So... obviously, it's completely within your own discretion as to how you handle these types of challenges. But, as a viewer.. I honestly wouldn't have a problem with you making regular backups of the game/character, and if you die, reverting back to the last backup. The only reason I used to make backup saves for mine, was because I run the game on my PC, but stream it (via Steam Remote Play) to my laptop in another room. The problem with that, was that I was using a cable to connect the 2 computers, and every so often, the connection would get interrupted, and I had to DC the stream or the game would just crash. And... PZ isn't the kind of game you can just stand idle for 5-45 seconds (the amount of time it would/could take to reconnect to my PC & the game). Seemingly more often than not, it would be a death sentence to stand idle in that way. And since that death wasn't really something that was my fault, I would permit myself to restore the save files to the backup save I made before starting up the game that morning. If I DID legit die, because I was over-run, or too slow, or just messed up somehow, then I would respawn, and rush to where I'd died to kill my zombie self and reclaim all my gear/ect. It was only when I died, through no fault of my own, that I would allow myself to revert to a back-up. I feel like that is something that would be moderately acceptable for you to do in some of these challenges, so long as you acknowledge that you're doing it, and keep a running tally of how many times you'd died and had to revert to a back-up save. I'm sure you won't... as it doesn't really seem your style. BUT, I just thought I'd give voice to my opinion that; it wouldn't be all that bad if you opted to do so. Great video, btw! 1:04:04 *Aktually* they're not. This seems to be a pretty common misconception. I think this idea has grown as we understand that both bows and crossbows were around at the same time, therefore each has to have *something* that the other doesn't. When you look at the poundage's of crossbows, they've often stated as a lot higher, which makes it seem like they must be more inherently powerful. In truth, crossbows (most of all steel limbed medieval ones) have very short power strokes, which means that a high poundage can be deceptively weak (relatively speaking) - and the steel limbed bows (the highest poundages you'll likely see) are fearsomely inefficient. Poundage isn't everything. As for why crossbows were around at the same time as bows; there's a few things, but I think the biggest is that they're easy to use. You can pretty much train anyone to shoot and load a high poundage crossbow in a day - but a bow of the same power (as in, energy on target) will take years of slowly training up to be able to shoot that powerful bow. Other than that, there's "little" things like a crossbow can be loaded and held at full draw, ready to shoot, which seemingly helped them become a common sight in medieval hunting.
ppl forget how jacked and skilled longbow men were, some of those bows are nearly impossible to draw by modern archers cuz they took a lifetime of conditioning. A lot of high poundage crossbows had mechanisms to load them easily (like levers or pulleys)

@@josephmatthews7698 That's the tricky part. Took me a bit to finish this video and realized I'll likely have a lot of bug problems. Maybe I'll check out mod lists and stuff when I have time.
How so? Project zomboids creators literally want this to be possible. It's the whole reason for their newest update. I'm confused. You take someone's excuse in a video as fact for the real world
Bird waste is high in the same stuff guano is, and some islands in the south Pacific were mined out of their heavily built up stocks of bird wastes, some of those islands had been hosting seagulls and albatross-like birds for thousands of years, and the bird wastes on those islands didn't really go away. Nauru is one of those islands. Guano's easier to just build up in more reasonable locations, due to it coming from bats and in most areas bats prefer caves while in those same areas birds prefer *wherever* and so the bird wastes don't build up in a way that's easily harvest-able by humans. Even after it was less useful for gunpowder, it was still useful for different explosives production and also fertilizer production (even to this day).

defo my fav series, after watching full vods. Just gonna point out that rimworld music hits just right moment theres some peaceful day. Anyway great editing and educational content while at it, even if you exclude mods theres a lot to digest when it comes to wilderness only survival. Defo gonna try to make my own run since this playsttle opens up so many possibilities and challenges, but thats exactly what is there to love about well delivered sandbox games.
