My girlfriend had never watched Star Wars until 3 years ago, then I showed her the trilogy and she fell in love with the characters and setting, and she wanted to go to the new ones more than I did. After the last couple movies she has the same opinion as most fans, is she sexist now? If they think they are reaching out to women with these new movies, they must not know many women.
My wife never saw a SW movie, but went with me to see the new ones. She thought TFA is ok, she loved RO, and she hated TLJ. As we walked out of the theatre she said, "That was shit." I legit tried to watch it a 2nd time, cuz of some people saying it gets better multiple viewings. But my 2nd time viewing, I turned it off 30 minutes in, cuz it's just so boring and insulting. The only thing that kept me watching to the end the 1st time was not knowing what happens next. All the news and controversy surrounding the movie is much more entertaining than the movie itself.

It became obvious that there was a social agenda too with Episode VIII, trying to elevate women. Which in my opinion is FINE, but they did it at the expense of the male characters. And they WASTED Leia too, and now she’s dead. It’s obvious they were going to elevate her in the next movie, but now they can’t.

How was she so inherently powerful with the force? How did Luke's lightsaber (the one lost in Cloud City no less and originally Vader's) get to where she could find it? What were the visions she was seeing with it? Who is Snoke and how is he so powerful? Who were the Knights of Ren? Why did Luke withdraw and leave that path to find him? KK and RJ answered this as follows... Nobody No reason Doesn't matter Nothing Nobody and no reason Doesn't matter, no longer exist Utter bullshit... Leias character is the only one ACTUALLY DEAD IN REAL LIFE, but she survived the whole movie, so that we can have a CGI monster in episode 9, but Luke and Han are dead, because reasons. You didn't rebut the issue of Luke wanting to be found, so he left a map, but then when he was found, didn't want to be found or leave and be the hero he has always been. You didn't address why Hold was still a terrible character, because her plot pivoted around being a huge douche to that same reckless character that you claim she couldn't tell the plan! If she was worried about him doing something rash, not telling him the plan would be 100% more likely to result in rash behavior. You can spout all the bull shit and do Disney's job and try to write a good story for them after the fact but they dropped the ball, and fell far far short of the mark of a good movie
The responses of certain Disney spokespeople are certainly not very informed and are not helping the situation, but neither is the toxic nature that I see portrayed by star wars fans on the internet. The hyperbolic attacks on Johson and the Last Jedi illustrate this. The movie has a lot of good aspects to it IMO, but it is not perfect either, the 90% of the Finn arc is utterly pointless, and sure is a SJW filled segment mostly. This does not bother me though because the movie has a cast of characters who all have different principles and perspectives on the world. As long as a movie takes this route; I could care less if SJW beliefs are spouted by some characters, as long as it does not propagandize the overall movie to only show one viewpoint as "right" and any other viewpoint as "wrong" then I am fine. This is clearly not the case in the Last Jedi, no viewpoints among the heroes are shown as "suoerior" to other viewpoints, they are merely that character's beliefs. Personally, I enjoy material with diverse viewpoints, obviously I enjoy a good homogeneous mix now and again as well, but if you guys prefer an echo chamber feel free just be honest. Most of the negative comments I see about the movie are massively biased, subjective opinions portrayed as an objective point or outright factually inaccurate. That Vader scene was amazing, I was previsible but an awesome callback to the OGs. They had a problem with her never having to face her own flaws, and having greater force powers than almost any character weve seen previously in Star Wars. Issues with Holdo were her being a horrible commander who endangered her own mission by being so secretive that she didnt decide to hold morale together by informing her people that she had a legitimate plan to get them out alive.

Sean McTiernan but even the EU indicated they phased out most of the clone troopers by the time episode 4 rolled about. A popular theory is that the troopers under Vader are still the 501st that served under him as Anakin. They also use that as a reason why only those troopers can actually aim.

