Noro Morales is a renowned musician, composer, and bandleader, known for his contributions to the Latin music genre, particularly in the fields of salsa and Afro-Cuban jazz. Born on December 24, 1937, in Caguas, Puerto Rico, Morales began his musical journey at a young age, studying piano and percussion.
Morales’ professional career took off in the 1950s when he moved to New York City. He played with various bands and musicians, including Eddie Palmieri, Tito Rodríguez, and Tito Puente. In 1963, Morales formed his own band, the Noro Morales Orchestra. This ensemble became a significant force in the Latin music scene and helped define the salsa sound that would dominate the genre in the decades to come.
His most famous compositions include “Mambo Caliente,” “Llegó la Primavera,” “La Nueva Cosecha,” and “No Me Llores Más.” These songs have been covered by numerous artists and remain popular to this day.
He has also contributed significantly to music education by teaching at institutions such as the Manhattan School of Music and the New School University.
