Flying Serene Air A330 - The Reality of Aviation in Pakistan

  • I tried out Pakistan’s private airline Serene Air A330 from Islamabad to Karachi in Serene Plus (Business Class). The A330-200 has a proper 24 lie-flat seat in business class and 275 economy class.
Serene Air A330 is currently the only wide-body airplane serving the domestic sector in Pakistan. During the flight, a snack was served on Serene Air in both economy and business class. I enjoyed the Malai Boti snack in Business Class.
Aviation in Pakistan has huge potential due to the population but the reality is somewhat different. The airfares remain high and few can afford to fly. Lot of aggressive scheduling causes frequent delays. The country’s domestic market performs poorly in terms of available domestic seats divided by the population. More details are in my video. - Pakistan has about 0.03 seats per person, in comparison with India (0.16), Nepal (0.11) and Bangladesh (0.04).
To date, the Pakistani aviation sector has been dealing with a large set of specific challenges: Political instability, security situations, inadequate infrastructure, poor safety culture, inconsistency in state policy, inconsistent tax laws, weak economic growth, poor access to investments and funds, lack of structural reforms and unsupportive economic policies. The Pakistani aviation sector can be described as ‘the large sleeping giant‘, which needs to wake up from the pandemic effects and immediately grab opportunities for a better future.

This is my last video from my trip in December to Pakistan. A friend of mine (First Officer) invited me on his Serene Air A330 flight to Karachi in Business Class. Serene Air A330 has a decent business class product, more than adequate on the 1.5 hour flight. Their B737-800 however has a mono-economy class. Aviation in Pakistan has large potential but the reality is somewhat different. The airfare remains high and few can afford to fly. Lot of aggressive scheduling causes frequent delays. The country’s domestic market performs poorly in terms of available domestic seats divided by the population. More details are in my video.

Thanks for highlighting aviation in Pakistan sam, insha'Allah with videos like these investments will come especially in flights to Skardu, Swat and many more destinations in Pakistan.
Also the tickets used to be cheap but the Imran khan government had to put high taxes on everything including the Flight tickets due to recent IMF restrictions.
Would love to see you in other areas of Pakistan including the PAF Karachi aviation meauseum.
Huge respect and love from Pakistan man thanks for visiting hope to see you again 🇵🇰♥️🇵🇰♥️🇵🇰

Yeah I think I understand what the captain was explaining regarding the landing of the A330-200. It's design is what makes it easy to land. It's at an angle where the back is up higher than the front allowing the pilots to afford positioning it at a steep angle for landing. It's nearly impossible to scrape the aft section as the aircraft is landing. Very sharp. Airbus knows what they're doing.

It is unbelievable that the USA and Western European airlines still get away with such a poor first / business class service and seat on mid haul routes. The only exception is what American is now running on the JFK - LAX routes operating the 321T. These recent videos make me want to visit Pakistan

Because most who seek more rooms or luxury or privacy or their own schedule as well all of them fly on private jets that is why you see cramped first class with commercial airlines. Regardless, this appear to be a pre-paid propaganda video. For attempt to improve domestic travel in Pakistan by government of Pakistan: good for them.

For the comment at 06:10 where you wish there are fully flat domestic service in US and Canada, yes, Air Canada does fly its 333, 77L, 77W and 789 regularly on domestic routes, especially YYZ-YVR. Westjet also has 789 on some domestic flights such as YYZ-YYC. So you do get fully flat widebody business class in domestic flights in Canada.

Agree that Pakistani owned airlines are not very big. Domestically, Pakistan is very well connected with Modern Highways (called Motoways there) and a robust train network. So a country of size of Texas and Oklahoma does not need 100+ aircraft for domestic use at all. However, both Major and even far off cities have robust air traffic. For International Travel, both Pakistani and International carriers have a fairly busy schedule. Loved Sam's coverage of Skardu and Gilgit routes. It was awesome

Sam, apart from Karachi all other major cities are 2-3 hours drive away from each other and are linked with motorways so people do not need to fly to those cities they drive, and from all these cities people related to business and other routine works in Karachi fly to there.