It may not be dead, but it's certainly on life support. Allegedly leaked info on a recent meeting held by Bob Iger involving Kennedy and other Disney property managers, indicates that Iger is not happy with Kennedy's handling of LucasFilm and that she is gone as soon as a suitable replacement is named. The problem right now is that no one is crazed enough to want to try and clean up the mess Kennedy has made. Even Jar Jar Abrams turned down an offer to run the studio. At this point, it's looking fairly as though Disney will ultimately be forced to sell LucasFilm at a loss.
In that case, can we get Warner Bros. to take over LucasFilm?!? Also, Disney wanting to ultimately release Star Wars content on their Pay-to-view on-demand service will be a HUGE fail for hard core fans like myself. Disney screwed the pooch on this one. And as for Abrams, I don't think he ever truly got a chance to turn down the offer since I think Iger KNOWS that Abrams and Kennedy are 100% in agreement with one another. So swapping one for the other to run LucasFilms would mean no change whatsoever. I seriously doubt Abrams was ever offered to take Kennedy's place. As for who SHOULD take Kennedy's place, I can name about 100 Star War fans that would do a PHENOMENAL job.
I grew up with Star Wars prequels and fell in love with every single one of them. Then I watched originals and I grew to love them too. I played a craploads of star wars video games, read some comics and watched animated shows like Clone Wars. I was probably as much on board with Star Wars as any person can get. The Last Jedi turned me into a Star Wars hater. I HATE what Star Wars has become. Politics stuffed into my beloved franchise make me wanna puke. Feminist Robots, Pansexuals, radical changes in how the force works, original characters like Luke and Han killed off as sorry old farts who did not achieve anything but divorces and family dramas after RotJ, bullshit new leads like MaRey Sue, bullshit new villains like Emo Ren, bullshit plotholes like light-speeding through another ship, making an exhaust port a pre-made weakness, pulling a Palpatine level Sith Lord like Snoke out of your ass with no explanations and so much more. Enjoying Star Wars became impossible. I did not go to see Solo. I am not going to see any Star Wars movie ever after after what The Last Jedi did. I do not consider anything after RotJ or Clone Wars series canon. I consider it SJW attempt to destroy Star Wars completely and I hate everything they have done with a passion. And I know a lot of people like me. Most Star Wars fan I know are already off the hype train, some are on the hate train just like me. i watched TLJ on cable and was not happy with their comedic presentation. Leia flying through space? yeah? if i had not been a SW fan since 1977 and seen all the Lucas films and was watching the TLJ, i would not watch it again. it depends on attempts at comedy to make the film "work" too often and is defeatist much too much. the "flyboy" comments and other similar shite just turned me off. its just a mediocre space film now without trajectory or journey.

It's heart breaking to see what JJ Abrams, K. Kennedy, and Rian Johnson have done to the series that I grew up on. I can't afford to let them tear my heart out again, so I'm done with it. Just like watching the twin towers fall, at some point I had to say "That's it, man!!! Stop grieving over it because they're gone!!!"

Never mind the fact that a few of my all time absolute favorite characters in a movie are Ripley from the Aliens franchise, Vasquez from the 2nd Alien movie, Laura Connor from Terminator 1 and 2, -- and there's others, but I'll limit it to that for the sake of brevity. All of them VERY strong female protagonists; I really and truly enjoyed them all...because they were written properly and had logical motivations and character development! Ripley had experience dealing with the 'alien' from the first movie and used her bravery and valor to save Newt and destroy the Alien queen (and many other of the xenomorphs); Vasquez was a kick ass space marine who was shown to be both physically and mentally strong from the implicated months of training beforehand to be a space marine to begin with, and killed many xenomorphs herself with no fear, ultimately sacrificing herself buy some time to help Ripely escape; Sarah Connor being strong and never giving up to protect her life so her son could be born and ultimately help save humanity in the future from the robotic army take-over. These were characters that were developed properly and whose abilities, competencies, back stories, and end-goals made sense and were developed adequately. Rey's character makes no logical sense what so ever. How does she defeat the strongest Jedi of all time, Luke, and Kylo, who studied for months -- if not years -- under that Luke with herself never being taught to fight properly with the force, after picking up a lightsaber for the very first time merely days before (again with no training how to use it)? For SJW Kathy Kennedy's sake (and ego) I guess she's just some magical feminist Jesus who can do anything and do no wrong. The 'immaculate feminine power of divinity' I suppose. Give me a fucking break. That's utter bullshit and ridiculous on all facets as a character to be taken seriously to any degree what so ever. As for the purpled-haired lady, yeah nice plan, bitch. Wait until almost everyone and your entire fleet is dead and destroyed, THEN ram into the flagship Deathstar. If that was your plan, why not do it WAY beforehand and fucking save thousands of lives? If you she was truly brave she would have done it BEFORE the fleet was entirely wiped out and almost everyone was killed -- now that would've been a true act of valor, self-sacrifice and bravery. A lot of plot holes, terrible characters and broken rules that were already established. Even if it looks good, it doesn't matter, it was so poorly written it is easily one of the worst movies ever made for star wars.

