The Hall of Fame Case for Dick Allen

- It is no exaggeration to say that former first baseman Dick Allen is the greatest clean hitter in MLB history that is not in the Hall of Fame. How does a player of his caliber slip through the cracks in Hall of Fame voting, and why exactly should he be voted in?

He’s finally in the HOF! Congratulations Mr. Allen!!!
He just got in!
Congrats to the late Richie Allen and his family for him finally being elected to the Hall of Fame. I really wished this had happened when he was alive, so he could have enjoyed it. R.I.P.
While they're at it, they need to look at Lou Whitaker as well.
He should be in the queue, but not at the front of the line.
I agree 100 percent
He and Dave Parker just got elected in 12/8/2024.
Absolute bullshit that he did not go in the same time with Alan Trammell.
@@keithcarlson7267 Trammell spent the entire 15 years on the HOF ballots and never got elected. He played one year longer than Whitaker. The Modern Day (Veteran's) Committee elected both Trammell and Jack Morris in 2017. I'm not sure where Sweet Lou was then, but he most definitely should have gone with Tram.
FINALLY! It’s LONG overdue. I think it’s shameful that Dick wasn’t inducted while he was still alive.
Welcome to Cooperstown, Dick!
Dave Parker and Dick Allen are now both Hall of Famers!
Where they should have been YEARS ago.
@@keithcarlson7267Allen anyway
He’s in the Hall. Congrats Mr. Allen.
He made it finally. Years too late but he did make it at last.
Allen has the distinct honor of making every team he played for, worse. He was a quitter with every organization he was involved with. The 2 greatest organizations in the NL, the Dodgers and Cardinals, each had him in his absolute prime and dumped him even quicker than they got him. 1 season with each team. Those 2 organizations don’t tolerate his antics no matter how good he is or was.
Yeah, the biggest reason (which you cover) is that he was not very well liked. DESPISED for a time, even. And that was still a recent memory in the 1980's, but has faded now. I'm hoping he gets in this year. I've been stumping for his case for YEARS.
"...is my video and I do what I want" 😎
Richie Allen , Rocky Colavito , Ted Kluzsewski , Ken Boyer , Jim Maloney , Maury Wills , Luis Tiant , Roger Maris , Steve Garvey , Ted Abernathy , Roy Face and Vada Pinson are not in the hof .
But Todd Helton , Scott Rolen , Harold Baines and one inning pitchers like Trevor Hoffman , Lee Smith and Mariano ' one inning ' Rivera are in .
Something is terribly wrong with this scenario !
you are so spot on really none of these hall of fames mean anything anymore
@@jimdarden4686 Richie Allen just got elected !
I think Rocky Colavito may be the best player not in the hof .
Well , except for Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson .
You just named off a bunch of guys that have no business getting in. Kluszewski,Maloney,Abernathy,Face? Get real. You have no clue
@ Klu had a good 6 year run like Koufax .
Face + Abernathy set numerous saves records in the NL in the 1960s when saves meant something .
They would sometimes pitch up to 3 innings to earn the save .
If one inning pitchers like Lee Smith , Hoffman + Rivera are in the hall , Darold Knowles , Pedro Borbon + Mike Timlin should also be in the hall .
I bet they were more successful than them , pitching their one inning , mostly the 7th inning .
At least Face , Abernathy , Knowles , Borbon + Timlin weren't choke artists like Rivera was , blowing the saves in the WS to the DBacks + the ALCS against the Red Sox .
Unless Allen is facing you, you can't tell if he's playing for the Phillies or White Sox. I totally forgot about the White Sox color scheme. Black & white suits the team better.
Dick Allen got elected…
So did Dave Parker
I never saw the man play (his career was in it's twilight when I was born) but from what my dad & uncles told me about him, and looking at his numbers in the era he played in... There is no reason he shouldn't be in the Hall.
Yeah, he hated the press and was considered an asshole by many... but It's not like be gambled on baseball.
I saw him play, both for and against my Cardinals, and echo the sentiments of your dad & uncles. Absolutely HOF.
@@LiveFromThePorcelainPalace No one thought he was an a**hole. Some disliked him bc of his independent mind. He was a sensitive guy from a living family and community. The Phillies sent him to Arkansas and it was a rude awakening. Philly fans were also brutal. Talk abou a**holes, they booed Mike Schmidt, the greatest 3rd baseman in history. Incidentally, Schmidt loved and deeply respected DA.
