I play garnet cause she was my favorite character for one of my favorite shows, steven universe, finding out that she was a bruiser just made it better she does need a couple of improvements but she is still fun

i'ma garnet main, and for me the biggest problem is her hurtboxes. she has unusually large hurt boxes which make her vulenrable to every infinite in the game and hard to break away with. tom and jerry in particular is a nightmare because any contact with their up grounded standard, even if you are attacking, will pretty much lock you into a spiral of pain. even walking into it normally. i've fought a number of tom and jerry players who after using it once started spamming the move like there's no tomorrow. not to mention the beetlejuice stun chain still works on her. she needs some sort of combo breaker tool.
I play Garnet because I love the character, I wish she had more defensive options cause she feels like a tank with even LESS defense that JASON, mainly because she can only get armor for her charged neutral. if she was changed from a brusier to a tank and given more armor on her charged moves, then maybe she'd actually stand a fighting chance against faster opponents
What i love about her Sair is that you can really delay the hits and switch directions (her jab also does this). You can throw out one punch and when someone approaches you to punish the whiff, fire the second punch. Bonus is if you only hit the second punch, the opponent bounces off the stage allowing you to combo. If both hits land this won't happen.
Garnet's down specual waas alot more useful during beta bc it would send opponents in the same path the star came from intead of now where its horizontal. That led to more angles. You could bounce opponents using unique star placements. kinda like playing pool/billards

While I do think popularity plays a big part in play rates - MultiVersus has always had a disgustingly high amount of tier list players, and not that many loyalists. 4:11 is just objectively not correct - she has well below average air speed, and pretty much the worst jump in the game. 4:44 sing is just a bad anti-projectile move overall. pretty much every clip you show of it, she's getting punished - for freezing the projectiles. not to mention its been bugged since launched, and the anti-projectile zone doesn't move with her, and its super inconsistent about what it can stop. 5:30 Garnet applies electrified also on Up-special projectile, up-special zone gives shocked buff (applies electrified to enemies), up-special clap, and air up special. 5:57 Gotta disagree on the projectile. The hitstun is incredibly low, and it does 2 damage. I certainly wouldnt call it rewarding to hit. Big agree on the clap and side-special segment :) 9:00 With all due respect, I don't think Garnet should choose where it throws... you can already cheese really hard with the move and its not gonna be healthier if u can drag the opponent 2 meters from the blast zone across the entire stage at 0 and throw them into it. As for changes I reckon she needs - bugs/hitbox fixes: sing "hitbox", tipper jab doesnt work, heavy characters can fall out of down-attack,up-tilt, up-air, clap, and air up special are all SUPER duper inconsistent at being multihits. Down-smash ONLY hits GROUNDED grounded opponents (certain DASH animations make opponents jump over it?). And she needs intangibility on her limbs until like frame 2 of the hitbox being active (i think that should be a universal change for every character) - this is what holds her back in 2s so much rn. Up-special zone is actually useless except for the explosion. It does 0 damage (used to apply electrified to enemies standing inside it) and the buff from it applies +1 damage per hit and ends INSTANTLY upon leaving the zone? (Used to be +4 and last a bit in beta & the explosion gave another STRONGER buff). Sing is wayyy too slow to apply and is wayyy too laggy to be good. its so disappointing that a character who was almost low-mid tier the majority of the beta got worse combos, worse kill power, worse damage output, worse anti-zoning, worse hurtbox...

One of the reasons I don't think ppl are willing to try new characters anymore is because of the Lock-In Character feature making it so you can't swap characters between matches. Ie: you can't experiment with different strategies.
When rank first released, I played garnet until I got to rank 1 in 2s and rank 40 overall. The amount of games I lost while also teaming up with the rank 1 steven is insane. Around 80% of my games in gold were lost because I could not move at all, every other character could spam their abilities on me while I was just staring at my screen waiting for it to end.
Give her jab more either: more range, faster startup,or less recovery. Give her down attack an eruption like Black Adam's. Faster Neutral soecial startup, and add a stack of slow on enemies for walking into it.
Garnets up special projectile gives a buff to her grounded down attack if she stands in the circle. It increases the range and damage of the ground lighting a little bit
Two words. Pillow Hands. Takes too long to kill someone at high percentages. T-Pose doesn’t kill, jab smash doesn’t kill. All of her kill options don’t have shield anymore but require a full charge to kill.
Only 2 improvement Garnet need is some correction on the normal hitboxes ( some hit go trough ennemies and do not register) and A cooldown ability when the down special is on CD.
Shes definitely better now but she will always struggle with being outmatched by a lot of characters due to her size, attack speed on her jab (and in this game having a solid jab is extremely important), a lack of iad combos and movement speed. However the variety in her moveset somewhat makes up for a few things

Her down extension doesn’t set up for anything really so if that got deleted she would be so much better as her down attack can set up for combos and/or KOs. Almost forgot Lastly make her up extension more consistent for follow ups by either increasing the hit stun or advancing her jump cancel frames.
I consider garnets down special really strong with the marker perk for causing reversals off stage and improving her recovery. If people dont respect you using side special to place marker above ledge while you're recovering you can just command grab them and throw them straight into the blast zone.

Why nobody plays garnet is mainly cause there a huge balancing problem right now you mostly only see the best character that need more endless start up and hitboxes reduced by cutting them in half but garnet she has endlag combos that kinda predictable since they have start up and not just feels instant or is just hard to deel with imo i doubt theyll buff her cause if there not gonna bring characters that need readjusting up they could just heavily nerf the other characters to where its equal
I believe a "character's popularity" plays a big factor here. Before Multiversus, i've never even heard of or knew about the existence of Garnet, and you can apply this to many people out there. For instance. take a new player coming into the game: they'll look at the roster and think "oh, i can play as BATMAN, or BUGS BUNNY", very well known and beloved characters for decades, and then look at Garnet and simply put her aside because, just like me, knows nothing about her. Is just as simple as that. Very different from someone like CAMMY, from Street Fighter, who not only was popular back in the day, but even grew on popularity during Street Fighter 5 and 6. Now don't get me wrong, i know some of you here knows, love and play her on the game, but many out there would rather have that spot been taken by some other character like THE MASK or SPACE GHOST, or even HAWKGIRL or BLACK CANARY if you prefer female ones. This is just to name a few who's popularity are way bigger than Garnet's, and some (or many) players will simply don't give a F* about her.
Yeah and also Steven universe is unbiasedly a hard show to watch for most who aren’t a kid, so kinda kills most of the multiverses fan base for it since it’s more teens and adults
Steven Universe is one of the most popular Cartoon Network shows of the 2010’s and is still popular to this very day. There are absolutely more people (both kids and adults) who recognize Garnet than you think.

What I would change on Garnet is make the together again skin free so I can use it, I think that would be a great change 👍👍👍
