cute bird plushies like crazy!!!".

    I've heard a lot of "official" reasons for Solo's failure, none of which are the actual reason it failed. The reason the movie failed had nothing to do with the movie itself. It failed because the previous movie was nothing but 2 hours of Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson ramming a bunch of SJW and feminist bullshit down the audience's throat. Surprise, the audience didn't like that! They came to the movie to GET AWAY from that garbage for a couple of hours, to escape into a galaxy far, far away.

      The killing off of Han Solo was never Kathleen. Harrison figured that Han's death would have served well in The Empire Strikes Back. It was Lucas who managed to talk Ford into staying with it, and the whole business of Carbonite freezing was written the way it was so that he could have been lost or thawed out dead. My problem with Force Awakens wasn't the overly emphasized diversity, nor Han's death. It was the entire concept of the planetary death base.

    The Prequels were badly made. But they never ruined Star Wars for me. They're atleast a FUN kind of bad. You can bring friends over and watch the Prequels and you'd have a blast making fun of everything.
    But the new movies aren't a fun kind of bad, they're a bland kind of bad. You can't get any enjoyment out of how bad they are, you just sit there in confusion.
    Prequels=Batman & Robin
    Sequels=Fant4stic

      The prequels and sequels each have the exact opposite problems.
      The prequels have great concepts, attempted something new, and attempt to really build the universe but suffered from Lucas's clunky/overly perfunctory dialog and his directing failing to guide even great actors. But overall, at least Lucas cared about connecting stuff and making the two trilogies align.
      Nonetheless, the vast majority of its issues could've been easily cleared up by the employ of a more skilled screenwriter and a more actor-friendly (co-?)director.
      The sequels, while having had directors much better at getting the most out of their actors and far snappier dialog (even if it often abandoned the '30s/'40s movie speak of the first 6 movies for more anachronistically contemporary-sounding lines) have virtually no world building or lore expansion -- just a repackaging of old ideas and SJW messages for undertones. The writers of the sequels don't seem to care about the prior two trilogies thematically, just how they can use it to make money and push their story not continue the characters narrative logically but shock value twists. They're basically glorified fan fiction.

      >But overall, at least Lucas cared about connecting stuff and making the two trilogies align
      I love the prequels but what bullshit. Lucas didn't even remember Leia had memories of her mother and he's the one who wrote both that scene and the one where Padme dies during childbirth.

      Because that and Owen not remembering 3PO is such a big fucking deal in the grand scheme of the saga... : P (Even so, it's been kind of established in these movies that Leia's Force "specialty" is telepathy.)

    • @IRMentat
      @IRMentat 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      the prequels main issues were the direction to make everyone wooden, and some pacing issues (frequent 15 minute politic/talking segments in an adventure film). I read the books and felt a LOT better about them.
      The deathknells have issues because of terrible writing, pacing, plot structure and forced-politicing.
      Litteral killing off of franchise favourites who somehow ended up as lifelong loosers rather than heroes/figureheads/matured-characters
      luke backslid from being a self-confident hero in his prime into being a worried powerless hermit who tried to kill a student (and not only failed but failed so badly the student became everything he feared)
      han had a kid then ~left~ to go back to being a low-grade smuggler with debt problems
      Leia went from royalty to battle commander (of a desperate but hardened force), then mother, then a battle commander (of an abandoned and shunned splinter group).
      plus new characters that go nowhere (there is ZERO character development, people turn up, they do things, then they show that the power was withing them all along. and i'm not just talking mary sue here either, poe, fin, akbar, vice-admiral problematic, rose none of them develop and many of them make sudden decisions that had zero lead-up).

      Green Man If you give the fans what they want and have a sense of continuity, you can't really go wrong. Plus they've had many films to perfect the formula. Star Wars should've just stuck to what has worked for 40 years. Disney wanted to change it into something it wasn't to appeal to the largest demographic possible and they tried to do it in a very short space of time because Star Wars is just another cashcow. The only business I like to see fail, is big business. Even at the expense of one of my favourite entertainment franchises.

      Silenced, and people watch Star Wars just to "understand" that being a white heterosexual male is the worst thing to be in the universe. Marvel doesn't degrade their fans and their movies are creative. Star Wars attacks and insults their fan base, and their movies are extremely flat. Star Wars has brought zero creativity to their movies. They've simply been living in the past, or if they try something new, it's either horrible, or a smack in the face of their base. The only thing keeping Star Wars alive, is nostalgia and that is the only thing Disney has kept in their movies and without it, they would be flatlining.