But I'll say that majority of the main cast of the new Trilogy already have more clear motivations and understandable actions from a human-perspective. Given that I saw an interview where Lucas said that Star Wars was all about the rise (I, II), fall (III, IV, V), and redemption (VI) of Anakin Skywalker, I stand firmly by my belief from years ago that VII, VIII, and IX never should have happened. They should do more stand alone spin-off stories.

I liked Rogue One too. I think a lot of people form their opinions based on objective critiques they find online rather than thinking for themselves. Objectively, you can find a lot of flaws, but it wasn't bad!
Rogue One was a definite fangasm. I think the movie had ups and downs but among the all 4 Disney released, I like it at the best. They did wonderful job using Vader and honestly they gave us one of the best space battles EVER made in all of Star Wars.
I don't know about the rest of you, but as far as I care, we still have all the books and video games of Legends, and Legends is the only canon I care for. Let the SJWs have their shitty fanfic. We can always go on an Old Republic adventure with Revan and Bastila, go to the Jedi Academy and study under Kyle Katarn or go on missions with Delta. All of those are a hundred times better then TFA and a billion times better then TLJ.

As long as Kathleen Kennedy is still at Lucasfilm, anything that comes out is an advancement, but not a victory. Rian Johnson, JJ Abrams, and Kathleen Kennedy all need to go. Lucasfilm needs to take a step back, look at what has made the franchise survive since 1983, and return to that. Give us a film that has relatable characters, a villain that is intriguing, fantasy, adventure, and a fun experience.

Rogue One was kinda nice. Jyn's doll was probably sucky. In my opinion it's the only decent new Star Wars film. Not perfect... but it looked a lot like a fan-made film, and that's nice. People who are really into Star Wars worked behind the scenes on that one. They paid homage to George Lucas' saga, knowing they couldn't shit all over it or make something as good as his work. They approached it with respect, and that's a lot more than any other Star Wars film under Disney can claim to have done.

The one thing the Prequels did right was pleasing progressive elements WITHOUT throwing it in your face. There were females all over the place in the Prequels except they put them around in a way that wasn't obnoxious. You just had ladies sitting here and there in the Jedi council, the camera didn't make a big deal out of this. Further, the films had new black characters but, again, didn't make a big deal about it. The Prequels did a lot of the stuff people are now complaining about but in a way that didn't command our attention. I guess the best way I can put it is that the Prequels were not DESIGNED to be a *platform* for Progressive ideals, meanwhile, that's almost all theese new movies have been: A platform. Well, to be honest, TFA only was successful due to the big gap between the older movies. TFA was supposed to launch a brand new trilogy!! What's greater than that?!! However, TFA also set the stage for TLJ to be such a dismal failure. TFA introduced all of the boring and stale characters; TFA introduced the First Order with really no explanation as to why that organization is NOT the rebel force, fighting against the New Republic; TFA demolished the neutered characters like Han Solo, making him look like a geriatric fool playing a privateer (yet again) - I'm sure you get the point. TFA was a precursor to the current goat rodeo we're witnessing, and should NOT get a pass.
Star Wars died when Disney bought Lucasfilm and then said FU to the fans as they shredded the original Expanded Universe time line. Yes, there were a lot of subpar stories, but it wasn't all bad and all of the stories really fleshed out the SW universe. The only good SW show Disney has done so far with the license was "Rebels". As for "The Last Jedi", I didn't dislike it for the characters, the story and what they did with said characters was what destroyed it as a proper SW film.
Disney didn't kill the EU, Lucas did with the prequels. I remember one of my friends hated Episode 2 when it came out because it ruined the awesome backstory that Bobba Fett had. Disney just kept on killing it.
I feel if they wanted to write Rey a little more successful they could've used my favorite jedi as a reference, Ahsoka Tano. I mean make Rey's story unique, but look at the Asoka's Story. Nothing was handed to her, she had her shortcomings but learned from them. She had to go on many journeys and actually developed as a character and we the viewers went on her journeys with her.