Okay so I just finished watching this in my spare time blocks between school and work. This was beautiful. Fantastic narrative. Good editing. Great voice over. Loved it. I hope to see our hero Lara Craft return.
Man's out here playing "ALONE" in this game. Also, clothes from wood is absolutely a thing. Bark-cloth is, from what I've heard, actually fairly comfortable, if not particularly sturdy.
Alone is a pretty normal way to play. Have you tried finding a friend who owns this game or is willing to play? I've been trying to convince my sister for days.
Great video! You have a perfect voice for this sort of longer-form content, and you're really good at pacing the videos and choosing how much to show at any one point. Makes for a really enjoyable watch where I don't just throw it up on my second monitor as background noise.
I think you would stand a better chance with multi hit on, and I feel it wouldn't be too easy/unrealistic. It's entirely possible to whack two people at once with a blunt force object. love the content, keep it up.
Oh hot damn this is what people mean when they say this challenge in the community. From what I hear a few other people are going to be trying this so it's going to definitely be a fun couple of months.
The arrows probably didnt affect the bloater because you kept missing, makes sense as well with all the missing arrows.... if you move while trying to aim and shoot, it will majorly decrease the percentage that itll hit. The entire recorded sections you were showing us had you runnin everywhere and missing shots. The skill of course does help with aiming in higher levels but moving definitely makes for a 20% success rate
The whole wood-twigs-twig rope-rope-twine-clothes process isn't even that unrealistic tbh Just look at jute and other plant fibres, take a bush and turn it into clothes, tale as old as time
I did a similar challenge (same map, same restrictions) except I had the wooden wheelbarrow and fauna mods. So I would push around my infinite milk machine across the map🐮 please make a part 2! This was such a banger vid
I love the spear trap mod. I just wish you didn't take damage when you walked over them. Running over them, yes. Walking, that should be seen as you carefully stepping over the pit.
Well watched this then watched a HarvestZ vid where you and 99 other players rebuilt society. Saw your group New Fort. Loved the moments you guys were fighting the Cult Clan. Rip Sany and everyone who was lost to the Cult but also mad props for OneGreenSole being an absolute chad and continuing New Fort after Struudels death. But then looked you up after and realized I watched this already this series. Made a full circle back. Crazy series though and really fun to watch.
With the amount of work that it takes, not to mention the rather small returns, I honestly feel the log>twigs>bark>rope>threads>sheets method is fair game, especially as you can technically do it in real life, using wood fibres to very VERY slowly weave a sort of fabric.
Oh damn that horde sound 😂 will be excited to see part 2 and maybe 3 if I remember the bits of the streams I caught. This is going to be a hell of an epic ❤
id love to see a 2 or 3 man survival quest. it could even be themed something like u 2 are trekking across america to find a lost fired or something. i feel bad seeing u struggle alone honestly...
Loved the vid, loved the run, really loved your narration. The combination of some slight roleplay and a whole lot of explaining your actions? Chef's kiss. Can't wait for a part 2. Or your next run, if you're sick of this one.
Never heard of this game or this channel before, but stayed for the whole video anyway bc it was just so entertaining. Needless to say, you've earned a new subscriber and I can't wait for part two!
I like this over a bunch of other 100 day challenges like "100 days in Minecraft with only one block" or "100 days in sky block" or "100 days without jumping in Minecraft", funny how it's all Minecraft really but they're all memey and trying to farm clicks. Videos like these though where it's an actual challenge whether it's someone learning a new game from the ground up like vintage story or this challenge where it's actually difficult and not artificially so.

One thing I really liked about this challenge is that he never really gets to the point of being safe at any point. Usually I find it gets boring when a base is set up and they're just grinding away at their base with no time limit or any sort of pressure at all.
I was just thinking about trying a new challenge like this. 0 loot, all survival
Get the right mods or you'll softblock yourself a thousand ways to sunday.
You take someone's excuse in a video as fact for the real world
Top tier editing
Top tier scenario
Top tier suffering
A PZ masterpiece indeed
- So how hard was this challenge?
