  • Plowing snow with my 2016 Polaris Ranger 570 midsize. Some people might say you have to get a 900 or 1,000 to plow the deep stuff but the 570 handled it just fine. Plowing in 4 wheel drive and low gear.

    A little plowing hint from an old timer, in N'Idaho, when you lift your plow at the end of a push, back up just a smidge, before you lift it, that will take the weight of the snow off your winch cable, and you'll have less breakage...

    • @toddyarnell3161

      From another old timer just raise the blade while still moving you can pile it up high then

    I have this exact same machine and plow, ( I eventually put an entire polaris cab and heat in it) I discovered maxxis bighorn tires worked fantastic in new England snow, with long steep driveway. Lots of heavy wet snow past couple years. Got stuck with stock tires a couple of times, got stuck alot with Sedona ripsaw tires, (which surprised me). (Also a 1-1/2" lift helped.)

    Get 5 feet of 6-8" farm conveyer belt and add it to the top of the plow blade. Its a game changer. way less snow coming over the top. conveyer belt is available at the farm and fleet stores by the foot.

    I have a 2017 570 Midsize and love it. I put a few hundred pounds of sand in the bed and plow. Have pushed up to 24 inches. Do you get frustrated with the buttons on the shifter when not plowing?

    • @HometownAcres
      @HometownAcres  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Todd thanks for the comment. I’ve gotten used to the buttons being there and it doesn’t bother me but anytime I let somebody else drive it they always reel the winch in or out when shifting from H to L to Reverse. Just takes some getting used to pushing on the shifter from the bottom rather than the top.
      This was the first video I ever uploaded and it’s pretty crappy quality. I shot it on my iPhone haha. I have since gotten a better camera so my more recent videos with the ranger are a little better. Thanks for watching!

    With the windshield, I know the cab isn't heated but does the snow and snow dust stick or melt on the windshield making it tough to see through without a wiper?

    • @HometownAcres
      @HometownAcres  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It honestly depends on the temperature. If it is less than 28 degrees out it usually just blows right off but if it’s a heavy wet snow it’ll stick and you can just reach around with a glove and wipe it off. It’s not that big of a deal

    Thanks for making the video I'm actually doing my research now as well I believe that's the model I'm going to get from what I can tell the 570 should be enough horsepower for your average Farm chores just trying to decide now if it's necessary to get with or without the electric power steering, any suggestions ?

    • @HometownAcres
      @HometownAcres  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So when it comes to power steering I think the biggest difference is you will be forced to always drive with 2 hands. Most of the time it’s not that big of a deal but I do find times where I need one hand on the wheel and 1 hand on something else and turning is very hard with one hand. If your budget allows for power steering I would get it. I do wish I had it probably 30-40% of the time

      A plow puts a lot of weight out front. If you are just using your machine for trail running and light work, you can get away with no power steering. You will definitely want it for plow work. Many people end up selling their first machines with no power steering, just to upgrade to one that does. Not a tragedy if you don’t have it, but really nice feature when you do.

    I'm looking at purchasing a Ranger 570 midsize, and your video was very helpful. Could you please tell me if yours has the power steering or not? There is quite a bit of price difference between the base model 570 and the one with the EPS, which for 2021 is called the 570 Premium. If I can get by without the power steering it would save me a considerable sum. Thank you.

    • @HometownAcres
      @HometownAcres  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do a good bit of trail riding as well. It has more than enough power. I’ve had 3 full grown men in it on snow covered trails going up steep hills. No problem at all. And you should always plow snow in low gear. You will wear out your belt if you plow in high gear. They actually say if you are under 10 mph you should be in low gear. Unless I’m on the driveway, field or road I’m usually in low gear to try to lengthen the life of the cvt belt