The Star Wars Universe is dead to most hard core fans. HCF all pretty much read the 60+ books written by famous writers and followed the progression of the core SW characters and their children. All those books sold more than a Million copies. There were very memorable new characters introduced like Mara Jade Skywalker, Ben Skywalker, Jason Solo, Jianna Solo, and Anakin Solo. These books were taken as lore until Disney's SJW Star Wars. The female characters especially Mara Jade Skywalker and Jianna Solo were fan favorites because they were great leaders, like Mara became a Master and taught combat at the Jedi Academy and Jianna became the leader of the most famous Rogue Squadron. There were plenty of Strong female characters that Disney could have latched on to, but instead they created new characters that pretty much stunk up the place. Overpowered female leads and Emotionally challenged male leads pretty much sunk the ship. The one character that should have been at the forefront of the new Star Wars, Luke Skywalker, was pretty much a child like figure who ran away from his problems and hid. His only contribution to the story was, well nothing. He was there and then he was not.
I can't find most of the books. The editor in my country changed when Disney took over, and they are releasing the old canon books under the new Legends banner slower than a frozen tauntaun

The thing that killed Star Wars is modernism; this overly cynical and pessimistic way of viewing everything whereby characters we used to love are now flawed to the point of being unlikable. Movie directors over-think these things. We don't care whether the characters are realistically flawed, we just want to see characters we like doing cool things--that's really all fans care about. If Luke isn't the Luke we've always known, then you're effectively shitting all over the character in the name of "realism". It's not only pretentious, but bad. It just doesn't work. Fans get it. Movie-directors don't. They think too much.
WestRyder star wars was a different universe...the expanded universe flowed almost perfectly...I've read 329 of the novels...I liked to read and star wars was my escape from real life...there were very few parts where they mixed up or overlapped each other incorrectly and it made an awesome timeline...it was full and filling up as we went... Then Disney killed it...they got rid of my favorite characters and removed my favorite stories...my favorite movie was episode 6 ROTJ and my favorite story happened a few years after it with the x-wing series and them the Thrawn trilogy...when you tear those away you habe nothing. Those series are why star wars survived and removing those is part of why it died...it's ridiculous and sad
I think things tend to work out better when you hire a separate writer and director. The Prequels suffered from Lucas insisting he do everything himself. I think Empire became such a great film because of the friction between George Lucas and Irvin Kershner. I'm still trying to figure out who thought it was a great idea to give the keys to the Falcon over the Abrams, but I digress. I am a fan of Alias and Lost, but both are seriously flawed. Star Trek Reboot was pretty good. Into Darkness made me cringe just about every other scene. The Force Awakens introduced some neat characters, on top of pointless mysteries and useless villains. (Don't get me started on Phasma!) Not all movie directors are out of touch. When they announced that Ron Howard was taking over Solo, I was excited. I've seen the film multiple times now, and wish it didn't have to suffer the backlash of Episodes VII and VIII. And I fear Episode IX. Abrams doesn't know how to wrap up a story. He never set up an arc when he first sat down. Never created a plan to follow. No wonder Trevor left the project - he had to both react to what had come before, and still write an ending that made sense of it all.
Picture an 80's-era toy commercial for the Last Jedi Figures. Most of the characters fighting each other are resistance women assaulting resistance men. Rose tazes Finn. Leia shoots Poe. Plan to resurrect Star Wars: 1. Declare the Disney films so-far as non-canon (they did it to the old Extended Universe after all). 2. Raid the old ExUni for the good story ideas. The Thrawn Trilogy could do nicely with some tweaks. 3. Cast new actors for old characters. I love Mark Hamill too, but he's not quite able to play an action star in person any more. Have him come on as an acting coach for the guy who will play Luke so the newbie gets it right. 4. STOP WITH THE POLITICAL BS. Star Wars was always a space opera, and you can express some philosophy in that format that can influence political thought in fans, but outright shoving modern politics down their throats is preachy BS that both alienates the fans and dates the product.
The problem is I'm not sure there's time to revive star wars. I think you're correct, and no.1 is essential, but to do that with enough of a gap for the next trilogy to start will make most of the original fans 60+