- He maid clothes... from wood.
Ah, man. I watched you do every last little bit of this challenge while you were streaming, and I find your determination just awe-inspiring when it comes to a challenge like this. Let's algo this up so that more people can see this monumental win.
Challenges this hard are what I strive to create and watch. You’re truly the best pz player I’ve ever seen besides amphibian
The amount of effort in this one video is crazy to me
most important knowledge from this challenge is wood == clothes
I can't believe Rick invented his own nuclear arsenal from scratch. The bomb going off at 1:44:21 is INSANE. You are crazy, Rick!
spoiler 😭 is cool though
53:13 for story’s sake I’m absolutely believing you kicked the bloater hard enough for it to let you go and jumped off it to run away
Leon Kennedy style
I am genuinely super hyped for part 2. I came into this expecting background noise but I was glued to my screen the whole time.
That rimworld music after waking up in a cold kinda summarises every start of rimworld runs
I imagine surviving in the wilderness in build 42 would be the same. Hopefully.
Also, thank you very much for showing what music you are using
Man this guy is a good story teller. He made us think his best run yet got ended abruptly, explained that he added a mod which makes us think it was after then shows him get saved by it. Bro had us hook, line, and sinker
this was one hell of an adventure! I know all the music is just from various video games, but it hits so hard and works well to build the ambiance of each part
"Out of breath, tired, and depressed. A deadly cockail."
Sounds like my day to day.
Hey Rick, a cool little fact you should know about cooking is, I think once you reach level 7 (or was it 8) you can cook rotten/stale food into edible stews.
9 minutes in and adding in that absolute banger of a minecraft OST absolutely ensured I'll be watching this to the very end, love these videos man keep it up!
The phantom zombies would be kinda like going insane irl.
Like you've been alone with zombies for so long, would you start hearing them in every gust of wind and creak of branches?
I never expected the addition of animation on top of all the other crazy work you put into these videos, I've got no words to explain how excellent all the work is
I love that you source each song in the timeline. Such a neat idea and I really appreciate it. Wish more people would do that
spending the time to make channels for every song used in the video and labeling them too is a huge W
Starting with a damn cutscene, I KNOW this shit about to be good, top shelf zomboid content right here
defo my fav series, after watching full vods.
Good choice of mods for the challenge. Really shaping up to be a badass warrior-peasant which was pretty neat to watch.
Okay so I just finished watching this in my spare time blocks between school and work. This was beautiful. Fantastic narrative. Good editing. Great voice over. Loved it. I hope to see our hero Lara Craft return.
Halo 3 ODST’s Rain is the single most GOATed underrated video game song of all time. Glad you started the stream with it. @0:24
The ost is the only good thing in that game. Its up there with tlou and bloodborne and shit. It’s definitely one of the best osts.
You are officially absolutely insane(already was)
Man's out here playing "ALONE" in this game.
@@justinkaufman495 I meant like the television show "Alone".
@Earthenfist ahhh my bad bro.
@@justinkaufman495 No problem, no problem. Just another example of why YT comments should allow italics.
@Earthenfist i thought there was a way to do it. I'll check. _italics_ put underscores on both ends of the word.
Zomboid God really threw you a bone with that jump. 😂
The Valheim meadows theme really caught me off guard.
Great Storytelling and impeccable timing with the music on your montages!
1:55:53 "It's February. The month we started on." Well then doesn't that mean you survived a year?
One must imagine Rick happy
Great video! You have a perfect voice for this sort of longer-form content, and you're really good at pacing the videos and choosing how much to show at any one point. Makes for a really enjoyable watch where I don't just throw it up on my second monitor as background noise.
my favorite PZ content I've seen, love the editing and music and your storytelling style. great stuff!
I think you would stand a better chance with multi hit on, and I feel it wouldn't be too easy/unrealistic. It's entirely possible to whack two people at once with a blunt force object. love the content, keep it up.
As soon as I heard Deference for Darkness, I knew this video was going to be a banger.
