*New Video: Cosmic Queries: Space and Science Part 1 - Full Episode* _In our first full-length Cosmic Queries video episode, Bill Nye the Science Guy and comic co-host Chuck Nice answer some of your most intriguing questions about space and science._ #billnyethescienceguy #cosmicqueries #startalkradio
Gentlemen, one question for some of the next shows maybe. Since we just discovered there is actually 10 times more galaxies in the universe then we were so sure about previously.... how much of the dark matter/energy is there? Additionally, it is very probable that we will discover more once James Webb goes up. Does this also change the calculations about how fast the Universe is growing? I mean... it should, right?
*Have You Seen Our First Full Video Episode of Cosmic Queries: Space and Science Part 1* In our first full-length Cosmic Queries video episode, Bill and comic co-host Chuck Nice answer some of your most intriguing questions about space and science. Could life have started on Mars and ended up on Earth? What is the value of exploring Enceladus, Titan, Europa, and the rest of our Solar System? If the speed of light is constant, why is there a light shift in the Doppler effect? Get schooled by the Science Guy on information theory, the speed of light, and time. Learn about the accuracy of carbon dating, why there is less gravity at the center of the Earth than the surface, and how the Earth’s rotation is 1/3 slower now than in prehistoric times. You’ll also find out if you can start a fire with sound or build a space elevator from the Earth to the Moon. And of course, with Bill Nye as our guest host, you can count on just a bit of discussion about climate change as well.
Thank you for listening and uploading the full episode!! Hopefully this trend continues!! Also, Bill talks like he was MADE for this lol, he does it so well!

Great to hear Bill promote the search for life and water on Mars, when at the time of writing this, we are one week into knowing that water flows intermittently on Mars. That's absolutely crazy. It's subtle, but that little quip is like a small scientific time capsule.
It's a phenomenal idea putting the show on TH-cam I have a few suggestions that the viewers will enjoy more: 1. Decorating the studio with astronomy theme. 2. If possible when explaining any astrophysics or engineering concept to show a imagine or a small scale of the concept for example putting a imigines when explaining the hurricanes Jupiter. 3. Having separate clips of each segment of the week I'll think it will be great for people who are searching on TH-cam video of how the Universe and galaxy work.
Thanks, Sami24. Unfortunately, we don't own the studio, we just use it every once in a while, so we can't really redecorate. We're looking into your second suggestion, but right now, our skeleton staff is doing the best we can with what we have. As for your 3rd comment, unless I'm misunderstanding you, we already break up previous shows into single-subject segments in our "Behind the Scenes" videos, and you can find them on our channel.
StarTalk Radio thanks for the prompt response, I just want to said that startalk is the best science podcast ever and the team is doing a amazing job in bringing science to the public
I had way too much fun watching this! Im a elementary education major with a minor in special ed and I seriously cant wait to teach math/science! that last question got me so excited haha!
BIll Nye !!! You've been such an inspiration to all of us, since we were young and watched you promote science in a language that we understood, and now to this day advocating for science funding from our government. Will you do a video and let us know about Bill Nye as a kid/adolescent, and how that shaped your future?
36:25 - _"Inertia is a property of matter..."_ Cue the theme music! _Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill!_ Apologies for the flash of nostalgia. I'd love to hear more about Hawking's new paper.
Hey GE, thanks for sponsoring this program. Do you think maybe you could get these guys some comfy chairs and maybe paint the studio with some planets and such? I mean COME ON!
YES! STARTALK RADIO HAS FINALLY POSTED FULL EPISODES ON TH-cam! I love it! Bill Nye is amazing. Maybe he can follow our dear Doctor Tyson in another season of Cosmos? :D P.S. I love you too NDT! Can't wait for next week's Cosmos after the haitus on 05/25!
7 years later!!! 18:55 I think enough time has past that 1 Chuck Nice would be exactly what you are. When I hear Chuck Nice, I immediately have a character in mind that is the embodiment of this very Intelligent, interesting and hilarious comedian/brain games road host. Had to slide back for an OG. I hope more of you meet me here
wow a full episode finally , this is good this is what we want and what we like. not like all those 1 min episodes... even if you blabber anything its fun to listen to clever guys :)
The whole in the middle of the Earth conversation reminded me of a Sci-Fi novel I read as a kid where the Moon had been colonized for hundreds of years and they had a tunnel going from one side to the other. The center of the Moon had been hollowed out in a large sphere for troops to train in microgravity. Wish I could remember that book.
29:00 Problem is... even if the day is longer to make the day warmer, the night is longer as well making nights colder. Being farther out is going to make the planet overall less warm always. The sun's rays spread out therefor less would hit per unit of area the farther out you are.
very nice. I remember on a joe Rogan podcast, Neil was talking about how they've discovered that planets can heat themselves a lot more than we used to think. Like there are planets that are far far away from their sun and they have retained much of their hear. very interesting stuff.
There is no analogy between Doppler frequency shift caused by the motion of a sound source and Doppler frequency shift caused by the motion of a light source. At 5:58 Bill Nye wrongly teaches that, just as in the case of sound waves, a light source moving away from the observer "stretches" the waves of light, that is, sends a longer wavelength to the observer (compared with the wavelength sent by a stationary source). If that were so, the speed of the waves as measured in the system of the moving source would be greater than that measured in the system of the stationary source. In other words, if an initially stationary source starts moving away from the observer with speed v, and if the wavelength gets "stretched", the speed of the waves as measured in the system of the moving source would become c'=c+v, where c is the speed of the waves as measured in the system of the stationary source. The shift from c to c'=c+v (measured in the system of the source) is a fact in the case of sound waves but not in the case of light waves, so the assumption that the moving light source "stretches" the wavelength is incorrect. When a light wource starts moving away from the observer, it thereby starts sending SLOWER LIGHT to the observer (as predicted by Newton's emission theory of light), NOT LONGER WAVELENGTH. On close inspection, Doppler effect proves fatal for Einstein's relativity.
There is an epiphany of understanding I've come to recently regarding the red/blue shift of light, and the apparent contradiction that light emitted from an object in the direction of that object's travel does not get a speed boost. I am sure it is not new to those learned in the subject, but I found that as a lay man it made things more intuitive. Simply put, see urself as the moving object, and the source of light as stationary. If u move towards a stationary object emitting light then the *apparent* frequency of the light wave will be higher just like street lights go by faster as the speed of ur car increases. I just wish it had been explained to me like that years ago, I would have had fewer embarrassing arguments, lol
lol the long tree question, I think it came from the two rods communication method thought to be faster than light, where the message was supposed to be communicated by the propagation speed of one rod moving over the other, so you don't need to 'see' the other end of the rod (branches w the tree) but you would measure the distance of the rods at your end and demodulate your message from that.