The core of the original trilogy was that it was a fairy tale about discovering your true self (Luke discovered he'd already become a Jedi, Leia discovered that she could love and also be strong, and Han discovered that he could be happiest by staying put). Yes, there were some subversive elements - normally Luke would be the Leader and Han the Lancer in the story, but Han was the one who accepted a Leadership mantle while Luke became the Heart of the basic trio. What Rian Johnston loved about Star Wars was the subversion of the tropes, so he made a movie that subverted the core of Star Wars, turning it from a fairy tale about discovering your true self into a parody of "You're nothing, a nobody," and "Don't fight what you hate, save what you love!" Those themes carried over into his and Kathleen Kennedy's interactions with the fans: "If you don't like this movie it's because you're nothing, a nobody," and "If you don't love our movie then you must hate the demographic we were actually aiming for."
Here is how you save Lucasfilm and StarWars: (1) Disney sells Lucasfilm to Dave Feloni. (2) Execute Order 66 on ALL the SJWs in Lucasfilm....or just fire them. (3) Hire people who are actual fans of the show and the Legends Canon to continue to show. You didn't rebut the issue of Luke wanting to be found, so he left a map, but then when he was found, didn't want to be found or leave and be the hero he has always been. You didn't address why Hold was still a terrible character, because her plot pivoted around being a huge douche to that same reckless character that you claim she couldn't tell the plan! If she was worried about him doing something rash, not telling him the plan would be 100% more likely to result in rash behavior.

The responses of certain Disney spokespeople are certainly not very informed and are not helping the situation, but neither is the toxic nature that I see portrayed by star wars fans on the internet.
The hyperbolic attacks on Johson and the Last Jedi illustrate this. The movie has a lot of good aspects to it IMO, but it is not perfect either, the 90% of the Finn arc is utterly pointless, and sure is a SJW filled segment mostly. This does not bother me though because the movie has a cast of characters who all have different principles and perspectives on the world. As long as a movie takes this route; I could care less if SJW beliefs are spouted by some characters, as long as it does not propagandize the overall movie to only show one viewpoint as "right" and any other viewpoint as "wrong" then I am fine. This is clearly not the case in the Last Jedi, no viewpoints among the heroes are shown as "suoerior" to other viewpoints, they are merely that character's beliefs. Personally, I enjoy material with diverse viewpoints, obviously I enjoy a good homogeneous mix now and again as well, but if you guys prefer an echo chamber feel free just be honest. Most of the negative comments I see about the movie are massively biased, subjective opinions portrayed as an objective point or outright factually inaccurate.

I grew up with Star Wars prequels and fell in love with every single one of them. Then I watched originals and I grew to love them too. I played a craploads of star wars video games, read some comics and watched animated shows like Clone Wars. I was probably as much on board with Star Wars as any person can get. The Last Jedi turned me into a Star Wars hater. I HATE what Star Wars has become. Politics stuffed into my beloved franchise make me wanna puke. Feminist Robots, Pansexuals, radical changes in how the force works, original characters like Luke and Han killed off as sorry old farts who did not achieve anything but divorces and family dramas after RotJ, bullshit new leads like MaRey Sue, bullshit new villains like Emo Ren, bullshit plotholes like light-speeding through another ship, making an exhaust port a pre-made weakness, pulling a Palpatine level Sith Lord like Snoke out of your ass with no explanations and so much more. Enjoying Star Wars became impossible. I did not go to see Solo. I am not going to see any Star Wars movie ever after after what The Last Jedi did. I do not consider anything after RotJ or Clone Wars series canon. I consider it SJW attempt to destroy Star Wars completely and I hate everything they have done with a passion. And I know a lot of people like me. Most Star Wars fan I know are already off the hype train, some are on the hate train just like me. Never mind the fact that a few of my all time absolute favorite characters in a movie are Ripley from the Aliens franchise, Vasquez from the 2nd Alien movie, Laura Connor from Terminator 1 and 2, -- and there's others, but I'll limit it to that for the sake of brevity. All of them VERY strong female protagonists; I really and truly enjoyed them all...because they were written properly and had logical motivations and character development! Ripley had experience dealing with the 'alien' from the first movie and used her bravery and valor to save Newt and destroy the Alien queen (and many other of the xenomorphs); Vasquez was a kick ass space marine who was shown to be both physically and mentally strong from the implicated months of training beforehand to be a space marine to begin with, and killed many xenomorphs herself with no fear, ultimately sacrificing herself buy some time to help Ripely escape; Sarah Connor being strong and never giving up to protect her life so her son could be born and ultimately help save humanity in the future from the robotic army take-over. These were characters that were developed properly and whose abilities, competencies, back stories, and end-goals made sense and were developed adequately. Rey's character makes no logical sense what so ever. How does she defeat the strongest Jedi of all time, Luke, and Kylo, who studied for months -- if not years -- under that Luke with herself never being taught to fight properly with the force, after picking up a lightsaber for the very first time merely days before (again with no training how to use it)? For SJW Kathy Kennedy's sake (and ego) I guess she's just some magical feminist Jesus who can do anything and do no wrong. The 'immaculate feminine power of divinity' I suppose. Give me a fucking break. That's utter bullshit and ridiculous on all facets as a character to be taken seriously to any degree what so ever. As for the purpled-haired lady, yeah nice plan, bitch. Wait until almost everyone and your entire fleet is dead and destroyed, THEN ram into the flagship Deathstar. If that was your plan, why not do it WAY beforehand and fucking save thousands of lives? That was no act of bravery; only one of myopic stupidity and utter last minute desperation. If you she was truly brave she would have done it BEFORE the fleet was entirely wiped out and almost everyone was killed -- now that would've been a true act of valor, self-sacrifice and bravery.

