- Once a thriving mountainous city in North Carolina, glistening with art and historic architecture, Asheville is now a wasteland of splintered houses, crushed cargo containers and mud-covered highways. Robert Haynie, who lives in Black Mountain just outside Asheville, said he doesn't even recognize the community he's lived in his whole life.

Im southwest VA Russell wise county line. Power still out to thousands roads still blocked we got 10 inch of rain in 2 days. My roof is screwed from wind . Already cut 6 elderly people out so they could get help. Bridges gone . Houses unseated off foundation.. no one is talking about anywhere but there ..

My son lives in Asheville. It's so bad. Towns have been destroyed from Florida up. A very very nasty hurricane. It was huge and a cat 4! My heart goes out to all affected. ❤

We shouldn't just rush to rebuild - we should step back and ask if there should be structures and critical infrastructure at all in some of these places. This is an opportunity to return the natural flood plains to nature and perhaps rebuild higher up in the hills around there. Just reracking the pins is short sighted since this will happen again, and probably within 5 years.

They need female hygiene supplies. You all know what I am talking about. Please put them in the packages being delivered with body wipes and baby wipes. I know because someone who cut off has not got any. Use socks or torn flannel fold if you have none sheets torn and folded, or baby diapers cut up. No way to get it. Mention it because it needs to go in emergency kits, for future storms and emergencies. Thank you. Peace!

I get to Asheville on occasion, I am saddened by this level of damage and losses for folks in the mountains, the only thing I can do is pray for the familys,workers and send some money to a church,in Boone and Red Cross,my brother is helping too he is is Scranton PA area
too bad we don't have the tech to predict these events, we can model storms, we can model anticipated rainfall amounts, why can we not apply this day to topography maps and deploy some computing AI tech to tell us how bad it's gonna be and tell folks to get the heck out.....or is it just too much trouble to ask ?
Its not only Asheville get some boots on the ground to other devastated towns that were lost. All needs to be be covered. & helped!
