- It's a project that could generate a lot of money in Arizona and, according to some, could bring new life to a town that was once in Arizona's mining country. However, religious and environmental worries meant the project is now mired in a court battle. FOX 10's Lauren Clark has more on the Oak Flat mine proposal.

The problem is the legislators, both State and National. I worked on this mining project and others for 10 years; I gave up because of the legislators--Arizona and National. First, a foreign mining company does not pay Federal or State taxes. (I checked Resolution's annual report for their operation north of the Great Salt Lake, in Utah.)
Further, In AZ there is a law on the books since 1980's that mining companies (even foreign ones with terrible environmental histories)--can use all the water they want, anywhere they want. The same thing was happening near where I lived in Green Valley at the Rosemont mine, also in the National Forest. How can there not be a be a big pit because the mined copper will be mixed with mud and the mud will be will be taken elsewhere to take the copper out. There will be a hole down to 7,000 feet. So the surrounding trees of the forest will not have groundwater support for its deep roots. Third, the U.S. Congress got in involved--but not to save the National Forest. U.S. Senator put an earmark on the mining project at midnight on a "must pass" the "must pass" Defense Bill. He got a $7,500 contribution from Resolution Copper. (Source "Open Secrets."
Other than the water i dont get what the issue us here, they are way down in the earth.
I live in the area and these people need the economy. It would be good for everyone, people will make money and have purpose.
Yes true but it will hurt the land and if we dont start saving some, wont be none left for the future.Old growth trees and forest should never be touched, find it elsewhere.
Other than the water?
Water is life ❤
Its all about money for Superior. SAVE OAK FLAT
F oak flats. It was never scared until they found copper. It's all about money. We should have never gave them any land in this state.
Debb haaland better fight for ous Apaches in Congress
I am from Globe Arizona , closer to San Carlos about 15 miles from this site. Born and raised here. Have spent MANY days at Oak flats and have seen very few Apaches in this area at any time of the year and now it is sacred to them!! I CALL B.S.
I am from San Carlos. Those people are idiots. They are those that didn’t grow up on the Rez but all of a sudden become traditional. I honest feel embarrassed by them . They make us look bad.
Bs 😂😂 til this day Apaches are still having the coming of age ceremonies at Oak Flats
WHAT MONEY I DON'T SEE IT
Who watched the bloomberg video from 2016 then came here to see whatever happened?
There is unlimited copper and every other resource we could want in the asteroid belt. It’s time to start mining space and make earth a nature preserve.
1/3 of the worlds copper is in use, 1/3 is still in the ground, 1/3 is in landfills. Recycling is essential for our planets survival.
🌈 gathering is what we need ❤
do yk when the latest court decision will be
Actually, there are now six Cs of the Arizona economy - chips as in computer chips.
EARTH FIRST ! ! ! we'll mine the other planets later..
On December 5, 2023 Bryan Seppala came to Apache Junction city council meeting and spoke. It was not an open meeting so I waited outside the door for him to ask questions. I asked about money's he was giving Apache Junction, scholarship and money to the nonprofits. I asked if money always smoothed things over for them and his answer was sometimes. I asked about the fact that he said they were over 7,000 feet and that I guess that sounds better than 1.3 miles. I talked to him about the water that keeps filling the mine shaft and was told after treating the water some would be sent down to Picket Post. I stated that most wells in Arizona are at about 1,000 feet and if they are pumping water from down 1.3 miles in a deep aquifer and dumping it the wells at a 1,000 feet would go dry. The desert doesn't have enough water as is and to poison a deep aquifer and then just dump this poison water is wrong. We need to think about the end result of what they are doing before it is to late to fix the problem. It is going to take California 20 years to fix their mistake and life's were lost.
i think non christians should start using eminent domain to take church properties that taxes are not paid on fore that sake of increasing town taxes for kids sports and actual REAL important things.
Copper is a national security interest mineral .
Apache will just have to find another place … welcome to life where things don’t always go the exact way we want .
Old growth forest should never be touched for any reason.Find resources elsewhere.
Idiot reason
watching this cause of my 7th envi science class lol
what sacred site?
It was the dwelling place of the San Carlos Apaches for centuries--there are still stones lining their gardens and dwellings in cliffs there--of course burial grounds of centuries of their ancestors. They were moved out of the special land with even a live stream and oaks that had acorns that could be eaten right off the huge towering trees by the U.S. Gov because they wanted the beautiful place for the National Forest and a campground. The Apaches were moved up to the desert west of Globe, 24 miles away. Even today, they go to Oak Flat for certain ceremonies and prayers for their ancestors and certain ceremonies for the girls when they reach puberty.
so many sacred sites, in fact I can see lots of them in the video. Mine it. now...
So Then charisians won't mind us use eminent domain to take church property they dont pay taxes on.
Kick the land destroying foreign mining invader companies out of Arizona.
Mine it. Start today.
Stop messin’ with the native’s land.
Not everyone will be happy with the outcome, whichever outcome it is. I own property not far from this area and I say mine it and put people to work, if you actually think you can find a few in this lazy world of data seekers
I think you need to do more research, this new project will employ 42 people after it is fired up to run and most will be remote jobs, So before you jump on this know your facts about this project There have been so much Corruption involved in this issue it isn't very pleasant to say the least
Mine mine mine the country needs it.
Sorry, but if you don't make sizeable political campaign contributions, you have almost no power. Ugly, but that's the way you get things done.
Time to go wind power. Minerals are were the buried are, in the ground . Lol
Oh ya I forgot wind mills don't have copper in them
@@davidrabago7129 copper not from Superior, don't care about copper coming from other places, duh
The White Man no Comment!
🏹🏹🏹🪶🪶🪶
I like her…she makes sense. Mine it.