Given that I saw an interview where Lucas said that Star Wars was all about the rise (I, II), fall (III, IV, V), and redemption (VI) of Anakin Skywalker, I stand firmly by my belief from years ago that VII, VIII, and IX never should have happened. They should do more stand alone spin-off stories.

Rogue One was a definite fangasm. I think the movie had ups and downs but among the all 4 Disney released, I like it at the best. They did wonderful job using Vader and honestly they gave us one of the best space battles EVER made in all of Star Wars.
I don't know about the rest of you, but as far as I care, we still have all the books and video games of Legends, and Legends is the only canon I care for. Let the SJWs have their shitty fanfic. We can always go on an Old Republic adventure with Revan and Bastila, go to the Jedi Academy and study under Kyle Katarn or go on missions with Delta. All of those are a hundred times better then TFA and a billion times better then TLJ.

As long as Kathleen Kennedy is still at Lucasfilm, anything that comes out is an advancement, but not a victory. Rian Johnson, JJ Abrams, and Kathleen Kennedy all need to go. Lucasfilm needs to take a step back, look at what has made the franchise survive since 1983, and return to that. Give us a film that has relatable characters, a villain that is intriguing, fantasy, adventure, and a fun experience.
I can sum up what the missing element is: The mystery and joy of the force itself, backed by mythology that is as old as humanity itself.
They had the opportunity to use Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy and elected to plagiarize the 1977 original. And this is what we have now. I won't watch another Star Wars movie in the theater, and perhaps not ever.
The Last Jedi failed because Ryan Johnson deliberately went out of his way to not meet fan expectations. Solo failed because Kathleen hired her neighbor as Han Solo and not someone more worthy of the character. People who are really into Star Wars worked behind the scenes on that one. They paid homage to George Lucas' saga, knowing they couldn't shit all over it or make something as good as his work. They approached it with respect, and that's a lot more than any other Star Wars film under Disney can claim to have done.

Rogue One was awesome and gave me hope for the franchise. Erso's action figure didn't sell for one reason, Rogue One is not a kid's movie, the themes were too dark, I couldn't show that to my 7 year old. Still a good movie though.

The one thing the Prequels did right was pleasing progressive elements WITHOUT throwing it in your face. There were females all over the place in the Prequels except they put them around in a way that wasn't obnoxious. You just had ladies sitting here and there in the Jedi council, the camera didn't make a big deal out of this. Further, the films had new black characters but, again, didn't make a big deal about it. The Prequels did a lot of the stuff people are now complaining about but in a way that didn't command our attention.
I guess the best way I can put it is that the Prequels were not DESIGNED to be a *platform* for Progressive ideals, meanwhile, that's almost all theese new movies have been: A platform.

Solo failed in the box office because of the constant attacks to the true fan base and how horrendous Last Jedi was. Most likely Ep 9 will suffer the same fate. For me, The SW saga ends at Return of the Jedi. Anything after that are just fan movies with big budgets.

