    Robin Soderling had a great forehand and he uses a huge backswing!

    that tip made all the difference on my forehand. it really works.. so for those who make fun of nick this is actually a very useful tip.

      yes, but without doing the flip, how do you get there. Nick is missing the Flip.

    Usually when someone is talking about thi butt of the racket being forward, it has nothing to do with controlling the back swing and that's why it never made sense to me, because everyone automatically gets into that position. It's not something that needs to be taught , but this is the first time I've seen the flashlight analogy used as a way to control the size of the back swing and it actually makes sense in this context.

    Ok, where's Andre's "flashlight"???
    Facing the ground because like so many on the Pro tour the formula for forehands involves a set position having a racquet head up with a loop not a straight backswing!!
    Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Serena etc...
    All have the buttcap/flashlight facing the ground due to their racquet head up preparation which when done properly with the loop does eventually put the buttcap/flashlight facing forward towards the net.
    No offense to Nick and Pat but To teach a straight backswing in this day and age is to me a bit dated and inefficient!
    I like proper racquet head up for set position with a loop with top racquet head speed acceleration being generated from the legs!!

      this is for beginner... not for pro level... that has to be develop.. but the concept of it is right but of course you can't hit like pro this way which is obviously doesn't come cheap..... if they expose everyone on video..then probably everyone would be hitting like pro.. hahaha youtube tennis video is all for beginner...

  • @swalterstennis

    Wow, in 2012 he’s teaching an open faced straight back backswing? It’s not 1975.

      lol what do you mean? Flat hitters is so much better than ATP forehands in my opinion, it's why Robin Soderling almost murdered Nadal when he played against him, Nadal didn't have time to play his usual playstyle. I played ATP forehands basically all my life now, and I am kinda bummed out that I can't hit a nice flat forehand without it going into the stratosphere

    • @swalterstennis
      @swalterstennis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What? You like Soderling’s flat forehand? Why do you think good/college/pro players use topspin? Because you can hit it HARD AND CONSTANTLY get it in. Nadal’s average forehand has a tremendous amount of topspin, like 3500 rpm. Federer’s is like 3000 rpm. It’s the only way to be consistent and take a big swing from the baseline. How many major championships does Soderling have? How many does Nadal have? Flat serves don’t go in more than half the time by even pros. That’s why good players don’t hit flat serves either. Topspin. It’s how to win points, games, sets, matches and tournaments.

      @@henrik1743soderlings forehand had a huge backswing! It’s exactly opposite of what Nick teaches in this video.

    Maybe Nick should take a look at Fed, Joker, and Nadals' flashlights, they're doing exactly what Nick and his buddy say NOT to do! 😨

  • @tommaximus1849
    @tommaximus1849 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Maybe it worked back then, it's a wrong technique, it's correct if you want to hit late, because holding that so called flashed light as long as possible is going to make your contact with the ball late.

      Dude, check Federer's forehand in slow motion. This is EXACTLY what fed do. Nick doesn't talk about the whole swing , follow-through etc. its just a piece of all motion.