Which was practically the majority. 4: ... He listened... And he did his best. If it wasn't for the fans, Jango Fett would not have appeared in episode 2. It's tough for an up and coming actress to break into a harsh business, especially when your first major role is as an uninteresting, unnecessary character in a terrible film. Made worse by that idiot Johnson antagonizing the fans and ignoring his own faults. To steal a quote from Bob Hoskins 'The director's arrogance was mistaken for talent.' I've seen if for a few years in the media now, not just with Star Wars either. I've seen writers, showrunners, actors and PR spokespeople for TV shows acting like arrogant narcissists who simply won't tolerate any criticism from members of the public.
      There's a sci-fi show in the UK called Doctor Who and they've been like this for over 10 years.
      It's actually quite fascinating because it certainly didn't seem to be like this before the middle of the 2000s. It seems to have become more evident during the rise of social media. Social media must do something to people's brains and turn people who already have a large ego into petulant nutcases.
      They seem to think the internet is just for them to promote themselves and their own work and feel that the only feedback the general public ought to respond with is glowing praise.
      If people don't criticise things then things just don't get better and improve, because the feedback wouldn't be there to help them remedy their shortcomings. If they were smart then they could recognise that much of the criticism is useful and helpful.
      It can't carry on like this because there will be a breaking point. A point will be arrived at where the media will have to stop looking down at the public as if they're excrement on their shoe, otherwise the public will outright reject them.

      Mutale Mwananshiku prequels actually had a good and consistent story. They suffered from trying to answer the questions no one was asking and from empty filler moments but actual story arc was meaningful and interesting.
      New movies have more plot holes than actual plot, story makes no sense, OT is devalued in the most awful manner possible and filler was not only omnipresent it was also disgustingly boring.
      Lucas made a big mistake and I think he regrets it deeply because he actually cared about the stories he created.

      The prequels were like a child doing a colouring book. All the lines were drawn, Lucas simply had to colour them. Yes, he used the wrong colours, and yes, he went outside the lines a lot. And I mean a lot. To the point where it looks like not so much a child has done it but someone with the 'mind of a child', so to speak. Still, his heart was in the right place in spite of his incompetence and we now look (somewhat, maybe) lovingly on that child's picture hanging there on the fridge. Doesn't make it good, certainly doesn't make it art but compared to the cold, cynical Star Wars of today?

      +Darkness1984 No Star Wars movie has ever come near the bad results of Solo. The very first one ran in theaters for almost one whole year(!), and then got shown again for some time when Empire Strikes Back got released. Now we have a SW movie that got worse results in the first weekend than Deadpool 2 in its second weekend - and Deadpool 2 is made for a far smaller audience and with a smaller budget.
      Episode 1 wasn't great but it's still much better than at least 3 of the 4 Disney SW movies - I admit I kinda liked Rogue One, but that's the only little highlight in a pile of disappointments.

    We gonna really need Episode IX to fail (and I'm pretty sure it won't cross the billion mark) to this people wake up? Fine by me, I have no intention of seeing that movie in theaters or paying to see it. Not even because of a principled boycott against Disney to send a message, but because it's coming from the worst set-up for a finale ever (Infinity War and Empire Strike Backs, that is how you set-up a finale), all the characters I love are either death and disgraced or are a joke (Chewie, R2-D2 and even C3-PO) and what left are this garbage uninteresting undeveloped SJW caricatures, the villain sucks and the best part. They hire back the fucking "mystery box" guy that didn't produce ONE SINGLE satisfying finale in his entire career to write and direct this film. That's here is a receipt to "greatness" obviously.

Won't cross 400 million domestically and probably won't cross 1 billion worldwide. If they get something worse than that I will be extremely happy, the dissatisfaction will be a lot bigger than I'm thinking. I guess it's will depend's on the overall quality of the movie too, but I bet this movie will no come close to VIII.

      I don't think many people understand that Disney don't actually mind if Star Wars fails. To them (and others) it was a bit of an outsider to begin with. They've always wanted to emulate its genuine success. What better way to surpass it than by acquiring and destroying it? It's sad in some ways, but then again... I guess it was bound to happen, especially since they felt they had the largest audience base at their disposal and they could go ahead and promote their nefarious agenda with it, failing to grasp that people will never accept those things.

    The Prequels were crappy movies... but The Last Jedi is a crappy movie that ALSO killed Star Wars excitement... almost universally. There are very few fans that are still excited about Star Wars after TLJ... and it goes beyond TLJ haters. People who thought it was okay, or who even liked it have less enthusiasm about Star Wars after that movie.
    Think about that for a minute. Even people who LIKED TLJ left the movie with no enthusiasm for what comes next. It's like a Star Wars appetite suppressant. Now THAT's a bizarre, and difficult thing to do, and somehow Rian Johnson pulled it off. That's why people think he killed Star Wars more than Lucas or Midichlorians or Jar Jar ever could.