Force awakens was okay, it was mainly interesting because it seemed like it introduced tons of mystery and that the following movies were gonna be great, rogue one was spectacular, but then last Jedi shat on everything force awakens started
Well, to be honest, TFA only was successful due to the big gap between the older movies. TFA was supposed to launch a brand new trilogy!! What's greater than that?!! However, TFA also set the stage for TLJ to be such a dismal failure. TFA introduced all of the boring and stale characters; TFA introduced the First Order with really no explanation as to why that organization is NOT the rebel force, fighting against the New Republic; TFA demolished the neutered characters like Han Solo, making him look like a geriatric fool playing a privateer (yet again) - I'm sure you get the point. TFA was a precursor to the current goat rodeo we're witnessing, and should NOT get a pass.

Star Wars died when Disney bought Lucasfilm and then said FU to the fans as they shredded the original Expanded Universe time line. Yes, there were a lot of subpar stories, but it wasn't all bad and all of the stories really fleshed out the SW universe. The only good SW show Disney has done so far with the license was "Rebels". As for "The Last Jedi", I didn't dislike it for the characters, the story and what they did with said characters was what destroyed it as a proper SW film.
Disney didn't kill the EU, Lucas did with the prequels. I remember one of my friends hated Episode 2 when it came out because it ruined the awesome backstory that Bobba Fett had. Disney just kept on killing it.

I feel if they wanted to write Rey a little more successful they could've used my favorite jedi as a reference, Ahsoka Tano. I mean make Rey's story unique, but look at the Asoka's Story. Nothing was handed to her, she had her shortcomings but learned from them. She had to go on many journeys and actually developed as a character and we the viewers went on her journeys with her.
But where wouls be the fun in that when we need avatars (whether be Ridley, Jones, and Clarke) and a pseudo telling of how Kathleen got to where she is.

there was nothing subversive about The Last Jedi. Being subversive is surprising someone by going in a direction they didn't expect. TLJ didn't surprise us with anything, it was deconstruction. It saw to burning down the house, not just George's but even JJ's work was demolished. It didn't give us anything new in place of what we had. It left this big empty void.
I can live with bad movies. Also a big Godzilla fan. But a bad movie that won't stop preaching at me, leading to bad comics, novels, and video games that also won't stop preaching at me is a new low. One that you can't come back from. The only good thing going now is the cartoons. The old movies were bad but at least the EU had some good stuff, but that's all been retconned.
Roared back to life after 2015? What? Prequels were disappointing but star wars was as strong as ever in the mid 2000s...Maybe even stronger than in the 90s. Both decades were great for fans in my opinion.

The Star Wars Universe is dead to most hard core fans. HCF all pretty much read the 60+ books written by famous writers and followed the progression of the core SW characters and their children. All those books sold more than a Million copies. There were very memorable new characters introduced like Mara Jade Skywalker, Ben Skywalker, Jason Solo, Jianna Solo, and Anakin Solo. These books were taken as lore until Disney's SJW Star Wars. The female characters especially Mara Jade Skywalker and Jianna Solo were fan favorites because they were great leaders, like Mara became a Master and taught combat at the Jedi Academy and Jianna became the leader of the most famous Rogue Squadron. There were plenty of Strong female characters that Disney could have latched on to, but instead they created new characters that pretty much stunk up the place. Overpowered female leads and Emotionally challenged male leads pretty much sunk the ship. The one character that should have been at the forefront of the new Star Wars, Luke Skywalker, was pretty much a child like figure who ran away from his problems and hid. His only contribution to the story was, well nothing. He was there and then he was not.

Remember, Last Jedi only got 46% public approval ratings on Rottentomatoes by ignoring the large number of people that gave it a REALLY bad review. When these are included, the public rating drops to about 26%

The thing that killed Star Wars is modernism; this overly cynical and pessimistic way of viewing everything whereby characters we used to love are now flawed to the point of being unlikable. Movie directors over-think these things. We don't care whether the characters are realistically flawed, we just want to see characters we like doing cool things--that's really all fans care about. If Luke isn't the Luke we've always known, then you're effectively shitting all over the character in the name of "realism". It's not only pretentious, but bad. It just doesn't work. Fans get it. Movie-directors don't. They think too much.