Me: "I wonder why it's 120 days instead of the usual 100."
21:12
Me: "Ah, well that's still only 110-ish"
31:53
Me: "Gotcha"
This was an og ricksdetrix challenge enjoyed it ricky
Oh hot damn this is what people mean when they say this challenge in the community. From what I hear a few other people are going to be trying this so it's going to definitely be a fun couple of months.
The arrows probably didnt affect the bloater because you kept missing, makes sense as well with all the missing arrows.... if you move while trying to aim and shoot, it will majorly decrease the percentage that itll hit. The entire recorded sections you were showing us had you runnin everywhere and missing shots.
The skill of course does help with aiming in higher levels but moving definitely makes for a 20% success rate
The whole wood-twigs-twig rope-rope-twine-clothes process isn't even that unrealistic tbh
Just look at jute and other plant fibres, take a bush and turn it into clothes, tale as old as time
Even with me having the shortest attention span, your videos keep me glued for the entire 2 hours. Great work!!
only TRUE RICKSDETRIXTERS remember 1 Year Days
I did a similar challenge (same map, same restrictions) except I had the wooden wheelbarrow and fauna mods. So I would push around my infinite milk machine across the map🐮 please make a part 2! This was such a banger vid
Rimworld soundtrack is PEAK.
Minecraft and Rimwold back to back was peak
I love the spear trap mod. I just wish you didn't take damage when you walked over them. Running over them, yes. Walking, that should be seen as you carefully stepping over the pit.
For whoever made the Jump mode 🫡🫡🫡 I Salute you
Well watched this then watched a HarvestZ vid where you and 99 other players rebuilt society.
The Rimworld music and Oblivion music made this incredible! Great choices thanks for the excellent video ^^
Thanks for doing this run. This is super insightful and was a really interesting and fun watch!
With the amount of work that it takes, not to mention the rather small returns, I honestly feel the log>twigs>bark>rope>threads>sheets method is fair game, especially as you can technically do it in real life, using wood fibres to very VERY slowly weave a sort of fabric.
Thank you so so much for including the songs in the description
please continue this saga, ricksdetrix vids are peak, and this one is my new favorite!
Oh damn that horde sound 😂 will be excited to see part 2 and maybe 3 if I remember the bits of the streams I caught. This is going to be a hell of an epic ❤
id love to see a 2 or 3 man survival quest. it could even be themed something like u 2 are trekking across america to find a lost fired or something. i feel bad seeing u struggle alone honestly...
love these vids! I have to say, using the fabulous Sonic Mania soundtrack over the zombie-killing montages is a total bop.
Loved the vid, loved the run, really loved your narration. The combination of some slight roleplay and a whole lot of explaining your actions? Chef's kiss. Can't wait for a part 2. Or your next run, if you're sick of this one.
This is great gonna watch your other vids 😊
I appreciate the halo ODST music in the beginning
That game needs more recognition
awesome, huge props for the high quality editing as well
Never heard of this game or this channel before, but stayed for the whole video anyway bc it was just so entertaining. Needless to say, you've earned a new subscriber and I can't wait for part two!
I love the way you sinc up your murder sprees with the music! It's so satisfying to watch! :D.
Ricks has now become my favorite series, I don't miss a single one 😅
I like this over a bunch of other 100 day challenges like "100 days in Minecraft with only one block" or "100 days in sky block" or "100 days without jumping in Minecraft", funny how it's all Minecraft really but they're all memey and trying to farm clicks. Videos like these though where it's an actual challenge whether it's someone learning a new game from the ground up like vintage story or this challenge where it's actually difficult and not artificially so.
Ill be honest, it feels bad to say, but I want another year of this lmao.
Sqzpz cooked for this video. i love seeing little animated bits in videos, they make the character feel more present, and alive.
The old minecraft music in the background was top teir
1 YEAR days
mmm yes, grammar
@@thraexgladiator oops
Awwww you corrected it :(