Thats great !
Bill Nye has always been an amazing speaker. He was directly responsible for making me love science as a kid, and to continue to question everything.
Bill Nye. Class act, and such a pro. Tremendous!
More of this please! I listen to the pod cast but I like watching them even more!
im so happy that you guys finally put a full episode on you tube i think i might cry. absolutely love this!

Thanks for making me smarter everyday. You guys at Startalk ROCK!
I am loving this, I used to watch Bill Nye on his science show when I was a kid. It made me want to pursue a career in science.
Bill Nye is my favorite Science Guy
More and Longer. Brilliant Fun.
Great to hear Bill promote the search for life and water on Mars, when at the time of writing this, we are one week into knowing that water flows intermittently on Mars. That's absolutely crazy. It's subtle, but that little quip is like a small scientific time capsule.
This was amazing! Thank you!

Good
brilliant show
YESSS! Full episodes! They listen they really listen!
I must say these two together were great. Love Bill almost as much as Neil. lol

Bill Nye is a bad-ass. Keep it up man!
Bill is awesome.
Bill Nye and Tyson should do this show together. I would pay to watch it.
We need to do something about the StarTalk budget. Those chairs look awfully uncomfortable.
ProYagu You know, no guest, co-host, guest host or host has ever commented on that. Now, a roomier studio wouldn't be a bad thing...
StarTalk Season 3!
StarTalk Radio I forgot I even commented this... xD
@@JacobHayden911 hi

THE MAN DOES NOT CONTROL WHAT MAKES THE EARTH GO AROUND THE SUN. Simply epic.
This is awesome.
Please, more of these full episodes or longer clips!
Bill is great at this. I really love the full segments! I'd like to see a Neil and Bill together conversation when you guys could arrange schedules!
I totally agree!

Man, what a showman.
Wow this was great!
"chuck nice... He'll cut you" lol
Please keep making full episodes, and, Ultraman FTW!
Ultra-man Rant. Nice! I have vague memories of this show.
I’m not a “kid” and yet I enjoy this program. Don’t assume your audience is kid-like.
This was a great episode, Chuck is sooooo much a better co-host than the wanna be comic they have now. Bill as usual is great.
How nice and mature to see the harmony between black and white . Wow .
The camera angles make it interesting!
Did General Electric pay for the call bell? Great segment, I love that it's out there, but wondering why it needs to additional sponsor.
Craig, we are always looking for sponsors. Our NSF funding ended, and now we're on our own!
StarTalk Radio good to know, sorry the NSF funding ran out.
StarTalk Radio So sorry to hear that the funding has dried up. This is a show that needs to keep going!