@@jamesnadell1998 i lived through those times richie allen was the best phillies 3rd baseman ever mike schmidt was for sure the better fielder but allen was more feared at the plate by far
Dick Allen was the right handed version of Reggie Jackson.
He made it finally. To put in perspective there are only like 340 people in hall. 270 are players. Talk about exclusive club.
It's criminal that Lou Whitaker is not in the HOF.
He should be in the queue, but not at the front of the line.
@ron88303 I think he should be near the front of the line. After all, his double play partner Alan Trammel is in the HOF.
My favorite w sox ever
Alright let’s go!
He was the reason people went to the ballpark...
W0w
And ok... what is the number on center field now ? ?
Connie mack 447 ....
And ball was still going up
And.. stop it......
Dont need the numbers.....
Watch him p l a y ! !
He won 1964 Rookie of year, not ' 63
Come on whats the hold up,"SWEET LOU" part of the Longest doulble play tandam in the history of MLB
Tramel is in why not lou
Keep him out. It's not just about statistics, it's about the overall impact on the game itself. Or at least it should be.
The knocks against him are really significant.
I do agree with you, if you just look at his statistics alone, he merits being inducted. But I truly want people inducted who bring the total package. They are, in many respects, role models that past, present, and future fans should look up to.
Now, that said, there are probably many players who should be removed, if they were to be measured against what I just described.
i can tell you did not live through the years he played and you will probably never understand what he had to go through to make it to the major leagues
Allen belongs.......but so does Luis Tiant, Dave Parker, Lou Whitaker, Tommy John, Vada Pinson, Rico Carty, Bill Buckner (regardless of one miscue), Rusty Staub, and many others. And I believe in a rather exclusionary field. There are players who should be removed from Cooperstown......
I agree. At the end of the day, what's important is your HOF, just like mine is important to me. Although the HOF gets it right most of time ... but certainly not all the time.
Carty and Buckner have no business being in Cooperstown and Staub is basically the same exact player as Harold Baines. Nope
@@BrianKendall-p4h Carty (Tony Oliva) & Buckner (Max Carey, perhaps minus the stolen bases) are good comps...
@ No,they aren't. They are literally terrible comps. You're embarrassing yourself. Stop
@@BrianKendall-p4h In your rather humble opinion. For now, we still live in a free society, and I am entitled to my own humble opinion.
The HOF baseball in particular seems to have this snobbish attitude that they are happy the way things are in their voting process. Yes you can go in no you can't its like the old country clubs that had an open racist policy of no blacks or Jews. I know that sounds harsh well they will never let Pete Rose or Joe Jackson in but they seem to be getting close for a few of the ROID BOYS in soon I think. So yeah let Dick Allen in Louis Tiant Lou Whitaker and others just as deserving
The HOF is far, far, far from an exact science. They're almost on par with the Rock n Roll HOF.
@@ron88303 I just read that Allen and Parker are in and I am crying tears of joy I am just so happy he made it in
Almost forgot....
2 inside park hr in the same game....
Look it up
He’s just not that good
Human please. A wise man speaks bc he has something to say. A fool speaks bc he has to say something.
You must be a bot. Bee-bop bee-dixx boo-bop.
How good was Parker outside of about 5 years? For about 4 to 5 years he was great, after that he was pretty good.
Guy was nothing but a troublemaker in Philly. You didn’t show him writing the word “goodbye” on the infield dirt while the game was being played in huge letters. You don’t get elected on numbers alone. They also look at how you played the game. This guy does not belong.
You need to do a bit more research fellow. They threw batteries at him in Philly, spray painted the n word on his car, put a brick through his windows. See what Mike Schmidt says about DA, or Goose Gossage. He had a big bat and radical mind. People who know baseball will contest your cliche and lazy takes on an extreme talent. Interestingly, he was a talented singer who also was a pro caliber basketball player who at 5'11 could slam dunk a basketball. No telling how well he would have done if he came up with the Giants Pirates, Braves, or Dodgers, all who were more receptive to black and Latin players. Philly was a hell hole for him.
@@jamesnadell1998 Ditto.
Sorry. WRONG
@@jimlangdon6703 You might want to dig a bit deeper. Mistakes were made on both sides, but DA was far more that your characterization. I'm being lenient here.
than why isn’t bonds and sosa in? They had the numbers but they didn’t play the game right @@BrianKendall-p4h