WestRyder star wars was a different universe...the expanded universe flowed almost perfectly...I've read 329 of the novels...I liked to read and star wars was my escape from real life...there were very few parts where they mixed up or overlapped each other incorrectly and it made an awesome timeline...it was full and filling up as we went...
Then Disney killed it...they got rid of my favorite characters and removed my favorite stories...my favorite movie was episode 6 ROTJ and my favorite story happened a few years after it with the x-wing series and them the Thrawn trilogy...when you tear those away you habe nothing.
Those series are why star wars survived and removing those is part of why it died...it's ridiculous and sad

I think things tend to work out better when you hire a separate writer and director. The Prequels suffered from Lucas insisting he do everything himself. I think Empire became such a great film because of the friction between George Lucas and Irvin Kershner.
I'm still trying to figure out who thought it was a great idea to give the keys to the Falcon over the Abrams, but I digress. I am a fan of Alias and Lost, but both are seriously flawed. Star Trek Reboot was pretty good. Into Darkness made me cringe just about every other scene. The Force Awakens introduced some neat characters, on top of pointless mysteries and useless villains. (Don't get me started on Phasma!)
Not all movie directors are out of touch. When they announced that Ron Howard was taking over Solo, I was excited. I've seen the film multiple times now, and wish it didn't have to suffer the backlash of Episodes VII and VIII.
And I fear Episode IX. Abrams doesn't know how to wrap up a story. He never set up an arc when he first sat down. Never created a plan to follow. No wonder Trevor left the project - he had to both react to what had come before, and still write an ending that made sense of it all.
Picture an 80's-era toy commercial for the Last Jedi Figures. Most of the characters fighting each other are resistance women assaulting resistance men. Rose tazes Finn. Leia shoots Poe. Rey strikes Luke down with a lightsaber. Fun for the whole family! Also: not many people mention that there were THREE COMAS in TLJ (Finn, Leia, Rose Tico).

Plan to resurrect Star Wars:
1. Declare the Disney films so-far as non-canon (they did it to the old Extended Universe after all).
2. Raid the old ExUni for the good story ideas. The Thrawn Trilogy could do nicely with some tweaks.
3. Cast new actors for old characters. I love Mark Hamill too, but he's not quite able to play an action star in person any more. Have him come on as an acting coach for the guy who will play Luke so the newbie gets it right.
4. STOP WITH THE POLITICAL BS. Star Wars was always a space opera, and you can express some philosophy in that format that can influence political thought in fans, but outright shoving modern politics down their throats is preachy BS that both alienates the fans and dates the product.

Also they could make a good movie based upon the Rogue Squadron novels. Especially with the one about infiltrating Coruscant to disable its shield. Just imagine seeing this on a big screen - everything from undercover missions deep inside the planet to a massive battle above it! And on top of that - giant star dreadnought ripping its way through the ground and buildings it was buried in. I bet that would be cool to see, definetely better than disney's shit. And since it is about rogue squadron, they won't even need an old cast!

Solo was a decent movie. The problem lies in the The Last Jedi. People don't want to spend their money on something that could ruin their childhood. Johnson ruined Luke Skywalker for me. Killing Luke's positive attitude. The only way to save it is to remake The Last Jedi and pretend Johnson's never existed.

So you've been on the Star Wars sub reddit?
The core of the original trilogy was that it was a fairy tale about discovering your true self (Luke discovered he'd already become a Jedi, Leia discovered that she could love and also be strong, and Han discovered that he could be happiest by staying put). Yes, there were some subversive elements - normally Luke would be the Leader and Han the Lancer in the story, but Han was the one who accepted a Leadership mantle while Luke became the Heart of the basic trio. Leia played the damsel at least once in each film but showed leadership skills at all other times often clashing with the two men. What Rian Johnston loved about Star Wars was the subversion of the tropes, so he made a movie that subverted the core of Star Wars, turning it from a fairy tale about discovering your true self into a parody of "You're nothing, a nobody," and "Don't fight what you hate, save what you love!"
Those themes carried over into his and Kathleen Kennedy's interactions with the fans: "If you don't like this movie it's because you're nothing, a nobody," and "If you don't love our movie then you must hate the demographic we were actually aiming for."
Here is how you save Lucasfilm and StarWars:
(1) Disney sells Lucasfilm to Dave Feloni.
(2) Execute Order 66 on ALL the SJWs in Lucasfilm....or just fire them.
(3) Hire people who are actual fans of the show and the Legends Canon to continue to show.
(4) Make sure the next cartoon series this fall is as good as Rebels was, or better....meaning Ahsoka be in it and Ezra and Sabine getting together like they should!