    I'm just annoyed. No reasonable person is against diversity or inclusion. It is just blatantly obvious and is counter productive. There's a difference when the characters are well written and actually have purpose greater than diversity. Again no one is mad that Rose was an asian woman. People are upset that Rose's character was pointless and felt forced for the sake of "diversity". People are upset that Lando Calrissian is pansexual because it changes the star-wars lore and was just an unnecessary addition (also if a massive portion of the audience are children why would you add sexual themes?). A common theme here is that people aren't upset that there is "diversity", but more of the fact that this "diversity" adds no value to the films and feels forced and in my opinion disingenuous. Personally I feel that being disingenuous is almost more harmful to their "diversity" cause than someone being downright racist. Because by being disingenuous about it you not only exploit the "diverse" people but come off like a liar to everyone else. The only way these people can redeem themselves is take full ownership of the situation and stop dancing around the obvious issue, which again isn't that people are intolerant or racist, but that their movie was poorly written, had an offensive amount of plot holes, and wasted all the potential from Force Awakens.

    • @eyebelieve3

When Kathleen decided that the best way to build off the setting was to bury the setting, kill it if she had to, that said it all. It's NOT Star Wars! It hasn't been since Force Awakens. It's a twisted revenant someone cross-dressed and shoved out into the public view.

      Travis Wiley well I'm sorry that you don't have an eye for any aspect of filmmaking that actually matters and would actually wait 30 years for a 60 year old fictional character to "do something cool" on the big screen. Apparently humanizing the character with a central theme of learning from failure, as well as a deconstruction on the necessity of the Jedi order, isn't good enough for your manchild tastes. Sad.

    I love how this show opens like a PBS special, and then proceeds to be a hardcore video ripping into a beloved franchise that DEFINITELY needs to be ripped into at this point in time. I agree almost 100% with what you guys have been saying lately. What the hell have they done to Star Wars???

    I believe Campea had insight as to what the rumors are about Kennedy. So he jumped on it to get a video out there that he personally has the same views of her job performance as the fans who don't approve of her. Except his views, timing & reasoning about KK makes absolutely no sense with his stance on what Lucasfilm has always been up until that point. It isn't genuine.

      Actually, that's not enough. Even with ad-blockers installed, the company uses visitor statistics to maintain relationships with their advertisers. You really should utilize the web-archive, which takes a minute to operate, or utilize adding the clickbait site to your Windows HOSTS file.

    Solo would have done better if there weren't any trailers. The trailers showed big weaknesses in the story. I agree that Rian and Kathleen have ruined Star Wars. They have a left wing agenda and have completely ignored the Fans. Rian gets his thrills by going against the original message of Star Wars (Hope). This video is spot on. We are tired of the left agenda being crammed down our throats.

    Diversity by itself does not make anything better in film. Whoever is in the film is not the concern, I’ll love it as long as the story is amazing and the characters are well written!
    When did criticism become “hate” and “outrage” and get you labelled an “ist” or “Nazi”? I think this tactic is to allow people like Rolling Round Johnson and Pablo Hildago to attack fans, because it’s okay once they label us as such.

    Nope, it's easily more, and that's only those that have a level of consciousness about their dislike of Star Wars. I talk to a lot of people who shrug their shoulders and say "for some reason" they are through with Star Wars and can't exactly put their finger on why that is.

    IO9 is part of Gawker media. They are also connected with Kotaku. Kotaku was the gaming website that kicked off Gamergate. In fact yesterday if you googled Star Wars there were nothing but hit pieces about how toxic the fans were. It would be a shame if Star Wars goes through what Gamergate did......but this time i think it's different. Solo already failed at the box office where in Gamergate the video games kept selling like hot cakes. This whole thing is interesting to watch. I believe the Main Stream Media are trying to make sure this new wave of SJW Star Wars movies is what stays in place........but if no one is buying movie tickets then they dont have a case. (kind of why the media didn't go after Marvel Comics for getting rid of their new SJW stories because they weren't selling)

    Kelly Marie Tran is not the problem why would people harass her ... As for Rian "balloon head"Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy I will never watch another movie Produced or Directed by either of them and if they could get their heads out of there posteriors they would realize that they just f'd there career's up ! Oh well off to jobs better suited to them like janitorial staff of a projects building were they can serve the downtrodden minorities ... maybe it could be a learning experience for them both.

    That guy sure has a serious case of confirmation bias and ignoring the evidence. "If the franchise survived TPM and AOTC, we have hard time believing TLJ could have caused so much damage". A "hard time believing" that those films were actually better, and TLJ just ended up much worse? Not to mention the whole Internet battlefield, where the marketing team and crew members actively went for the fans to call them names and blame the audience? Pathetic.
